¡°They were spelled by Bonnie's ancestor back in the 1800s.¡± Elena still lived with the memory of what dying once too often while wearing one of those rings had done to Alaric. People had gotten hurt or worse as a result. But maybe it didn't always have to end that way¡or would it always because of the sense of ¡®invincibility¡¯ it bestowed on the wearer making them far more reckless.
¡°The two rings that are in existence only protect humans. I don't know if it's possible that one could be created that would protect the supernatural.¡± She drew a breath as she thought of what she remembered of them. ¡°I never put it to the test for obvious reasons but I am reasonably certain that being a doppelg?nger they wouldn't protect me either.¡±
She shrugged. ¡°It might all boil down to that.¡± It couldn't be ruled out that it was a form of hypnosis turned inward as she doubted anyone, even the Mikaelsons fully understood it. ¡°To me¡it just seems like it's taking the easy way out and I know that sounds considering what I did but¡¡± It went without saying her situation had been a little different as the choice hadn't been hers to make.
Her eyes moved to the window instinctively at the mention of almost being there. It was strange how the idea could be exciting while at the same time managing to frighten her. Maybe it was not knowing how this would all turn out or whether she was mistaken in trusting the word of her kidnapper. ¡°I always thought if I ever got to travel it would be with Damon.¡±
