Katrina Van Helsing drove into town six months ago following a rather interesting conversation over the phone about the Founders Council. Which also brought up one very important question…’how the hell did he know about her family?’ Fortunately the sheriff had chosen to be forthcoming with that bit of information. The name ‘Rayna Cruz’ was one she remembered reading in an old journal written by her ancestor.?

All the arrangements were made before their arrival including her family's purchase of an old plantation style home to serve as a residence. Once the team settled into their new home they began to familiarize themselves with Mystic Falls and its history. Next on the list was checking in with Matt Donovan.?

Since then she along with the members of her team became part of the council helping to train the others but also learning additional ‘tricks of the trade’ from both Vicente Cruz and his daughter Rayna. It proved an interesting experience being given the opportunity to train alongside someone who quite literally had hunted vampires for going on eight lifetimes or more.

She walked around the town square with certain items safely tucked away inside the inner pocket of the black leather jacket worn over a Jack Skellington t-shirt. Silently debating on whether she wanted to head over to the Mystic Grill for a bite to eat. It was then that she noticed a dark haired young woman paying close attention to the people milling about.?

Klaus listened to bonnie.??He was rather surprised by her reaction when he had mention Stefan.??He guessed more went on the five years that he missed than he expected. He said “true enough. I dunno what happen between you and Stefan.??Though it doesn’t matter.??You have done wonders for the place.” He ignored her comment about brign up the past.??He was shocked she actually accepted to help hope.???He said “I appreciate you helping her.??if something happen to her. well I don’t know if I could keep my promise.”

Klaus frowned slightly when bonnie brought up Talia.??He sighed and said “she means a lot to me if you must know.??There is a lot of history. I know what your thinking.???you think I want to use her for hybrids.??I never knew she was back.??Im trying to turn over a new leaf so to speak.??I have made a promise I tend to try and keep.??As much as I would like to make more hybrids to protect hope I will not do so forcefully??if I chose to do that.”

“Can't say that I’m all that concerned with what would make Stefan happy.” Bonnie was still finding it rather difficult to forgive the younger Salvatore brother for what he'd done in spite of his sacrifice because it hadn't changed the fact it was his fault Enzo was dead nor did it erase the image of a hand ripping out his heart right before her eyes from her memory.?

“You really want to be bringing up the past right now?” She asked with one eyebrow raised as reminders of attempts made on the lives of her friends would hardly help his case. If it were simply about him….she would have said ‘go to hell’ and left it at that.?

“I’ll help keep her safe in spite of our past because at the end of the day she's just an innocent little girl.” She hoped agreeing to do so wasn't something she’d soon regret as she hadn't forgotten who it was she was dealing with. Tilting her head a little the Bennett witch decided to ask about something else that concerned her. “What is she to you?” She asked of Tatia naturally worried the woman was seen as an opportunity to create more hybrids.?

Klaus tried to hide how impressed he was with the school. He said as she explained “so I guess you could call this Hogwarts for the Supernatural.” He smirked to himself and contiuned “I do believe my dear departed friend Stefan would be Happy to see what has been done.” He followed Bonnie into the kitchen as he tried to remain focused .??Everything going on and on top of Taila being back has thrown him off.

Klaus took a breath and looked at bonnie as he looked around the kitchen witch seemed to have had some changes done since he was last there. He ran his finger over the counter top and said “I know its a lot given our past. Perhaps my many attempts on you and your friends lives.” Klaus smirked at the memories. He continued “but as you guess I need your help.??My daughter Hope is being attacked. By what we are unsure of. My sister Freya cannot find the source. As skilled as she is we need your help. not only to figure out what is coming after her but to also to protect her. where I cannot.”

Bonnie was doing her best to keep in mind this might be one of those rare instances when he was genuinely here seeking help with something that didn't involve the harming of those ‘near and dear’ to her. “It sort of became like this project for Caroline after the funeral. She and Alaric wanted to create a safe place for those like their girls to be able to learn not only a regular education but how to control their abilities.”

The past year hadn't been an easy one…some were adjusting better than others but she supposed that was to be expected. She led the way into the kitchen where they stood the best chance of not being interrupted at this hour. “So, what is that you need my help with?” The question passed her lips within an instant of turning around as she lightly leaned up against the counter with arms folded above her chest.?

She remembered it being said this would be about protecting his daughter as Hayley had told her that much over the phone.?

Damon gave a harsh laugh.

"Doing something epic is my specialty...However in case you've forgotten who you're talking to, my epic moments aren't usually good. The good guy died," he said, gaze drilling into Lexi's on those last few words.

"Deal with it," he said flippantly after the briefest of pauses in which he hoped his words sunk in.

"I did."

By turning his feelings off. Yet this state while blissfully numb didn't turn off the nagging worry...The questions.

"Humans that fast and strong...I don't like it. Not in this town," he muttered, scuffing a toe on the concrete of the edge of the road, gaze sliding off into the darkness as he frowned.

The two had been frightened, taken aback, but then angry and far too damn fast.

“I would think that curiosity would be a suitable enough reason.” Valerie could think of little else outside of ‘settling the score’ and that wasn't something she intended to bring up around a vampire with their humanity off as things could get seriously bloody.

“So, what if she does?” Lexi saw no point in pretending otherwise. “The girl’s entitled to some anger after what you did.” If she were acting purely on her personal feelings in regards to him she would have let this go but she'd made a promise.?

“But that doesn't mean you're off the hook…that just walking away is the answer to everything. If she means even half of what your brother said she meant to you then you owe it to yourself to go back there…to find out whether what the two of you had can be saved.” She was taking a gamble based on the way he averted his gaze, a gesture that suggested he still cared or at least was bothered by what happened.

“Do something epic. Be the man that Stefan believed you were. He told me that he finally felt he had his brother back and wanted Elena to have the chance to know THAT Damon Salvatore.”

"Why would I want to come into town and reacquaint myself with the Gothic new kids in town," Damon asked silkily.

"That sounds?rather like a good deed to me, and of late I'm not in the business of those...Emotions are off, remember."

He sarcastically held up a chastising finger.

"If they're hunters or Dracula pets, or the devil's children, it's not my problem. I am leaving so whatever they do I won't be here."

His brother was gone and Elena truly safer without him.

"She won't want to see me anyway unless it's to tear my head off. I sort of killed someone close to her...you know how it goes," he said, shrugging carelessly, but the fact he averted his eyes should show that bothered him a little deep down.

Mihnea's green eyes narrowed at Rebecca as he leaned in the doorway.

"You are not the same sort of vampire of which..."His Transilvanian accent grew thicker than usual as he struggled to articulate.

"You are not like me or mine. I have never encountered such as yourself before...Very odd. I understand what you are saying and respect it politically. But these 2 are particularly important to my father for whatever reason and I should put the fear of the vampire king into this one who dares to trifle with that which is not his."

Franceska shot Mihnea a dark look.

"We are not your father's pets. I deal with him because it's usually less headache than killing him."

Mihnea shot her a dark look,then proceeded to ignore her, gaze trained steadily and calmly on Rebecca.

"If you wish to be there, though, that can be arranged," he suggested.

"Is that reasonable?"

?

Renfield also frowned in Mihnea's direction, but kept silent. Enough had already been said and he hardly knew the former master's son, the younger vampire often being out of the country on his own pursuits.

"We should probably like lay low," Felix said with a shrug.

"Unless anything else happens."

?

"I agree," Mihnea said.

"I will do this business with the transgressor quietly and without fanfare."

Max smiled as he listened to her and said “who knows deep down you might still feel that way.??Deep down we never truly lose feeling??they just get buried deep down. A soul and a heart is a fragile thing.” He gently took her hand.??He said “so don’t give up hope.”??He smiled as he watched her pack the first aid kit and left to put it up.?He said “perhaps if that is what you wish.”??He smirked as it seemed alittle flirting was going on between them.

Max smiled and said “well I would do it again in a heart beat.” He laughed and got up and stretched.??She could see his more manly features.??He said “Massive undertaking or not. I will make sure your safe. I would swear my honor on that.”

Rebecca listened and watched.??She wasn’t sure what to think about the two new arrivels.??They were both attractive in their own way. She looked to vlads son.??He said “you need to becareful.??Don’t go starting a fight. Though its interesting to see your abilities in person.??this town has a council or at least used to.??I dunno if they still do. Regardless.??They try to keep peace between the supernatural and humans. They will get involved if need be. Like I told Franceska and renfield.??I know the attacker and I will take care of it. i don’t need a stranger vampire going out half cocked and starting a war with another vampire.”

Klaus nodded to Tatia.??He said “ill see you soon then.”??It was still hard for him to believe she was back.. seeing her was stiring up feeling long forgotten.??He took a deep breath and sighed. He listened to bonnie go off about Damon.??Perhaps he have to pay damon a visit.??He just nodded and said “{lead the way.”??He fallowed Bonnie inside. He looked around as he entered and said “you indeed have made improvements for the better.”??he would like a tour eventually to see what all they had changed.??He followed bonnie.??He hoped she could help hope.??It angered him so that he was powerless to.

"I don't give a damn what he's up to,"Kol reassured, turning around and heading in the opposite direction from where they'd been headed, his hand linked through hers.

"Don't feel badly about not caring. We've both suffered enough over this sort of rubbish and I for one am done...or at least taking a break for a time," he added, knowing?that as he'd live a very long time, never was a big word and could usually make a liar out of anyone who said it.

"Whatever it is they'll manage without us."

He arranged his thoughts as he walked.

"I've got a car...or we can fly...whatever you'd like. I assume you want to stop off in New Orleans first, to give the ole personal touch...or did you just want to call and head for parts unknown directly?"

He of course hoped for the later but would do anything for her including putting up with a certain New Orleans vampire if Davina truly needed to see him.

Davina knew enough about his family from personal experience to possess a strong desire not to be caught up in their latest drama. If ever a reminder of why became necessary there was always the memory of when her one shot at bringing Kol back was hijacked so that his siblings could resurrect their mother instead. “I figured as much.” She said of these people not being his brother’s friends.?

“Bonnie may have told me a few things.” It hadn't taken more than a single day to discover she was among people with just as much, if not more, reason to dislike Klaus in spite of the few instances when he'd come to the rescue whenever a werewolf bite was involved.?

“Then lets just go…get as far way from your brother as we can.” She was naturally concerned about the others though at the same time felt fairly certain the Bennett witch could more than hold her own. “Because honestly…I’m afraid that if we get pulled into whatever it is he’s planning that…” Even as those words left her mouth she almost instantly regretted having brought it up but couldn't stop herself from finishing that thought. “something will separate us again.”

“I know, I know…I should be more worried about whatever it is he’s up to but…”

Valerie grew thoughtful as she considered the question posed as such a ‘relationship’ seemed rather unlikely while not entirely to be ruled out either. “Perhaps…if there was some sort of mutual life sparing one might feel indebted. It is a rather old fashioned concept I suppose considering the state of things.” It was possible this could still apply in the minds of those not ‘of this time’.?

“That is rather…odd.” She didn't particularly care to deal with ‘Rayna Cruz 2.0’ as the first time around seemed rather much like those old Terminator movies as no matter what one did she simply kept coming. “If you're feeling inclined to do so perhaps you could venture into town with us to see if these ‘goth’ people pose any real threat, and if so, to help deal with them properly?” One eyebrow lifted as she awaited his response.

“The devil’s greatest trick was to convince the world he didn't exist.” Lexi countered as she wasn't quite prepared to rule out the possibility of his existence based on the fact some Irishman had decided to write a book which was later turned into a whole slew of movies.?

“Lestat de Lioncourt would be a way hotter choice. Just saying.” Through the centuries she had on more than one occasion crossed paths with vampires who instead of building up their own reputations claim to be others whether real or fictional.

“You forgetting the whole her blood could still potentially be the highly sought after cure or status as a Petrova doppelg?nger which could be like catnip to witches?”

"Why would someone like Rayna claim to be working for...someone like Dracula. Surely a hunter would have someone like that on the top of their kill list rather than claiming to work for them," Damon said, gaze on Valerie.

For the moment she was the least annoying of the 2 and the one who made him feel the least uncomfortable or on edge. With a sigh, he leaned against the car, expression a mix of thoughtful and annoyed. Apparently this needed dealing with or at least being considered.

"I...Was going to snack on this couple on the way out of town," he began almost casually.

"They were unknowns coming in...Goth looking you know...Sort of amused me. So I step out in front of their long sleek black car and when they pop out to yell at me I get ready for dinner and they...manage to unhandd themselves without working hard then toss Dracula's name at me."

He scowled when Lexi mentioned how he'd not believed Klaus existed at first.

"Well no one's making movies about him yet. The entire Stoker crap is obviously made up," he concluded contemptuously.

?

"At the very least, someone, some other powerful vampire, is pretending to be Dracula to impress his mortal pets...And if he id happen to be one of Klaus's I'd not be surprised," he concluded dryly, eyes narrowing in speculation.

"Yep...sounds way more likely. Either way...Don't you dare bring Elena into this...He, whoever he is, would have no reason to go after her...and thanks to me getting the hell out of town, no one will know I would care if they did, so she can't be hurt because of me."

He was unable to keep the hard edge of determination from his tone as he spoke his final words. Elena would be far safer with him at least half way across the world.

“You sure about that?” Lexi inquired with one eyebrow lifted at how quick he'd been to rule out the existence of someone so infamous. “I mean, according to Stefan there was a time you both thought a certain Original Hybrid was just a myth, and yet, him and his entire family showed on your doorstep. Figuratively speaking. So, tell me…are you certain enough to gamble with Elena’s life?”

She'd heard whispers through the centuries that suggested the man could be quite real and that was enough to cause concern. Of course, odds are Dracula wouldn't have the same interest in Elena as the before mentioned Mikaelson had but there was always the seduction angle. Bottom line being she hoped to ignite even the smallest spark of concern in the elder Salvatore.?

“No. Never. Why do you ask?” She didn't hold out much hope that he'd prove her old friend right about the man he'd become or even that he'd stick around.?

“Closest thing to someone like that I have ever seen was…Rayna Cruz, who was not ‘completely mortal’ what with the multiple lives and all.” Valerie knew he’d encountered the Huntress and his brother was ‘marked’ due to saving him. But if memory served her last life was transferred to Bonnie a few years back.

She didn't particularly care to entertain the thought of someone else ‘picking up the sword’ as it were or anyone recreating that bloody Phoenix stone.?

Damon froze, stunned briefly, expression quickly fading into a scowl.

"There is no such thing as Dracula," he bit out, trying? to forget the tall dark haired girl's claim earlier before he'd nearly made her dinner. Her and that odd little man...both mortal with warm pumping blood in their necks just calling to him...yet both somehow different for all that with such unnatural speed and strength. And if the little man's hair had been black rather than white, he could've been a little Renfield like so many movie cast types down to the old fashioned black and white suit.

He was unwittingly staring blankly at Lexi as he was lost in his thoughts.

"Have either of you ever seen humans that? were very fast and very strong yet completely mortal," he asked, voice calm and a bit careful.

Though he wasn't about to start believing in Dracula the thing was a concern especially when Lexi dared to bring Elena into it, a thing he would never? admit to her. He'd not give her the satisfaction or himself the discomfort.

Lexi inclined her head with a semi bored expression on her face when an attempt at intimidation was made. It was not at all surprising as the elder Salvatore brother had always been the cocky one.?

“To be perfectly honest…I don't bloody care what's got you so rattled.” Valerie refused to waste the effort on someone so hellbent on making enemies of those who reached to them despite having every reason to wish them dead.?

“Taking a stroll down memory lane, really? I don't think you want to go there.” Lexi stated rather pointedly with a coldness in her eyes few had ever witnessed or even thought in her nature. “Need I remind you that I have two centuries on you?” She tried for Stefan's sake not to do anything one might consider payback for the stake driven through her heart nearly a decade ago.

“Lets be honest….my friendship with your brother is the ONLY reason I’m trying to help you at all.” One glance across the roof of the car told her that her traveling companion was hardly going to ‘beg and plead’ with him either.?

She couldn't help looking amused at his reaction to the bat. “Maybe your little friend there is a sign that Dracula is coming for ‘sleeping beauty’.” The blonde, of course, was referring to Elena. “Could make for an epic love story.”

Tatia couldn't deny she had concerns about what having a conversation with him might entail given their history. But there were also all the stories to be taken into consideration as well regardless of how difficult it was to reconcile them with the memory of him. “I think we should.”

Bonnie started to say she didn't think it was a good idea what with their ‘complicated’ history but got distracted by the mention of Damon. “I think someone kicking his ass might speed up things up a bit.” She was still furious with him over how he handled things with Elena.

“Bon…” Elena said shaking her head.?

“No. Just no.” Bonnie said putting a stop to whatever her friend was about to say in his defense. “We all lost someone last year. But you know what? We did what sane people do…turn to the people who care about us…not shut them out.” It was just like his decision to let himself desiccate hidden away in a coffin all over again. No thought of anyone other than himself.?

“No matter what I had done if someone called and told me that Enzo was back…I would be breaking every speed limit to get to him…not running away.” The witch drew a deep breath, trying to hide the sadness in her eyes when she spoke of him. Her words ones that she needed to be saying to Damon only he wasn't here and it was doubtful he could be gotten on the phone again. But next time she saw him…

Giving a small nod she rose to her feet leaving the comfortable wicker chair behind. “Yeah, we should probably do that.” She almost instantly regretted having said those things, only because it had been in front of Elena, and made a mental note to apologize for that later. She moved away from the others knowing he’d follow.

Elena kept quiet in spite of the hurt those words caused, mostly because he hadn't done that…he hadn't even said so much as a goodbye. Swallowing after a moment trying to keep in mind how close her friend had gotten with Damon in the last few years and how much pain his actions caused her as well.?
