7x12 Motor Won't Turn On

Had a crash awhile back while using a milling bit on my Grizzly 7x12 mini lathe.? Motor stalled and fuse blew.? I put in a new fuse, but motor won't run.? Are there any other circuit breakers/fuses that could be the problem?? Or, am I looking at a blown motor? |

The first test I would do is to disconnect the motor and see if there is power coming out of the driver board. ?For that, you should replace the motor with some kind of dummy load and measure the voltage. ?If the power seems good, the motor is bad, but if the power is not good, it is one of the output transistors. ? They are cheap but you have to know what you are doing There are a few other parts that can blow as a result of the fuse or mosfet blowing. ?? Or if you are EXCEPTIONALLY lucky, a loose connection. |
开云体育??? I believe ya can test the motor by hittin it with a good cordless tool battery . Are these boards SMT or they still through-hole ? boards ? animal On 6/12/24 7:17 PM, Chris Albertson

Yes, that's the lathe.? Pulled the brushes and they are both about an inch long - I'm assuming it is not the brushes.

开云体育ya could pull the motor & hook a volt meter to the leads & spin it with a drill & see if ya get any voltage out . I'd try to see if it spins with a tool battery first . animal On 6/12/24 7:53 PM, Arthur Coe wrote:

开云体育??? Unplug the machine , label all the wires to the board & double check a few time than pull the board & start looking for burnt components & give the board the sniff test . Sometime yer nose can find the bad part . animal On 6/12/24 7:53 PM, Arthur Coe wrote:

Problem solved.? It was operator stupidity.? I had pushed the emergency shut off button down before I replaced the fuse.? Forgot to open it back up.? Argggggg!? Oh well, at least I didn't start full scale disassembly.

开云体育??? Look at it this way , ya were just testing the emergency
switch which a guy/gal should do every once in a while & it
passed . Glad i was something simple . yea that's it animal On 6/12/24 9:59 PM, Arthur Coe wrote:

I had problems with motors in 1970's when hot like is today.

The way was resolved was to add more cooling. Either do not use your mini lathe over 90°F or add cooling fans. I even had running water on some motors outside so could use motor in heat. I know does not help after you problem by can help others before they loose there motor. Hand drill motors was problem no way to keep them very close to the mini lathe motor. I could only repair them and hope coils did not burn. Dave On Wed, Jun 12, 2024 at 06:18 PM, Arthur Coe wrote: Had a crash awhile back while using a milling bit on my Grizzly 7x12 mini lathe.?
