Locked Headed to Sleepy Hollow (Sam/Jo)

¡°I wonder how much of that old story is true?¡± Jo knew the two likely had very little in common but it was hard not to think back on the animated movie that her teachers used to let them watch every single year at Halloween when she was a little girl. It was one of the highlights of elementary school¡that and recounting every single detail to her father when he returned from ¡®working a job¡¯.

?

She walked outside headed toward the impala with a duffel bag slung over her should once they had finished checking out of the hotel. ¡°If Jenica is right and there's a weapon out there that could kill Eve¡what are the odds of us getting to it first?¡± It had become a nearly instinctive reaction for her thoughts to turn to all the ways things could go sideways after two years on the road learning everything that she could from hunting with Sam.

Sam made a noncommittal sound, mind preoccupied.
?
If he could get the Jekyll and Ms.Jekyll to work for them, now that would be something.
?
"If only a little is true it could be enough," he said distractedly.
"And unfortunately a little is always true at least."
?
As they headed out his mind toyed with the biggest part of the puzzle. Jekyll was obviously difficult to kill. So promising not to kill him if he helped may not work so well. He and Dean had taken down demons, but then again, sometimes those who weren't demons, who were lesser, could still be harder to kill. It was a matter of?science in Jekyll's case rather than hocus pocus, after all.
?
So...If they couldn't kill him, perhaps they could parley. What if they had something he wanted? Having some violent vicious bad ass on their side could only help against the likes of Eve. And if not, Eve would surely find it easier to kill him than they would, so either way it could work. It wasn't the first time he'd set 2 bads against one another. Locating Jekyll would have to come later, though, when they had time to seek out back up. One thing at a time, and now they needed to hopefully find the gun after joining forces. He was looking forward to seeing Castiel again for sure.
?
When they arrived he glanced around, then looked to Jo with a shrug.
?
"Not very impressive, is it? But sometimes it's where the worst things are," he concluded darkly.

¡°Have to wonder what it was about this town that drew Jenica here.¡± Jo knew all too well it could all be tied into whatever ¡®job¡¯ the woman was working or even the vendetta against Eve, something all of them could relate to with the loss of Dean only two years ago. A subject she didn't dare bring up any more often than was necessary with the toll it had taken on Sam.
?
It was hard sometimes to fully understand what knowing someone had literally died and went to hell would put a person through. But fortunately when it came to those conversations they had Jenica who made the same deal for her own brother. Not entirely the same experience but she'd been able to put certain things in perspective when it had been needed the most.
?
Though right now she imagined his mind was still on the whole ¡®Jekyll/Hyde¡¯ thing he¡¯d mentioned before coming here.?

Sam made a distracted sound and looked down at a text that had just come in. He gave a low whistle then sighed. Dean would've loved this one, he thought darkly. Dean...Dean was gone though not really as he was suffering in hell, not at peace as were the dead loved ones of other people. But not Dean. Sam couldn't comfort himself that that knowledge. Instead he could only try to carry on the work. The work Dean would've wanted him to do and the work he had never truly wanted to be a part of. The normal life for which he'd so longed wasn't even a pipe dream anymore though. It was as long gone as Dean.
?
He sent a hasty reply to the text before glancing over at Jo.
?
"Apparently a vampire just tore the throats out of an entire group of friends who were out to dinner. He did it publicly, not even attempting to hide, yet reports claim he didn't seem young or out of control or starved."
?
Frowning he glanced at the text again.
?
"Right outside of town. That's why we were notified first," he concluded grimly.
?
"Seems she was right. Something is going down here...probably a lot of something."

¡°I don't get it. Why make such public kills?¡± Jo almost immediately regretted asking the question as it occurred to her the answer might be one she didn't want to know. Things did seem to be escalating at an alarming rate these days which suggested a storm was coming. The scope of which could be so much worse than either one of them had ever dealt with.
?
She figured once they got settled the next thing would be to either looking into whatever led a vampire to outing itself like that or tracking Jenica down. ¡°Kinda hoping that's not Eve related because if she's branching out beyond the usual demon lackeys¡¡± Shuddering at the thought.
?
¡°Of all the places in the world¡why this one?¡± She could almost understand if a city like New Orleans that seemed to be like a magnet to the supernatural if all the accounts of other hunters hadn't been exaggerated as most tales told over a beer around the roadhouse often were.?

"That's just it. The vamp is reported to have appeared to be out of control basically," Sam told Jo grimly.
?
"Whatever is controlling vamps can't be good," he stated, flushing as soon as the words had left his mouth, considering how stupid they sounded.
?
He glanced to Halbrek and Castiel noting that the 2 looked well. He knew that Dan wouldn't have approved or even been receptive. Dean would've been certain that the Demoness had voodooed Cas in some way or whatever demons did...Or that Cas was so lonely for companionship on his level that he was allowing her feminine whiles to taint his judgment. Sam believed the angel stronger and wiser than that and if he saw something decent in the war demoness he'd give her a chance, so he had. And she certainly was different. If not good, at least at one with the concept? of balance...that was how Cas had put it at any rate. And she didn't deal much with other demons.
?
And it was then that Sam spotted the fox demon sitting in the back off the booth. Eyes narrowing he frowned at Halbrek.
?

"Your? friend?"
?
Halbrek looked considering and the other demon huffed.
?
"I have higher standards, I"ll have you know," Azi said peevishly.
?
Nodding to Cas he added, "I'm friends with him, sort of."
?
?
?
Sam briefly squeezed his eyes closed and mock clutched his head. //Dean. See what happens when you're not here,//?
?
?
?
"So we need to figure out who the other horsemen are in cause they're doing this," Sam said, needing to say something productive right now.
?
"But...Won't? killing them be just like killing the witnesses? Won't the pattern just put another in his place to take up the gauntlet as it were if someone always has to fill the role?"
?
"That's why I like him,"Halbrek told Cordelia? with a dry wink.
?
"He learns fast."
?
She turned her gaze to Sam and nodded.
?
"Exactly. But killing them at least slows the process for a minute? if it can bee done."
?
"Literally," Azi added with a smirk.
"About? a minute. Our side is fast."
?
?
?
"Your side," Sam shot at the fox demon.
?
"If you're not on our side why in the hell are you here?"
?
He glared at Azi then at Cas, his expression accusing.
?
"For one because I'm bored, and also the balance...I may not be pulling for heaven but I don't want the world ruined anymore than Uncle Lucy does."
?
