Re: Fundraising to switch to groups.io was Re: ATTENTION: Yahoo discontinuing group files, photos, messages, etc.

Here is the Groups.io transfer instructions link:

/yahootransfer

*All* transfers require the 1-year Premium account payment of $110. This
was instituted several months ago. If your group has less than 1 GB of
files, attachments & photos you can revert back to a free account. The
safe deadline to initiate a transfer is December 1st.

Also note, there has been some problem at Yahoo with accessing some
groups' photos so it's possible they could take longer or not be
possible to transfer in time.

As far as I can tell, we are a little under the 1GB limit.? And I
suspect that a lot of the photos could be cleaned out to give us more
room.? But, as I understand it, if you go with the the smaller paid
account, groups.io will take care of moving the data and membership over.

I am in a couple of groups that migrated a couple of years ago and it is
totally transparent to the user.? They just have to remember to change
the email address if they originate a new message (replies go to the new

Thank you to Joe and Walter for setting up this new group. I've sent a message to support on groups.io to see if there is anyway of implementing a system for group uses to donate directly to the running of the premium service on groups.io for their specific mailing list. I'm assuming collecting the funding is a problematic issue for a lot of public information groups like ours and it would be in groups.io best interest if they could provide a solution to help. I'll let you know if I get any replies.

Thanks again.

Re: ATTENTION: Yahoo discontinuing group files, photos, messages, etc.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I have been out of town for the past several days and have not yet caught up with the back emails.? Probably someone else has already pointed this out, but there is already a place where the entire Group can be moved, including files, photos and posts all of the way back to the beginning.? The site is groups.io and they have three ¡°tiers¡± of membership, based on how much storage space is needed.? The first tier, which is either 0.5 gb or 1.0 gb (reason that I can¡¯t recall is that one group that I helped move was comfortably below 0.5 and another was above 1.0)? but anyway, the smallest is free.? The next is in round numbers $10/month.? Then there is a third significantly more expensive.? For the larger of the two groups, I ¡°passed the hat¡± and got enough donations to cover the monthly cost for more than five years.? For the smaller, we didn¡¯t need to so didn¡¯t.? Anyway, you basically must be an Owner of the Yahoo group that is to be moved.? They ask you to add a Member (name provided by them) and give ¡°him¡± certain Moderator rights.? The owner applies for membership at groups.io and adds and sets up a group.? When he/she has everything set up, including the tier size details, groups.io is notified and in a few days, they copy everything in the old group to the new one, including all of the members except as I recall any who were in either the Bouncing or the Banned lists.? Then the Owner logs into the old group on Yahoo and locks it down so that no orphan posts, files or photos are later added to the old group.? When we moved the largest group, it took groups.io two tries to get it all, thanks to Yahoo problems.? But we did get it all.

Hi guys,

?

Yahoo's finally kicking us out!??

It's been a nice long run.? Way back when I started this it was just to keep all my notes and maybe see if anyone else had a few more.? Turns out a lot of you do.??As the "owner" of this group, I've requested a download of the data.? At some point when that arrives, I will see what all it actually contains and send an update if that's the whole shebang or whatnot.??

As I'm not as involved in the machining world anymore, I'm pretty open to what happens next.? If there's a place everyone wants to ship things off to, great.? Or I can forward a copy of the relevant data to somewhere or upload to google drive or....?? We have a bit of time to figure it out.??

Anyways, thank you all for stopping by, and feel free to stick around until they actually want to boot us for sure and lock the doors.??

May your cuts all be straight and true,?

Ryan

Re: ATTENTION: Yahoo discontinuing group files, photos, messages, etc.

since I am really slow at this is there a way to retain everyone's files for later reference?
I have learned a lot here but still so much to pick up.

how do I save all these to file?

thank you
