Re: Solar charger recommendations

Responding to various comments:

I've used the Scotch permanent outdoor mounting tape to mount various things, but I hesitate to use that stuff, because if you ever need to remove it, you risk delaminating your roof or wall pulling it off.? That stuff sticks like crazy.. They are not kidding.when they say permanent.

Be careful if you use 3M 5200.? Thats also a "permanent" adhesive, and it will definitely delaminate your roof if you just try and pull it off.? You have to use one of the 5200 solvents to remove it, and its slow going.? 5200 is also not UV resistent at all.? If its in the sun, it deteriotes pretty quick.? I used some of that on roof edge fillets, and it cracked and peeled in 3 years on a garage stored trailer.

My 100 watt Renogy flexible plastic panel fluttered fairly vigorously when I first mounted it.? I had to put 3 cross pieces under it to fix that.? Check your mount before you go on a long trip.? One of ironies of flexible panels is you shouldn't flex them, because that can crack the internal wires.

The typically recommended minimum voltage to let your lead acid battery down to before recharging is 12.0 volts. If you limit yourself to 12.2 you won't get much power. But realistically it's sort of a pay to play situation.? If you don't discharge you battery much it will last longer, but if you run your furnace and don't freeze your butt off, you might still be happier even if you have to replace your battery sooner. AGMs and golf cart batteries can also be discharged more than regular 12v lead acid batteries.? Look up your battery and see what the trade offs are.?
Also recharge your battery every day.? That definitely makes it last longer.? That's where permanently mounted solar comes in real handy.
