What Should We Do About Group Storage? #poll-notice

We seem to be running low on storage space: Free groups are limited to 1GB, where Premium groups have 20GB of storage. Free groups are, of course, free. Premium groups cost $200/year (paid yearly), or $20/month. ($240/year paid monthly)

Well, that didn't quite work like I intended, but it's created. I was going to put more possible answers, and suddenly I was back to the main group screen. I've voted, and I will contribute. I figure that I'm not that well known on this group, so someone else should be in charge of collecting and applying the contributions to upgrading the group. Owner would be best, IMHO.?

The one paid group I own, I have paid annually on one of my personal credit cards. I also have several co-owners who have the same rights and priviledges I have. Any one of them could take over the group, so it should be someone known and trusted by the other owners.?

1. Keep the group free.
2. Make the group a paid group, and I will contribute to paying for it.
3. Make the group a paid group, but I will not contribute.
4. I'm a lurker, but I will contribute/

Do not reply to this message to vote in the poll. You can vote in polls only through the group's website.

Hi guys
I voted to keep the group free since I think it should be unrestricted but if that's not possible, then I'd certainly pay my dues

Please count me in, too.

Well, we've had 32 people including myself take the poll. Less than 1% of the group. I thank those of you who took the time to vote, even if you don't want to contribute. I've looked at the photos, and I'm not seeing much of anything I think should not be preserved. IIRC, we have over 4300 members. If you lurk, or participate, but have not yet taken the poll, would you please do so??

I cannot do this by myself. Joe cannot do it by himself. We need some help here, folks! And if you have photos in an album that you don't think we need on the group anymore, would you please remove them? If you cannot get them to go, tell me about in a private email and I'll try to do it for you. You can email me at wmrmeyers (at) sbcglobal (dot) net or (at) yahoo (dot) com

I’m a long time lurker.

I don’t see how to contribute some money. ?Let me know and I’ll paypal some over.

I am one of the 32. I voted to keep it free as a simple resource.
?I have had a look at some of the photos from a size perspective. I have only looked at about 60 photos of goodness know how many and I note that the amount of room that photos take up ranges from 56Kb to 2.4Mb. The photos at 56Kb are blurry?or grainy?and therefore of limited value. The photos?in the range of 2.4Mb are of no better quality on my screen?than the ones at about 150Kb in size. From a resource perspective, 150Kb is all you need to visualize someone's work to improve their saws. I would not be happy to remove someone's photos they have seen fit to share, but, I would condone replacing them with much smaller sized versions. This will allow a significant number of additional photos to be stored.

As Dave alludes to the group needs agressive weeding of pointless pictures and useless postings. This thread will be valueless in two months and should be deleted.?I don't know how it is done but I would be prepared to help with that.
The value of this and the old Yahoo group has only ever been as a file cache for upgrade and repair data, manuals etc?along with the necessary instructions in associated threads. For general advice and chit chat, especially off topic, there are much better vehicles in the HSM and Model engineer forums. For mindless 'ooh look I''ve got one' banality there is probably a Facebook group.

Maybe google drive for photos and docs would be an option... linked, stickied, granted authority for anyone to alter/add/remove. 15g free I believe. I appreciate everyone here who is contributing and managing this group, it’s an excellent resource albeit for a very cheap machine that is owned generally by people who can’t afford a better one that wouldn’t need mods and alterations, myself included. If I have to pay on this group I likely won’t stay, it’s antithetical to the whole reason I joined to start. I needed a meta cutting bandsaw and couldn’t afford a more quality piece so I bought the hf version and immediately needed to make some mods which were all essentially time and labor. The way I see it, if you have the saw you’re likely able to fabricate on some level and almost certainly have the skills to figure out anything on this machine, it’s a very simple setup. All due respect of course, there is certainly a time saving aspect of following someone’s advise or mimicking a design but IMO it’s just simply not worth paying for. Thanks for everything you guys do and I hope everything works out in the best possible way for everyone.?

I do not and will not use Facebook.? Someone else will have to do that if it's how the group decides to go. I have been told by several people that the Facebook format is not good for a group like ours. It works better for current events and idle chitchat, but is difficult to find older info in. I don't know that from personal experience, however.

Some one said….“NO to Facebook. They're in the censoring business.“

?

They are not in the “censoring business”, and nothing that would BELONG in this group is ever likely to be censored even if they were.

But I would also say no to “FB”, but because they are essentially useless, unless you are using their “APP”. {And perhaps if you are using it too.}
