Re: The Birth Of Katherine Pierce
¡°Now that all depends on how much of those stories you believe.¡± Katherine was well aware of how so many of those portrayed her kind and of the so-called ¡®bad apples¡¯ who justified those perceptions. ¡°Besides I would wager there a ways one could survive without taking a life if they were so inclined. If one believed in such things.¡± She was careful to add that last bit to avoid appearing as if she'd either been over indulgent with wine or completely mad.
?
Her head whipped around at the sound of her snarled name catching a glimpse of the wooden stake from the corner of her eye. If not for the strong scent of blood in the air she would have chosen hunting the masked attacker down to educate him as to just what happened to those arrogant enough to target the wife of Vlad the Impaler.?
?
She turned to see the wooden stake buried in the woman she'd chosen to befriend the sight of which only fueled her anger. Her first instinct was to seek vengeance as she firmly believed in ¡®blood for blood¡¯ though it was quickly becoming more obvious that if she rushed off when she returned Mina would no doubt be dead.
?
In the blink of an eye she was at her side though she'd made a mental note of the masked figure¡¯s scent for future reference. There was only one possible option she could think of in that moment though it wouldn't be forced. If the human chose death then she'd remain at her side until she passed away.?
?
Casting a quick look around not all surprised when everyone seemed to have gone back to their own private conversations without noticing the injured woman. The ones who didn't seemed far more preoccupied with the door being ripped from its hinges. Perhaps they hadn't even noticed the events leading up to it. Either way she had important matters to attend to.
?
Bringing her wrist up to her lips using her fangs to make a small gash then gently placing it against Mina¡¯s while softly whispering. ¡°We¡¯re not all monsters. If you wish to live¡drink.¡±

?
(ooc: figured while she wants to save Mina she'd also respect her decision if she didn't drink her blood)

Re: The Birth Of Katherine Pierce
"But vampires are monsters," Mina said with a giggle, shaking her head.
?
"I couldn't imagine being that sort of creature...turning into a monster and stealing life from others to feed my own...I just couldn't."
?
True enough but would such a creature ever have to depend on a man or anyone else for that matter, a small part of her mind couldn't help but wonder. It was then, when the figure lunged seemingly from no where.Wrapped in a dark cloak and wearing a? mask much like the phantom she had just joked about, hurling what looked like a wooden stake. Though the name Katarina was snarled from under the mask, the aim was off and...Mina felt a sudden numbness rather than pain. Unexpected that but she was so weak...and cold...due to the expanding wetness on the front of her dress...Blood. Her own rapidly spreading blood...and she could not breathe so very well. Blinking in shock at Katherine her mouth made a silent O. The cloaked masked figure was? gone as suddenly as it had come in, the door of the coffee shop torn from its hinges, so suddenly had it been snatched open to facilitate the departure.
?
OOC, the idea just came to me. Could be an enemy of Vlad's or even an old one of Katherine's up to you...but figured an attempt on her life would make things fun for potential later, whatever you guys wanted to do with it and gives her that excuse to turn Mina we talked about.

Re: The Birth Of Katherine Pierce
¡°It has been my experience that most are too wrapped up in their own lives to care about what others may be going through.¡± Katherine let her eyes drift from one face to another of those scattered about the establishment. For centuries she had watched the interaction between humans, some she almost admired while others she held nothing but contempt for. ¡°But on rare occasions some have proven to be the exception.¡±
?
She imagined talking this way about people might give the impression she was far older than her appearance indicated but it was the truth of the matter. At the next words spoken she let her eyes wander back to her new friend with an amused look on her face. ¡°Phantoms? Hardly.¡±
?
Inclining her head a little in thought as she decided against coming out and admitting to what she was. ¡°Where I come from there are all these stories about vampires¡beings with eternal life. It is of them I was thinking when I spoke of being able to see what the world may be like in a hundred years or so.¡±

Re: Life in London
Kol's expression was relaxed and entertained, as though watching a show put on strictly for his benefit as he lounged back in the chair.
?
Ben stared and smiled slightly when Rebecca moved rapidly from one place to another.
?
"Ah...I'm betting one of those floor board tricks, something rigged under the floor to move the board rapidly, yes?"
?
He was interested and pleased with himself for what he considered to be a very educated guess if not an accurate one. At least he would not appear the gullible fool to this sharp young lady. The thought along with all color drained from his face as she cut her palm. Leaning forward he studied the wound closing in fascination.
?
He made a small sound of incredulity, then his eyes widened at sight of her fangs. Kol remained still, though Ben did flick a quick glance to him. Kol only smiled and arched his brows.
?
"I could slit my throat but I think I'd need to be paid for that," he drawled, looking from Ben to Rebecca.
?
"I don't...think that shall be necessary," Ben said, voice shaking slightly as his gaze returned once more to Rebecca's healed hand. ?
"So...How much of the old legends are true...what else is real," he asked, numb shock taking him over yet his curiosity still managing to peak forth like a turtle from its shell.
?
"I'd like to see Renfieldd try to explain this one," he said with a short laugh, not sure why his friend had come to mind at that particular moment save for the fact that he would love an explanation himself so as not to look the complete fool if this were indeed some joke, but for the life of him he couldn't find one.
?
"What...else can you do," he found himself asking.
?
"And you aren't going to eat me are you? I mean...that is I did look after you this evening...Even though it appears you didn't need that at all."
?
How was he so calm, and even smiling a little, some distant part of his mind wondered. Would he become frightened soon? No.He thought not. Not unless, of course, they did decide that yes they were going to have him for dinner...

Re: Life in London
Rebekah tipped her head to one side as she cast a sidelong glance in the direction of her brother. It was no surprise that he appeared content with his role as spectator, no doubt curious as to what the man's reaction to learning the truth would be. ¡°I¡¯m afraid he would be more than a little out of his depth when dealing with me.¡± She said with a light smirk of ¡®Jack the Ripper¡¯.
?
Her thoughts going toward possible actions to prove this was no joke without completely terrifying the poor man. Something told her this would most likely either end with his being compelled or worse case scenario her brother would decide the quickest and easiest way to solve the problem was killing Ben.?
?
¡°I shall have to prove my words true then I suppose.¡± Making certain she had his undivided attention before within the blink of an eye she was standing across the room near a desk where she lingered for several seconds so it would register that she had indeed moved before with the same speed retaking her seat.
?
Slowly lifting each hand for the first time revealing the fancy silver letter opener she had grabbed from the desk seconds before. ¡°Watch.¡± She instructed using it to slice open her palm which bleed for a few short seconds before the wound fully healed as though it never happened.
?
She studied his face a moment as her eyes changed to a deep red¡the veins around them becoming more visible and her lips parted to reveal descending fangs. Both returning to normal once she was certain he noticed the difference so as not to frighten him any more than necessary.?

Re: No Place Like London (Oliver/Nadia)
"It sounds as though your father loves and values you then," Oliver said flatly when Nadia spoke of her father moving heaven and earth to find her.
?
"Perhaps there is some sort of...shhall we say secret trouble from which he strives to protect you and the rest," he suggested.
?
When she spoke of being lacking in travel he arched blond brows slightly, expression sardonic.
?
"Well...I would wager that you are well educated...Surely you have studied geography and history...Is there a place that interests you? Somewhere you would like to see? were it me, and did I have such an interest, considering your current dissatisfaction, I would just cease the day...And go."
?
His eyes narrowed, studying the mortals a few tables over that were studying him. The bar maid looked terrified when one of the men, the thin young one, gestured at him and spoke. His lips twitched. Perceptive girl. There were few of those...
?
He waited until she was unattached again, moving between tables and with lightning swiftness snatched at her arm, drawing her close hard enough for her hip to bump the table. The girl had fire and spirit, struggling and demanding to be released. He snapped for her to be still and watched her face in interest as he saw the dawning comprehension in her eyes as she realized that he was far stronger than he looked and far less weak. Watched her realize that she wasn't going anywhere.
?
He warned her in an undertone only loud enough for her and Nadia to hear that if she screamed there would be trouble. He then caught her gaze and demanded to know the situation at the other table. Words spilled from the girl against her will. She told of the older man being a doctor and the younger a scientist of sorts named Victor. The girl, engaged to the older man, had a dress under the cloak shorter than the bar maid had ever seen anyone wear and she had been upset when it had been uncovered in the lady's room. The bar maid said that the girl promised to explain it later at some dinner party she had been invited to. When Oliver demanded to know why they had been staring at him, the girl spilled that they were concerned for his health and she had just kept the younger man, from offering him money.
?
Even under the vampiric thrall, the girl's green brown eyes widened in alarm as she said,"I knew you'd kill im for that or at least hurt im bad. He is one of them rich uns what don't know..."
?
Her gaze dropped to Oliver's clothes and she flushed in embarrassment, noting that he was also a rich one, but obviously did know...Something.
?
She looked pleadingly to Nadia as Oliver looked away, freeing her from his gaze.
?
"Please let me alone," she stammered, stepping back.
"They ain't done nothin'...Just they had a lot of drink."
?
Oliver nodded and waved her away dismissively.
?
"I have likely less use for people than you say your father does," he told Nadia, tone scathing. "They are all worthless and foolish, only good for A meal."
?
Then pausing he gave her a curious look.
?
"though how and why a lady would get a hold of a dress short enough to traumatize a bar maid is...interesting," he concluded.
?
He recalled the girl had an odd yellow tent to her skin...Chinese or some such? A cross breed at least for her eyes had not been slanted. He remembered her sitting in the older man's lap, and being entertainingly inappropriate, a thing on which the bar maid had not commented. The dress had stuck in her mind more. As she had told all she knew he hadn't stopped her from hurrying away. She was smart enough not to make trouble for him, at least.

Re: No Place Like London (Oliver/Nadia)
Nadia desperately wished she could keep her thoughts from drifting back to her father as it both saddened and infuriated the ¡®princess¡¯ beyond words. As a child she used to trail along behind him learning everything that she could¡hanging on every word when not getting up to mischief with her siblings or simply causing trouble for the resident werewolf prankster.?
?
It seemed unimaginable to even consider traveling or anything else without her family who had always been such a big part of her life. But perhaps there was something to his suggestion of stepping apart from them in order to find her own path in this world. ¡°Perhaps.¡±
?
Could she really be expected to spend an eternity trying to hold her family together when her father couldn't be bothered to notice things were not right with his own wife? ¡°At times I wonder what life would be like without all the politics and talks of territory.¡± She wouldn't say anything¡not to a stranger¡but if he weren't so focused on those things then perhaps things wouldn't have reached this point.
?
¡°Both of which are lacking in my life.¡± She replied on the subject of ¡®travel and adventure¡¯. There was a slight pause as the brunette entertained the possibility that very thing might be precisely what her mother needed. If only she felt comfortable enough asking about her parents¡¯ marriage as she was well aware that whatever happened between them might well be none of her business.?
?
Her attention briefly drifted to the mortals around them. ¡°Lords knows they create enough drama to prove either interesting or annoying at times.¡± Offering a small shrug of slender shoulders as her gaze drifted back to Oliver. ¡°Something not all are deserving of¡as my father would say.¡± He¡¯d never held a particularly high opinion of most people, something his own past experiences likely hadn't helped.
?
¡°Without a thought to your wishes?¡± Having never lost a member of her immediate family she couldn't imagine what waking to find them all dead. But she'd heard her father speak of the mortal family he lost years before meeting her mother.
?
¡°My parents had a short time together that resulted in my mother being with child at the time my father went away. He had every intention of returning to marry her. But the news of a grandchild who would be born out of wedlock was a thing that my her parents frowned upon. The night I was born I was taken away by grandfather and she was exiled¡the discovery of which infuriated my father when he returned. But he tracked my mother down¡she told him they'd had a daughter and what had happened¡and he moved heaven and earth to find me.¡±

Re: No Place Like London (Victor/Henry/Rena/Leti)
Victor looked a strange mixture of puzzled, and tired; perhaps this is all relative, he replied, hoping to adequately answer Rena's comment. I humbly ask your pardon, he stated, but the day has been long, the hour is late, and I fear that I am all the less of a conversationalist as a result. He wondered to himself what it could be about Rena that was attractive to him, yet frightened him so much. ?Why was it that he¡ Felt that she¡ Knew more about him than he wanted her to know? ?The thought was like a ghost, playing at the edges of his mind, haunting him without actually making an appearance. ?It was a monster which constantly stalked him, at least it could, if he did not drive it away somehow. ?At present, he chose to drive it away with much more pleasant thoughts of¡ Reddish brown hair, brownish green eyes, a woman charming in her own right. ?But to reveal his thoughts, this bud which could bloom into a full flower of interest, Might well make him seem little more than the common male, and even worse, it could make her think that he considered her merely a lady of the night, which of course, he did not. ?He reasoned that she would be all the less interested in him for showing his own interest at a time when he had exceeded his normal alcohol consumption. ?Would he still think her quite as charming in the morning? Tomorrow afternoon? While working in the lab? ? He decided it best to simply go home, and sleep this off, then when his mind was clear, he could decide on a definite plan of action.??? ? ? "No,"Rena disagreed with Victor's words of each day being a new sort of wonder. That was it, wasn't it? IT was difficult for her mind to hold onto the concepts. She was so drunk hey kept wanting to slide away.
?
"We felt powerful...untouchable...took so much for granted," she murmured, pressing her cheek into Henry's chest, including him in her we' along with their other friends in her mind's eye.
?
"Must be nice,"Leti muttered with a slight shrug and baffled shake of her head.
?
"Not so much when things are suddenly quite out of your control," Rena said with a sigh.

Re: No Place Like London (Victor/Henry/Rena/Leti)
Victors brows shot up in alarm, and he gave a small gasp when the driver made his remarks to Henry. ?After Rena had made her comment about the night being fortunate, Victor followed up with¡ Then again, every night and every day are in and of themselves, their own reasons for celebration, simply because¡ They appeared. ?Sometimes, he continued, the contents of the?days and nights are not always celebratory, but the chance to be alive, the privilege of living yet another day, is indeed pause to be most grateful. ?He also frowned with concern, but said nothing as Rena held more tightly to Henry; he had seen just enough of the discontented side of Henry to know that he did not want to see anymore. ?Besides, he thought to himself, she has made her choice, and is no longer my concern, save for the concern that I would show to any friend. ?His concern at the moment was staying awake long enough to get home, and into bed. ? How he wished more than ever that his Elizabeth was with him now, to share that bed. ?He thought to himself that¡ He might not even make an appearance at the lab tomorrow, seeing as how his ?Elizabeth had rewarded all his efforts thus far with only flopping, flailing arm and leg movements. ?Although Rena might have thought her a prude, Victor reflected on what a fine example and contrast she would've been, sitting in her proper place beside him, perhaps holding his hand, or placing an occasional arm around him, but not throwing herself at him, as Rena had done with Henry. ?He found his thoughts once more straying too Leti; she was certainly pretty enough, but, he wondered if he really should be entertaining thoughts of knowing her better, while he was still so desperately working to bring his Elizabeth back to life. ?Should he really be working so hard to bring back the dead, when there were so many living, breathing, lovely women around him? ?He was increasingly forced to face the grim reality?that, with each passing day, it was looking less and less probable that he would ever make her live again. ?He thought of trying to create another Elizabeth, then quickly slammed the lid shut on that mental coffin of thought. ?I might spend a lifetime, and still not make her the way she was; likely all?I would end up creating is another monster, he told himself. ?He decided to wait until the time was right and then, perhaps, try his luck with the barmaid; perhaps, by discreetly watching Henry, he might learn how to exude that silent, but irresistible charm, that Drew women to him.?? ??

Rena smiled and nodded gratefully to Henry's offer of help.
?
"Can you lift me in with you," she asked, lifting her arms almost as a child would who wanted to be picked up. Because she did want to be picked up. He often simply scooped her into his arms even if he wasn't aware of that now. Being so much taller than she it was easier.
?
The driver frowned.
"Maybe it was a bearded lady what drove you if she wore a petticoat," the man snickered in response to Henry.
?
"And I wasn't attendin' on you, Sir...That there bar maid said a ride was needed and I was first in line...I can get you home just as good-n-some bearded lady," he said snickering again.
?
"I ain't never seen one outside-n a circus, though."
?
When Victor spoke, the driver merely shrugged.
"A night like any other-n I suppose, good sir," he grunted.
?
It was obvious he found the entire affair strange but perhaps had seen plenty oof strange in his line of work.
?
"Tonight has been wonderful, and fortunate," rena told him with a smile as she tightened her arms around Henry.
?
Leti stepped? forward with a mild frown of concern, hoping the couple wouldn't topple over into a drunken heap in the street. She put out a hand into empty air, waiting as if to steady Henry did he need it with her far smaller form.

Re: No Place Like London (Victor/Henry/Rena/Leti)
"Oh, I couldn't possibly be quite as interesting. Every man loses some of his sanity when he is drunk, for the better of course..." Henry returned the quip. Then his gaze speculatively passed on the cab driver. He has not recognized the man and he thought he knew many of them. He used the Hansoms often enough for that, or so he believed. "I rather expected John today, an elderly man, bulky, white hair, wears a?petticoat?and boots that both seem older than me.?Would you know why he could not attend on me today," Henry garrulously inquired of the driver, his eyes narrowing with?suspicion.
?
Rena's?claim of his wealth fortunately distracted?him from inquiring too closely into the matter. Re: No Place Like London (Victor/Henry/Rena/Leti)
Victor found that he was rapidly running out of things to say, witty or otherwise; He was not drunk enough yet to lose consciousness, but he would likely fall asleep quite rapidly once he was safely home. ?Ah, there we are, he stated, after paying his fair, and managing to get into the carriage easily enough. ?Again, he was thankful that the others, or that at least Henry, was able to pay for himself and Rena, as he had the money to pay his own way, but not enough for all three of them, after having paid for everything else that evening. ?He was, by no means a poor man, but he made a practice of carrying only so much coin with him at one time, enough to get to work and back, should he wish to take a carriage, and, to stop for a meal or the occasional drink after work. ?Unless the others spoke to him, he probably would not say much on the way home; instead, he would likely ponder the evenings events, the upcoming dinner party, and how it really should have been his beautiful, beloved Elizabeth there with him at the bar. She would not have thrown herself at him, would not have sat upon his lap as Rena had done with Henry, she would have known better; still, he couldn't help wishing that maybe just once, she would break with Victorian society. Had she done this, it would have been his responsibility, and his pleasure as her man, to pay their tab, have a carriage called, and get her home, where they could be alone. ?He wondered to himself what it would be like to have a woman want him that much, to be that much enthralled with him. ?He was liking Leti well enough, but of course, he would not have made such an open pass at her in a public place. ?right now, he found he was too tired to think much of making passes at all, the drink, plus the disappointing results of today's work in the lab, now pressing hard upon him. ?Had it not been for Frank's insane jealousy, she would have likely been with me, for we would've been married, he thought to himself; choosing not to give place to such angering thoughts, he casually stated to the other two and the driver, which ever cared to reply, rather a nice evening tonight is it not? ?He idly wondered if he shouldn't have offered Rena a hand up into the carriage, he had indeed considered it, but had quickly dismissed the idea, not wanting to offend Henry by the Silent implication that he was incapable of helping his lady into a carriage.???

Leti merely chuckled at Henry and reached out to tug him along by the arm.
?
"The Hansom company usually keeps a few hangin' round out front for them what's too drunk to drive themselves home," she said.
?
She opened the door to the bar and waited for them to all pass through as Victor had already settled the entire tab.
?
"I must say I'm very excited about the party...And I do hope you're as interesting when you're sober, Dr. Henry," she teased with a little laugh.
?
She hoped he didn't regret inviting her and giving her his address when he was sober as well. She was only a bar maid, after all. The fluttering in her stomach made her fear more acute but she gave them all another smile.
?
Waving her free arm at the front cab, she called out,"I've got a fair for you...Two of em, actually."
?
The driver lept down from the box and opened the carriage door, nodding.
?
He inquired as the locations as to set the best rout in his mind s well as to calculate the fair.
?
"That'll be t pents each," he said.
?
Rena frowned, leaning on Henry's arm and sighing.
?
"Let us sit down first...Henry won't want to go digging about for coins in the dark just standing here. Why if he dropped something from his pocket book?he'd never see it."
?
Men called?the small money pouch a?pocket book?these days too rather than a wallet. A money purse, and she was proud to have recalled so much, especially right now.
?
The driver grunted assent and moved aside so they could enter.
?
"I need it before I start drivin' though," he said and Rena smirked.
?
"I'm sure 2 pennies shan't be a problem for Henry." ?
Tossing her long dark hair in a haughty gesture she turned slowly to study the carriage. How to get up into it. Glancing down, eyes sharper than most in the darkness, she studied the step and wondered if Henry was too drunk to help her in because in her current state of extremely tipsy, keeping the long cloak wrapped around her so that her extremely out of fashion and too short dress wouldn't show while climbing up into this thing was going to be tricky. The last thing she wanted was to fall flat onto her face...Okay no the 2nd last thing she wanted was to fall on her face. The last thing she wanted was for anyone to see her dress if the cloak fell open. Then again it was dark.

Ooc, sorry, didn't see this one in time, it would've normally been added onto the other one; just a quick reply so that he can tell them where he lives.

Re: No Place Like London (Victor/Henry/Rena/Leti)
Rena's brows shot up when Henry compared himself to the overly mild Victor. when sober it was likely true and likely took more of an effort than was healthy. ~The thought made her want very much to give him the best night of his life very soon...just so he could unwind a bit. And it wasn't as if she didn't know how...exactly to please him in particular.
?
When Henry called them a group of friends Leti started slightly, them her cheeks warmed in pleasure s she shot the doctor a happy yet incredulous?smile.?Though she had?been invited to the party and counting her lucky stars for that, it was difficult for the bar maid to accept the fact?she could?truly be considered a friend by those people of breeding.?People just didn't, not when they were of such a higher class. She'd nearly forgotten Rena calling her a friend earlier...just it was so difficult to comprehend. She shot the doctor another smile, wiping her hands on her skirt and smoothing it down for no particular reason other than that?it was something to do.
?
?
Rena smiled in pleasure when Henry pointed her out as his distraction. There were several things she could've said in reply, but she'd prefer to show him at this point. She merely murmured,"The feeling is mutual, Dearest Henry."
?
She carefully slid down from his lap, reaching back to put one small hand on his far larger arm for balance. If she moved carefully...this ought to work. Though Henry carrying her would've been nicer, she could manage...as it would surely gain attention...there would bee plenty of time for that when they reached his home, she thought with a shiver of anticipation.
?
?
Leti frowned in thought for a moment then recalled what the unfamiliar word meant. she shot Henry a wondering and eager smile.
?
"You are very perceptive I think. Perhaps I was listless inside...wanting more...perhaps not even fully realizing it. Now if I can just get myself through the rest of this dull evening and the next 2 until your party..."
?
She looked to Victor.
?
"Well you know Dr. Henry's address now...will you be ridin' in that direction or side o' town at all or shall I call you another Hansom?"

You would make a great addition to this newly formed group of friends, I feel. It was a pleasure to have met your acquaintance, assuming you are leaving us already..." Henry charitably announced, almost feeling like he was going to?miss the quieter man.

"But I do agree you are all correct. I thought about calling the Hansom myself and every time I remembered, something better summoned my attention, usually this mischievous little minx," Henry fondly pointed at Rena, with an approving smile. "Alas, it does seem like it is time for this party to adjourn and hopefully to resume later. Yes, lead the way, listless Leticia. I am only joking of course, I do so enjoy words that start with the same letter," Henry explained, using plainer language to be understood in case that was necessary. |

Re: No Place Like London (Victor/Henry/Rena/Leti)
"Shall I help to call you a hansom cab,"Leti asked Victor, a frown of concern crossing her face when she saw his unsteady movements.

"You could all share one perhaps," she suggested, tossing a look to Henry and Rena.
Likely the 2 of them were far too drunk to walk if that was how they had indeed arrived. And even if they did manage to walk, any of the 3 could be set upon by thieves in the state they were in.

"It would truly be safer all round," she decided aloud on the heals of that thought.

The night was growing late and she was ready?for closing. She was tired, but excited as well and wanted to be alone with her thoughts, not having to?hurry trays of?drinks to tipsy strangers. She wanted to think of her marvelous night and the good fortune that seemed to have?sailed?in the door with these amazing people. She wanted to think of the excitement she'd snatched at like a fish craving water and how the daring?act seemed to have gone far better than she'd imagined it could have. The concept of excitement in her life had been something the bar maid had never hoped for or expected but now it was here she was finding the mundane to be...rather difficult.
