Aliner wind bar weakness

I made the mistake of using the door side wind bar on my ¡®22 Classic as a mounting point for a small triangular canopy. The wind bar mount pulled out of the roof when it got windy. The top of the bar has a pivot joint with a 1/2¡± bolt that threads into a 3/8¡± thick plate. Very secure looking. The problem is that plate is secured by 4 sheet metal screws to the 1/16¡± thick roof frame. The screws pulled out of the frame. I replaced the screws with 3/16¡± diameter stainless pop rivets. They should be much stronger than the sheet metal screws. Aliner uses pop rivets all over the camper, why would they not use them here? I plan to change out the other side when I move the trailer out of its storage spot.
