Re: calling on the Doctor, Natari, Van Helsing

?
"One human is enough to fully saciate me as you put it. A good meal for you should be its equivalent or more fittingly enough food to keep you satisfied all day. Many vampires as you are likely aware live in more isolated areas where the pickings are thin so they do not...eat as well. The snack here and there without killing a person but never get full. IT keeps the villagers from suspecting and hunting them down and they don't kill off all the food so I suppose it works. I've always been a city girl. I like the big places and busy life and in such there are always enough lives to keep us fed without it being too obvious. If I am here or if I am not many people are dying here in London daily. From murder of their own, poor nutrition, accidents at work, machines blowing up."
?
She smiled at that then shaking her head explained, "It is just this machine thing is so new for me and I have lived centuries without such. You are older for humans so the factories, the industrial age as they call this, is new for you as well, but I have seen more time without it so it is a bit awe inspiring. I heard some even burn themselves to death in the bath because the water heaters blow or something."
?
She smiled when he recopied his notes. "Thank you for that. I appreciate it."
?
Running her hands up her arms she couldn't help but shiver remembering the chains Oliver had bound her in burning her skin. bastard.
?
"Many would hunt you down and kill you were they to discover where you live...For hunting vampires no matter your reasons so it is good that you are careful."
?
Oliver wouldn't bother but many would. Oliver believed he was teaching her self defense, and Helsing had been kind enough to put a healing salve on her wounds rather than taking her out while she was weak. Her coming to him had mainly been to annoy Oliver but it was admittedly a stupid move.

Re: The exchanging of unbelievable information, Henry, Rena, Leti, Oliver

?
"I ain't anti social," Leti protested loudly.
?
"You never make any sense," She chastised Henry with a frown and shake of her head.
?
?
"Fears," Oliver snorted, shaking his head at Henry.
?
"You must be mad," he proclaimed. Leti nodded sagely.
?
It was amusing to Oliver, the shock of it all. The revelations made by these humans, extraordinary as they were then one of them believing HE or any vampire would actually use their skills in service to them. Even if this doctor' would pay him, he wasn't interested.
?
?
"Precisely who's mind do you want tampered with," he asked, curious for all of that.
?
?
?
"Simply because you do not need to drink blood and you can walk in the sunlight doesn't make you better than a vampire,Oliver chuckled with another incredulous shake of his head.
?
"From my understanding you had no idea your potion would make you immortal. That was an accident and you would only be aware now because your lady here has told you."
?
?
Rena, for her part, wasn't truly focused on the conversation, her mind instead on Caligari so she was quick to answer Henry's question.
?
"He's hard to kill because somehow he can body hop. I have no idea how anyone can do that."
?
"He's got one of both of us, then," Oliver told Henry, indicating clearly that he couldn't body hop either.
?
"So does this make him the most superior of beings, then," he asked, thin lips twisting up into a rare smile of amusement.
?
Was he teasing someone? When was the last time he'd done that? Several centuries.Perhaps when he was mortal.

"Very recently actually. Right after I realized how you useful you are to me. For your ability to ensnare the mind. For your physical strength. And for your anti?social charm so reminiscent of Leticia's here. Not everybody would be automatically accepted to be my body guard, but you certainly qualify, my dear. Do not let your fears and inadequacies stand in the way, by the way. You have passed the test. You proved yourself. I accept you now. Yes, it is true?as unbelievable as it may be.?And you are very welcome, I know you will thank me later," Henry smugly reassured the vampire.
?
"Of course I consider it to be superior. I get to be my true self. My reflexes are faster. My instincts are sharper. My acuity and physical prowess are enhanced. And my mind is in the right place, implying it is uninhibited by?irrelevant considerations that plague lesser minds. It is similar to being a vampire,?only better. Vampires are primitive killers with some limitations. I am equally good at killing, and I?am not going to be caught sucking blood. And besides, some vampiric lore, though widely disbelieved in this rational age, is at least known. My?attributes and weaknesses are too individual to ever have been recorded. At least as far as I know.?You are rare, but still fairly common, you follow the same pattern as others of your kind. I am unique. There are none like me, not mentally, nor physically, with Rena here being the only exception I am hitherto aware of. I am unique, I am special, I am indeed a superior being. Far above ordinary humans, a predator in my own right.
?
It does seem regrettably like I have some limitations though, so I will accept your services. Rena?my darling, when you say that Caligari is not?easy to kill, let me preface my words with a qualification that I am not averse to a?slow methodical killing any more than Leticia here is. And yet, how shall we proceed with this. What makes this kill difficult and how can the difficulty be overcome?" Henry wondered, his friendly, wicked, light hearted expression turning into that of intense determination. ????

Re: calling on the Doctor, Natari, Van Helsing

Helsing gave her a questioning look, when she told him not to put her name in his notes. What?? Oh, he looked considering, then gave a slight frown, rather annoyed with himself for his oversight. Yes I, suppose it could, get you killed if it fell into the wrong hands. Very well, he quickly made the necessary changes, then, wanting to make sure that everything was still kosher, he took new fresh parchment, and quickly copied the notes with surprising efficiency, being careful to leave out Natari’s name, in favor of, she, or, my guest, or some such other more ambiguous phrase. ? I’m afraid I got so carried away with listening to what you were saying and making notes on it, that I forgot to omit your name, so I am glad you reminded me, thank you for that. ?thank you also for treating it rather lightly than what you could have done, for laughing at it, rather than being severe in your reprimand. ?he would await any response she might have, before moving on to the next subject and replying.

He chuckled when she made her remark about mortals, but his chuckle?rang with a hollow, rather sad note. Yes, unfortunately I fear we humans can be rather short sighted at times, more often than not; I think we go too much on appearance, I have to say, we, because not so long ago I, was much the same way. ?I would love to find a way to help those humans who are willing, to understand that your plight??is neither to be completely feared, nor completely idealized and romanticized. I believe either extreme can be a mistake, caution is perhaps the best stance to assume in such matters, taking the time to learn about things, that is, if one has the luxury of obtaining such an opportunity.

He looked genuinely surprised when she told him she did not miss much about being mortal. He nodded with understanding when she spoke of missing the sun.

That would be an inconvenience indeed, he admitted, I am myself happen to very much enjoy seeing the sun, being out in it and such, so I fear I would make a terrible vampire. He chuckled at his own quip.

He looked even more surprised when she said that she did not miss food.

Truly? But his eyes came alive with understanding when she mentioned women who were with child saying that food did not smell good. Yes, his tone was full of consideration and amazement. Yes I think I can see what you’re saying. The body undergoes a physical change, so that food, the smell and sight???of it, is not as appetizing.

His expression then became one of sudden curiosity, as a question came to him, one which he had not before considered. Tell me, if you will, how many victims does it take to satiate you in an evenings time? ?Is it similar to the hunger of mortals, who often need different amounts of food to fill them? Is there a type of human you favor the most? Or is it just that, blood is blood?

Re: calling on the Doctor, Natari, Van Helsing

?
"Don't put my name in that," Natari told the doctor with a laugh, gesturing to his notes.
?
"It could get me killed."
?
Though she laughed she spoke the truth.
?
?
At the rest of his words her face became serious.
"Yes some would fear me and what amuses me about that is their own lot, humans, will kill them too. Those simply don't look like predators in many cases until it's too late. There are also those humans who romanticize us, though. They are in their way as extreme as the ones who fear those of us that they don't need to fear. Those sorts of humans tend to believe it's all pretty rather than predatory, and they either become rather dangerous if someone does turn them or they regret their choices later."
?
?
?
"I think those who regret their choice would be glad to try your fake blood if such ever exists," she concluded with a chuckle.
?
"As for what I miss about being mortal, to be honest not much though I am sure others would give you different answers. The sun is a thing I miss and the inconvenience of having to sleep through the day or die. It really makes sure one gets enough sleep, though," she added with a light chuckle.
?
?
"I feel there are far more benefits to vampirism. Immortality, strength, speed, immortality," she chuckled again.
?
"One would think I should miss food but due to the changes our body undergoes, food doesn't even smell good and so it isn't tempting. The smell of blood and the taste of it makes me hungry now. I once heard women with child speaking of food smelling badly. This is because they are undergoing a physical change and vampires certainly have."
?
As she sat in the chair, she idly watched him at his notes, still feeling a bit surreal for being there.

"When did we decide I am to be your body guard? I decline by the by," Oliver said dryly.
?
?
"No killing Caligari isn't that simple sadly," Rena said."You said he is a body hopper, Henry, so he'll just go get himself another, though we aren't exactly sure what procedures if any are necessary for that or how long it takes him to do so."
?
"Those are possible,"Oliver murmured the question already obviously knowing the answer. "That's a new one."
?
Many in one night, how astounding.
?
"Your potion regresses you and you consider this superior," he asked Henry, attention returning to the man's explanation of how his potion worked.

Leti was silent and thoughtful, attentively taking every word of the conversation in.

"That is a pity, that nobody knows the secret. I like understanding the origins of a species. It helps understand its point better.
?
It is exactly that, the blood in question.?The vampire blood must contain something. I just cannot figure out what it could be to alter so the most basic physiological structures.?
?
My potion has a similar affect, Though on a more sophisticated level, I dare venture. Rest assured, your services as my body guard will not be outright rejected. What I mean by a higher level is not who the greatest brawler is, but who has the best mental development. That?would be me, after I consume the potion, and my Lady here, due to her own?remarkable capacity you have been made privy to.
?
My potion is of course based on the subtlest understanding of human nature. A move backwards in time. towards an essential nature currently lost to the majority of the so called humans.
?
Not that I expect you to appreciate the higher nature of my quest. As dearest Leticia here has informed you,?you and her share this most basic of vulgarities, that a superior being like me must learn to tolerate in a fellow creature. This coarseness, the brutality of spirit, so limiting as it is useful at other times," Henry jovially complained, uncomfortable with the whole Caligari issue for the?moment.
?
He knew he would get comfortable, as soon as he laid his hands on the man who?so?frustrated his gentlest of ladies.?
?
"A?most worthy?intention that, I am reminded once again why I require the assistance of somewhat lower creatures like yourself and Leticia. Kill him if you must, but better yet, question him if you may. Unless my lady objects of course, for she knows more about the miscreant than I ever could.
?
Only something tells me that more thorough information may present the solution to disposing of the said enemy," Henry Hyde mused, utterly abandoning his whimsical attempt at a light hearted conversation of only seconds earlier.?????

Re: calling on the Doctor, Natari, Van Helsing

As??Natari spoke, the doctor took writing implements, and made notes of the conversation, his questions, her answers, and the like. He nodded when she spoke of not quite having it in her to enjoy the hunt as others did. ?he gave her a soft smile of understanding.

What I am hearing, and am given to understand is, that you very much value your life, yet not so much as to become one of those overly eager predators that you mentioned. ?You are not at all the evil monster that so many humans would suppose you’re kind to be, yet you have the desire and ability for self-preservation, which is normal. I suspect that many humans are afraid of you, and kill your kind when they can, because they suppose that if they don’t, they will be killed first, and they do not have the opportunity that I now have, to sit down and talk with you, get to know you and find out the way you truly are.

He nodded again with understanding, I am glad to hear you say that you would at least consider trying manufactured blood, if such a thing were?possible, and if others of your kind survived; as with most humans, you do not wish to be the first to try it, but unfortunately, someone…, Must be the first to establish the precedent, ?and see that indeed it works. But again, we will deal with that if, and as it arises.

What I want to ask you now, he continued, is, what if anything, do you miss the most about being human? What do you suppose that others of your kind would miss, if in fact there are others who miss being human?

He quickly took another piece of parchment and a fresh quill from his desk, and prepared to continue writing.

Re: calling on the Doctor, Natari, Van Helsing

?
"Had I been asked, as a girl, if I wanted to kill homeless people I"d say no. Had I been asked as a girl if homeless people could die instead of me had I a reason to choose, I"d have said yes but perhaps felt badly about it. Had I been asked if I'd rather die than sate my hunger on the worst of society I suppose I'd have made the choice I did. But even so once under the change, with the heightened senses, and hunger, the choice is easier. Just as you said I remained myself so chose homeless over anyone I could grab. And some do enjoy killing sadly, but those people are over eager predators. There is something that comes out in a person if they have potions and it shows the evil person. I don't believe innocent people become evil vampires, though," she said.
?
"I'm not sure if I believe suck manufactured blood is possible, but if you or someone else were to come up with such a formula, I would consider it after many others of my kind had tried it for a year or so and survived."
?
She chuckled.
?
Obviously this meant she valued her life above sparing that of others she deemed worthy of death, but not so much that she'd not avoid it if possible.
?
"Some enjoy the hunt and perhaps that is natural but I never had it in me."

Re: The exchanging of unbelievable information, Henry, Rena, Leti, Oliver

?
"I never said drinking blood made one a vampire,"Oliver said with a frown.
"I said drinking the blood of a vampire makes one a vampire. No one living, of whom I am aware, knows how vampires came to be, but obviously the first underwent something. Radiation, perhaps, something for sure."
?
He shrugged.
?
"Whatever it is makes it so that sun light burns us and if we are exposed for long to ashes."
?
He looked thoughtful at Henry's revelation.
?
"So what shape is this that you are in now?"
?
Rena decided to share her secret in case he could be of use. It wasn't as if he'd be telling after what they knew. She took a deep breath.
?
"I'm here from the year 2019. I am married to him in the future so his potion ended up making him immortal as well though it wasn't his specific intention."
?
She saw no reason not to share that because Henry'd admitted the potion itself.
"I didn't bring myself back and have no idea how it was done save that it was likely by an enemy who wants my family's dream powers."
?
For the first time in a very long time, Oliver blinked, then blinked again as his mind struggled with the information. He could tell the girl wasn't lying.
?
"What has this enemy to do with me? Dreams?"
?

"Nothing. We were just wondering if you were ill, we didn't know what you were, obviously and my family can control dreams and even kill people in their sleep with them in short, though it's a lot more than that."
?
Oliver nodded, still looking baffled.
?
"And I ain't twisted like he keeps goin' on about,"Leti protested. "'e only says that because I told him to let the Victor bloke alone. He decided to twist that into I said we should cook and eat him."
?
Oliver gave a short laugh. "Now that's some good redirecting."
?
Rena told Oliver all they knew of Caligari mostly because why not if he could be helpful.
?
"Never seen anyone like that but if I do I'll avoid them...or kill them?"
He arched his brows at Henry with a chuckle.

"Of course it did to you, my dear. With your kind of stomach for all ugly things, you don't even notice true beauty anymore. For you this bat would be like any other indeed. It is a miracle you have been able to highly regard the charms of my lady. But even that is no testament to your taste. I speculate it has to do more with the fact that my Rena can even enchant a stone heart such as yours, which is not a criticism, by any means, I highly appreciate?your inclination," Henry objected, his joke only mildly strained under the pressure of the vampire's revelation.
?
He was a man of science, in the truest sense of the world. He had a flexible mind and even understood better than most what was possible. So he did not expect to fully strain his credulity through Oliver's revelation. He had expected for his mind to revel that his conclusions about greater possibilities in the world were true. But all his mind could do, until it came up with a plausible conclusion, was to keep playing catch up, until?it came up with some proper reasons to?explain what he has just seen.
?
"But it has to do more than just supply sustenance," Henry peevishly objected, still trying to come to terms. "If I were to try and consume blood, nothing would happen. So a radical change must have taken place...Some form of radiation as discovered by Herschel. Or,?I don't know, a brain anomaly as observed in mental patients in Bedlam. Or even a form of alchemy...never mind, such changes, they take a sophisticated mind to behold. you would not know what I am talking about. I don't suppose any of the scientifically minded among your kind ever wrote a treatise that explains the origins of your species?
?
Very well, let it be my turn. As for my own secrets, they have to do with my ability to change my?physical appearance. It is no trickery or illusion, but a purely scientific mechanism for me to alter myself. With a potion. See, unbelievable it is, is it not? The other unbelievable things do not rightfully belong to me so I have no right to disclose them," Henry Hyde hedged, trying to?spare Rena the need to talk about?her family or any of the other strangeness that has befallen her recently.??

Re: calling on the Doctor, Natari, Van Helsing

It was now Helsing’s turn to consider, as she spoke to him, chuckling a bit when she spoke of turning him into a tiger. I’m afraid I would make a very poor tiger, but I see your point, I suppose at least some of my beliefs and therefore my morals, would change.?? The?idea of me becoming something with such an appetite is rather amusing; of course, it would not be nearly so amusing, we’re such a thing possible. ?but I am seeing your point, more and more. The things you would not have done as a human, you now do as a vampire, not for being malicious or malevolent, but out of necessity to do so.

But, what if someone such as myself, or one similar to me, he paused, not that I can do this as of yet you understand, but what if it were possible for one such as myself to actually make blood, in the laboratory? What if it could actually be and taste like human blood, having the same nutrition for you, but yet it would not come from a human, it would be made, but still be the same composition. If such a thing Were?possible, and, if one could produce enough of it, would you and your kind be satisfied with such? He thought, then added, I suppose there would still be the need for the thrill of the hunt, but what if…, He paused, not truly knowing how something could be made to simulate that. Well one step at a time I suppose, but would your lot???be satisfied with such? ?if so, then those who wish to remain as you are could do so, and they could still have the food with nutrients they need, and yet, no killing, at least not in the way you ?do it presently.

Re: calling on the Doctor, Natari, Van Helsing

?
Natari?considered for a second then shrugged.
?
"I suppose the homeless I chose were always drunks or looked particularly down and out. I suppose I never considered how one would look who had just hit a spot of misfortune."
?
She sighed.
?
"I suppose one's morals must change when they become vampires or anything truly. Were I to turn you into a tiger if such could be done, your morality and what you considered appetizing would surely change as well. If we constrain ourselves to human morality, it would be a denial of reality for we aren't human and so our morality can't be the same anymore than our needs and desires are."

Re: calling on the Doctor, Natari, Van Helsing

Helsing also chuckled, then frowned as she explained about why they could not simply feed on the condemned. I suppose you’re right about that, unfortunately, and yes, as many condemned criminals as there are, there might not be enough, especially when one considers that, you wouldn’t need to feed only once, you would have to be able to feed mini mini times. I suppose, your way of doing it is probably one of, if not the best Way of dealing with the problem, although as I mentioned, knowing who is, and who isn’t worthy to live, does present somewhat of a dilemma. For example how does one know if a person is simply homeless and down on their luck, or if such is a pattern for them in their life? I suppose there is no way to know it. As for vegetarianism, he continued, I wouldn’t recommend it either, or I have heard similar such things.

Re: calling on the Doctor, Natari, Van Helsing

?
Natari chuckled.
?

"I don't eat meat, actually. I just drink these days."
?
She knew that he understood the flaw in his suggestion and was only teasing.
?
"The animal blood is somewhat like this vegetarianism of which you speak but with even less sustenance. I have heard that as people do require the vitamins found in meat the vegetables aren't enough truly anyway, so I don't recommend it," she said with a chuckle.
?
"Yes the condemned would be wonderful but there are two problems with it. One there aren't enough of them to feed us all were we all able to do so and for another were we to kill all the criminals condemned to death, it would be noticed and more like you would discover us eventually and hunt our kind down or at least start a blood bath by trying. Some do take the condemned though, it has happened before, just there are those reasons to explain why it can not always happen."

"No kidding, " Henry exclaimed when he witnessed the transformation. "How interesting. Bats can be occasionally most adorable, but yours is about as ugly as your human persona, no offense. How on Earth did you manage??
to become such an ugly bat," Henry marveled. "I honestly did not think vampires could do that. It seems so unscientific," he complained.

"Alright, so you made a suggestion. But what makes our Leti likely to accept it? As you have seen, she is most taciturn when she wishes to be, she even denies her favorite hobbies?and other things besides that I won't mention until we know?you better," Hyde smirked. "But truly, why is it that your suggestion is so effective? And what is it about the blood that makes you stronger anyway? I bet I could drink blood all day long and would never get the benefits. Were you born this way? Did you have to perform dark rituals on a moonlit night, pray to your Lord Satan? How does it all work," the good doctor wondered, convinced most of all by Rena's confirmation that it was all real.?

Leti ignored most of the doctor's odd and annoying suggestions about her nonexistent cannibalism because he was only trying to annoy her so she couldn't allow him to succeed. At least not fully. She did smile, pleased with his encouragement when it came to quitting her job. IT was still hard to believe he was actually going to let her work for him.
?
"I'll study hard," she promised. "I'll be at your place early in the morning sharp and I'll get some books if you'll let me borrow em.I'll be real careful with them I promise," she said, tone eager and sincere.
?
She knew she'd have long hours studying when not working for him but she would do it. She wanted to be worth having around.
?
Oliver studied Henry with a smile of amusement on his face as he silently weighed his options. How to tell them what he was.
?
"So I assume I'm going first," he said.
?
"Very well. I am a vampire."
?
Before they could object he was across the room in a flash, far vaster than the human eye could track then back at Henry's side. He lifted the larger man easily and tossed him into the hair before placing him on his feet. He then misted, became a bat, flew around Henry's head and then misted once again before becoming himself in the flesh.
?
Leti gaped, one hand flying to her mouth.
?
"Now you gonna try an eat us," she asked in horror and he chuckled, shaking his head.
?
?
"I've already eaten tonight, thanks. And I'm hoping you shall be more interesting alive. Now it's your turn," he told Henry.
?
"Vampires can't be real," Leti said shaking her head in negation.
?
Then again Rena said the same of time travel but...And yet still... She stared at Oliver wordlessly.
?
"My family is aware of vampires. Some are their friends. More my parents and my uncle, but yeah they are real," Rena told Henry and Leti.
?
"You are aware...Now that is a surprise but at least not the thing you have to tell me or none of you would've been surprised," Oliver said.
?
"But is that how you made me forget what you said to me,"Leti asked and Oliver nodded.
?
"You drank my blood?"
?
He shook his head. "Merely made eye contact and made a suggestion," he assured.

"You have seen all three of us. That means you have witnessed impressive incarnate. Of course we wouldn't walk. I have some arrangements with a few Hansomes. You know how it is, a gentleman never tells his?secrets, so nothing can be more prudent than covering them up. I have scratched a few hands here and there, so if you need your covert operations to stay covert, while you're with me, I can arrange for that...Err, well done Leticia. A neat break is all it takes. Onward and upward to a better future, and lots of cooking bodies," Henry interrupted himself with the simple pleasure of acknowledging his friend's progress.
?
Seeing how Oliver, summoned a cab that was no affiliated with him and his connections, Henry merely shrugged, beginning to feel expansive about the whole adventure. "Oh yes? You are older than me because....you are in fact your house? No that can't be it. It would be too intriguing. Are you, a portrait in the house, hanging since it was built? I am not giving up yet, I have more guesses to go, I think, Unless you just want to tell me?" Henry smugly suggested, as if he scored yet another victory in front of his lady.

Oliver laughed, a rare thing for him.
?
"I honestly haven't seen anything impressive yet," he told Henry, rising with a fluid grace that believed the fact he didn't look at all well, Leti noted as she fund herself edging a step closer to Henry.
?
The idea of going to this one's house made her feel unsettled for some reason she could not quite explain?because she?did believe?Henry would keep her safe.
?
"Let us be off then," Oliver said, nodding toward the door.
?
"We shall have to find a cab, as you will not wish to walk all the way to my home. It is on the edge of London, not in the heart of the city."
?
As they moved through the Black Bess, Leti's boss called,"Where you goin' Leticia? Get yourself back in time for your shift."
?
He'd never seen her come in to socialize. Pausing she flicked her brother's friend, the owner of the Black Bess, an apologetic look.
?
"Sorry, Al. I won't be workin' here anymore. I have a new job with the doctor. And now he's gettin' married he'll be needin' more 'elp with his patients."
?
She smiled and waved at the shocked expression of her boss as they departed.
?
?
It took a few annoying minutes to find a cab. Oliver had no general need of such and taking company with slow mortals annoyed him. This had better be worth his time, he silently grumbled to himself. Once n the cab he settled back with an annoyed sigh. This bloody ride would take nearly an hour...Actually it took over an hour.
?
?
Leti felt her unease grow as they rode, and she wondered aloud how they would get back to town. Oliver sighed again.
?
"I'll pay the driver to wait outside and take you back into town," he said and she relaxed a little. She wished they'd known how far Oliver lived, then Doctor Henry would've just decided to bother his servants again instead of riding for so bloody long.
?
?
Rena sat beside Henry with her hand in his, trying not to think about Caligari or her concerns because it would do no good. Instead she chose to focus on Oliver, wondering what he could have of interest for them and hoping it could possibly be useful.
?
?
When he gave the driver the last bit of instructions they drew up in front of an old and somewhat rundown manor house, but it was quaint and elegant for all that if not in the best of repairs. Oliver met the man's eyes when he told him to wait in a rather intense way that Leti found strange. It made Rena frown though she wasn't quite sure why. It just felt....like something she should maybe recognize.
?
?
Once inside, Oliver moved quickly about lighting candles. There was no electric lighting. Leti found herself wondering why as the man was obviously well off with a house likely bursting with antiques.
?
"It looks real old," she said, admiringly.
?
"1300s," Oliver replied. "Some items were in the family even sense the 1200s before my day."
?
Leti's eyes widened.
?
"Before your day? Of course they' be before your day."
?
Oliver chuckled, turning to Henry. "Hardly. You kept calling me young man and I do appreciate it ut the truth is I am far older than you."

Re: calling on the Doctor, Natari, Van Helsing

Helsing chuckled, that was going to be my next question, or rather my next suggestion, he told her openly. I was just about to suggest that you might want to try feeding on the blood of animals as well, but you say it is not quite as satisfying. That is really a pity, not that animals deserve to be killed any more than humans but, he shrugged, not feeling exactly like going into the explanation of how Mankind?had been given dominion over animals, and the like.

And, he continued, giving a sigh, I suppose the other problem with taking the blood of beasts is that, someone would inadvertently end up feeding on someone’s pet, and that certainly would not go very well. ?there is always…, But then he stopped himself with a frown, before he could make what would be a foolish suggestion. Well, some people, do not choose to eat meat, so they become vegetarians, but since vegetables have no blood and that is your only sustenance…, He shrugged again, rather annoyed that his suggestion would not work. I suppose there’s no other way. Then his eyes brightened, as he suggested, the blood of condemned criminals; those who have already been found guilty and are condemned to die, and who are going to be executed anyway, perhaps, those???
