开云体育My 4x6 saw is a?? "BuffalO" brand with a
date tag of 1983.? It is pretty much the same as all the other 4 x 6 saws
I've seen, cast guide brackets, etc.???? The 6 bearings in
the guides are "NMB #608Z"? and they are identical to the razor scooter
wheel bearings.? Any advice of guide roller spacing?

It has the cast blade guides. I am not sure what you mean about the adjuster knob. I looked in the gear box to check for sand in the oil. The gear box is a die cast part so there not is any sand casting sand in there. I have already done some of the modifications that appear on the site. I have ordered the Surplus Center cylinder and bought a fountain pump that HF had on sale for a coolant pump. The pump was on sale for less than $10.00 and it pumps water just fine. HF has a 6" digital caliper on sale for $19.99 in the store and it looks great. Good Luck with you saw. Chip Hi everyoneof time. Looking to buy
Hi everyone
I'm new, you'll be able to tell from my question. I'm trying to work out the best deal on my 4x6 saw purchase so I've been reading the archives to answer my questions on my own but I'm running out of time. I kind of live in a remote area and have someone going to the "city" that can pick up a HF version for me tomorrow. (I'm trying to avoid shipping costs.) The HF is on sale for $170.00 (not much of a sale as compared to what I've read about so far in archives. (Insidentally, the same sales flyer has a 12" stainless digital caliper price marked $19.99! Most likely a type-o because the web sight said it was on sale for $49.99.)) Anyway, the HF flyer I'm referring to has a photo of the bandsaw with the cast metal guides and lower adjuster knob that were not on previous HF units. Did HF update thier saw to that of Enco, Grizzly ect.? I would much rather have a saw of this type rather than the one on the HF site. Another question...Does Homier still sell the bandsaw? I can't find it on their site. This is kind of a long post for the first one. I'm new to this hobby so these type of groups have helped me alot. I've also got a mini-mill and lathe and I must say that I'm truely amazed with some of the projects you guys do. |
Re: Replacement blade guide bearings
Bob: On second inspection ,the eccentric part is just a thin sleeve with the
spindle of the bearing pressed in. It may in fact be a standard size cam follower bearing. Tony, these are not ball bearings they are needle bearings riding on the threaded spindle. Not replaceable accept as a unit. Spindle and all. So basically what you guys are saying is that the cam follower type bearing is no longer used on the import saws. |
Re: Replacement blade guide bearings
Bob Loesch
OK, Thanks Carey. I stand corrected!
However, if you've got the number off of the bearing, you should still be able to get them at any decent bearing shop, even if they have to order them. That's the neat thing about bearings (needle, roller, or ball): they're the only thing I've ever seen with what approaches world-wide standardization! This is correct . . K-Mart had the identical
bearing for cheap.
?
Bearing adjustment:? When using good .025
" thick blades, what is consensus best setting for the guide bearing
spacing?? I was tempted to set them closer than .025 but I was afraid that
repeated runing under pressure might distort the blade.

Re: Replacement blade guide bearings
Bob: The guide bearings on my machine are needle bearing. They are like cam
follower bearings but with an eccentric shaft used for tension adjustments. While I was out in the shop to check the bearings(i did take one apart) I wrote down the specifics on the ID plate. It has a Duracraft decal and model# HBS 348 made in 1984 serial # 006119. Made in Taiwan on the ID plate. It is what Home Depot sold 20 years ago. |
Re: Replacement blade guide bearings
Bob Loesch
I might be wrong in this, but I believe that the bearings themselves are ordinary ball bearings with their number marked on them. Any bearing shop should be able to provide quality replacements.
Also, I seem to recall someone telling us that standard in-line skate wheel bearings make good inexpensive replacements, or am I 'remembering' incorrectly? (I suffer from CRS... "Can't Remember S...") ";-) At 10:22 AM 2/11/2004, Carey Culpepper wrote: Anyone know of a good source of replacement blade guide bearings? The onesRegards, Bob |

Re: saw capabilities

You can tell cast iron arms, they extend from the
under side of the saw head, while the alum. are on the out side of the saw head. If you look thru the picture folders you will see what I'm talking about. Finding this Group just a few days ago, has given me the encouragement to make some of the badly needed modifications mentioned. Thanks to all. Tom M. |
