Re: Trailer sway

Rick, you're playing with fire.? If your tires are wearing on the outside edges, barring any axle misalignment, your tire pressure is too low.? That could cause heat induced tread separation and a blowout, which can rip out the floor of your trailer.?
?
I've seen trailer tire inflation charts that say with a 2500 lb trailer, ST175/80R13 tires, 300 lbs tongue weight, I could inflate my tires to 35 PSI.? But I would never ever inflate my tires that low.? A higher inflation pressure, as long as its below the max rating, has a lower instance of blowouts. When I had my trailer tire blowout, the cop that stopped to see if I was OK told me that its always the trailer tires that blow.? Never the car tires. Trailer tires are just not that good.? They need all the help they can get to avoid blowouts.
?
Also, in the original post, the OP said he was already at the max 50 psi, so can't inflate further.

Ummm.....? the easy fix here is to just inflate the tire a little more.?? You might run the tires over a puddle of water and then immediately over a piece of cardboard and it might just show that the center of the tire is not inflated enough to have good contact with the road.? Or driving through mud will show it even better if the center of the tire print is raised at all.? Though it only takes a very small amount of pressure difference in the tire to put more pressure on the edges or the middle

As a disclosure I have Carlyses on my current trailer and they are also wearing on the outer edges.?? But I run them 15lbs light so the trailer doesn't bounce as much and they are 2 ratings above the recommended "B" rating. ?
