Caution: another spam message using Karin's name
2
I received a message this morning from an email zencenter03@gmail from "Karin Ryuku" It was titled "Greetings Merilee Schultheiss,"asking me to do something discreet, not to call beause she is going into a meeting, and signed with her full name, as spiritual director. Poor grammar also gives it away. I reported it as spam and have blocked the sender.

2025 Gathas Introduction
5
Dear Sangha; As we head into 2025, Martin and I will be sharing Gathas from a wonderful collection by Th¨ªch Nh?t H?nh, Present Moment Wonderful Moment. Gatha comes from ¡°a Sanskrit word meaning a verse of poetry." We offer these as part of a Mindfulness practice. From the forward of Present Moment Wonderful Moment, Sister Chan Duc writes: ¡°We entrust [the gathas] to memory so that they can arise without effort as we go about our daily tasks in order to stay with what we are doing.¡± This collection of Gathas can be used as you complete daily tasks: getting up, brushing teeth, turning on the light, and on and on; always returning and dwelling within the present moment. Happy New Year! Gassho,Connie and Martin Nh?t H?nh, Th¨ªch. Present Moment Wonderful Moment (Revised Edition): Verses for Daily Living-Updated Third Edition. Parallax Press, 2022.

Zen Peacemakers Activity - Metro Caring Food Bank - 12/19/2024
Hi everyone, We had a large group of 8 volunteers who supported the mission of Metro Caring Food Bank yesterday afternoon. Before starting our shift - Assistant Teacher Bill Hamaker led us in a Council Circle practice. The the three tenets of Zen Peacemakers - not knowing, bearing witness, and taking action - were quite present for me throughout our experience. Not knowing how we would be used to meet the needs of community members and not knowing their stories - but having a patience to embrace the experience as it unfolded. Bearing witness to the suffering in the world by putting aside our own selfish needs and desires for a few hours to support those in our community suffering with hunger. Taking action through sorting fruits and vegetables, restocking the produce area, checking in and checking out community members, and sweeping floors. Doing something constructive in the face of the fear and uncertainty many of us feel in the current political situation. The warehouse manager Gray took a few moments at the end of our shift to acknowledge our group for the patience, intentionality, care for the quality of our work, and benefit of our experience in making our time very productive and rewarding for they/them. Thanks to everyone for coming out yesterday afternoon. We are signed up for the third Thursday afternoon shift every other month in 2025 - so our next volunteer opportunity is on February 20th. Gassho, David

Metro Caring Volunteers Needed - December 19 Afternoon Shift
9
Hello Sangha, As part of our Zen Peacemaker Affiliate social activism, we are scheduled to serve at the Metro Caring Food Bank Denver warehouse on December 19 from 12:00 PM to 3:30 PM as a group of 4-6 people. Metro Caring is an anti-hunger organization that serves on many fronts. No prior training is required. Our ZCD team typically assists in the storeroom by unpacking boxes and stocking shelves for clients. If you haven't attended before, please sign the volunteer waiver using this link; it will be sent directly to Metro Caring, so there's no need to download or print anything. If you have already signed the waiver, there is no need to sign it again. Please remember that all volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes, as we will be working in an active warehouse. Wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting a little dirty. Additionally, Metro Caring asks that volunteers refrain from parking in the Metro Caring lot to keep it available for community members. Parking instructions are attached to this email. If possible, please allow time for parking and walking to arrive by 11:40 a.m. at the gray volunteer doors located on the southeast corner of the building adjacent to the parking lot. We will have a short council circle prior to going in to get instructions from the staff. Let me know if you plan to volunteer on that day and feel free to reach out if you have any questions. In addition to replying to this message ¨C you can reach me by phone or text at 720-671-0960. Gassho, David Gibson
