Re: Direct Reading cross feed dial.
Another approach is treating the dial markings as approximations of actual cut depth, since they don't compensate for machine flex, backlash & general entropy of the universe ;-)

Re: Extension cross slide
A lathe basically is just a horizontal milling machine and with the right
setups and/or attachments it to can be used as a milling machine. Just as
you have stated in your post.

Re: Vevor motor
To avoid leaving abrasive particles in the motor, filing is preferable to sanding. If you must sand, use old style, "flint" sandpaper; the? abrasive is not electrically conductive. The mica

Re: Extension cross slide
For any what to this you do not need a mill
Here photo in chuck for flat.
Note drill after you turn it flat as hard to line in a three jaw chuck.

Re: Vevor motor
I look at the brushes and sand the comutator.
It can happen on motors that are used a lot to but just sitting will do too.
On will used some times you need to file between the copper plates I like use

Re: Vevor motor
The lathe sat for a while when I got it but it was in a reasonably dry basement. I did look at the brushes and they didn't look too bad. One had worn in well and the other was getting there.

Re: Bind threading
I operated a 10 inch South Bend Precision Model for a long time.? Threading results were superb.
The thread stop doesn't mean you take a single cut.? You still take multiple cuts.? All it does is

Re: Bind threading
When first lath my father had a less experience that most have here.
So trial and error learning. We set compound to 29.5¡ã and that how we did threading.
When I got Mori Seki Lathe in 1976 on the

Vevor motor
I bought the 7x14 Vevor? lathe with the 550w DC motor a will back. The motor doesn't have much power. I can stall it with my bare hands by grasping the 4" chuck. Is there a easy way to check out the

Actually, the original design was for neither of those purposes.? It was for setting each increment when using just the cross slide to cut threads.? Not as a full depth stop if moving in at

And that means exactly nothing.? It is rotatable and just happens to be in that position.? It rotates so that it CAN be used in different positions.? Not to be put in that position and left there

Direct Reading cross feed dial.
Here is way of way having direct read dials on mini lathe.
If have a 20 TPI cross feed screw.
One turn is 0.050" some most lathes have a Graduated Dial, 50 Divisions. For direct reading you need a

Re: Bind threading
I can see how that can be confusing.
If you are threading using ONLY the cross slide, the "thread stop" can be used as a limit for the depth of the thread cut.? That's pretty straight forward.
But

But not compound angle also a thread stop for same lathe can only be straight in. This where it gets confusing new at using a lathe.
