However, I ended up buying a few of the square tool posts from Grizzly like the one that came with the lathe.
That gives me potentially 12 pre-setup, pre-shimmed

Since he needs to go up only 1/2" you would not be able to get that short of offset without moving the radiator forward or back or raising it even with two 45 street ells.

What you are dealing with is called an ¡°offset¡±. The easy solution here would be to add two 45 degree elbows, street elbows, and/or the appropriate length nipples between the valve

The threads in pipe will be difficult to remove most time. The good news most of the pipe dope was lead it helps.
