Okay we all got pretty much the same saw.
It's an amazing little machine but it just cuts stuff. What do you do with the stuff you cut ? I cut and weld a lot 1 1/2" sq. 16ga. tubing. (I get it free) I've made a welding table, a patio table, wood rack, a bench to mount my clays thrower, saw stand to replace the sheet metal one that came with my saw, and a bunch of other things. Anybody making money with their saw ? Production work ? Auto feed ? Who's got projects going ? Who's using the vertical ? Whatcha cuttin ? Any tips ? |

I therefore use the 4x6 Bandsaw to cut stock for machining processes. I work with Steel, Stainless, Brass, Bronze, Aluminum, Phenolics, Teflon and the range of synthetics. The Bandsaw just about cuts it all. Modifications: Recirculating Coolant System, Worklamp?and Lenox Bi-Metal Blade .....See the photos section.? Project on the bench now: I am?building a CNC Universal 3-axis table. Initially this table will do panel engraving so I can produce my own labeled panels. Later, it will also accommodate a Plasma Cutter head or a Router. It's just about done save for some wiring to be completed before the "smoke test". Well, it's just a saw... but before one came into my life... every
project that I wanted to developed ran into a road block... all my stock was larger than the pieces I needed... and the prospect of hacksawing a 2" piece of steel was daunting... so the project would just be something I would tackle someday... but now, I know I can cut the stock to size with little effort... so now, if I ever get around to it... Happiness is knowing you have the tools to make something... 8-) Leo (pearland, tx) |

Steel for knife blades I try and make (poorly..)
Micarta for the handles, sometimes wood. Stock for turning projects. A few times wood for home improvement projects when I needed a narrower cut than the table saw would make. What do you do with the stuff you cut ?I own a company that makes ceiling mounted O scale (Lionel size) train layouts. I cut up to 1,000 pcs of 3/8" square tube to make 1 bridge. I also do custom wrought iron work sometimes cutting 300 pcs a day of bar stock. I have a whole pile of cutting aids to guage the cuts with so all the parts are the same length. The big chunk of steel I cut is for a home made milling machine I am making to cut spur gears. I think these saws are the best thing going I hated them in 1984 but I had a 9x12 Ridgid bandsaw to use..Bob |

Knife making is cool !
I see a lot of custom knives in one of the mags I read, American Handgunner. The prices I see are way out of my budget but they sure are beautiful to look at. Best I can do for now is a Benchmade a Kershaw and a half dozen or so Bucks and nonames. I'd love to see your work. If you have pics you can send them to me off board if you like. Do you have one of those power hammers. Saw you in action on TV once - awesome ! |

Hello Cletus, I see you are located in Belmont on
the lovely islands of Trinidad and Tobago.
Your facility certainly sounds very good indeed and
you keep very active on projects.
My metal working shop supports my wood machinery in
making special tools and spindles and the 4x6 is in constant use. Presently
thinking of trying out a carbide tipped blade.
I will look for you on the Africana Net on 21.335
MHz at 1700 Zulu. Have you mounted your tri band antenna to the tower
yet?

Cut 4" x 4" square steel tubing (3/16" walls) for my neighbor's travel trailer bumper. Cut aluminum plate and bars for various projects (like to work with aluminum) Brass and steel bars as needed. As for as using the saw in the vertical position, I made a game piece out of 1/8" stainless steel plate. This "train" spinner is about 8" in diameter, and has rectangular cut-outs around the perimeter and one in the center. (cut-outs fit domino pieces) This was tough, wore out a carbon steel blade doing it. (made me appreciate bi-metal) I had no bi-metal with the teeth close enough for the thin metal. The one feature that I like the most is the fact that you can cut the stock almost to the exact size. (when i used my old hacksaw, i allowed 1/8" for crooked cuts) Leo (pearland, tx) |
