Agree with mike in snowy Kansas.
All kinds of materials are machined.
Wood is nothing of a mess compared to phenolic.
Consider using a vacuum when working with messy material.

Re: A new (and slightly off) topic
Just my 2? worth this morning.....
I really don't think this thread is off-topic.? We are talking about machining different materials on a mini-lathe. Does it really matter what the material is??

Yes I do that SOME of the time. The problem is I keep forgetting to make a copy. Other software, like text editors don't do that, so I only have to remember when using online

Thanks Bruce, that is what I thought. Now has anyone built a drive with

No. That article was just about adding a power feed to the mini-mill. You need stepper motors or servo motors for CNC, because you need to maintain absolute known position.

Evan, just select the text you have already written and copy it to your
clipboard. Then when you are done looking for whatever, just come back and
paste what you had written. I do it all the time.

I probably should have mentioned you generally want higher speeds for milling wood. Turning on the 7x12 isn’t too bad (a little too slow for small diameter stuff like pens), but there’s quite a
