Concert 3
As many of you know, I have the great pleasure of playing French horn in the Lone Tree Symphony Orchestra celebrating its 25th season at the Lone Tree Arts Center. Our first concert is September 27 with Beethoven¡¯s ¡°Pastoral¡± Symphony (remember Fantasia?), alongside the spirited rhythms of Dvorak¡¯s Carnival Overture and Lehar¡¯s Gold and Silver Waltz, and the exotic melodies of Borodin¡¯s In the Steppes of Central Asia. Tickets are on sale and we are already half sold out! Love seeing sangha at concerts so I hope you will come. -- Bill Hamaker (he, him)

New Coordinator for Metro Caring, Garden Overflow Dropoff 8
Hi everyone, I'm excited to share that I will be take over coordination duties for our volunteering efforts at Metro Caring food bank as part of Zen Peacemakers International engagement. Our next date will be November 7 or 14 from 12 noon - 3 pm. I will circle back when I have the date nailed down and as we get closer. We are typically looking for 4-6 volunteers. I learned at our last visit a few weeks ago that Metro Caring can accept fruits and vegetables from our home gardens. No appointment is needed. You just need to show up at their loading dock during their open hours. If folks have overflow from your gardens and don't want the food to go to waste - the best way to deal with this would be for everyone to drop stuff off at a designated sitting at ZCD so that one person can collect everything and take it to Metro Caring versus all of us going individually. I would be happy to organize this and do the drop off - but I am traveling heavily over the next 3 weeks and it will be too late by the time I return. Is anyone interested in taking this on? You can call or text me at 720-671-0960 so that we can work out the details. Please let me know if you have any questions. Looking forward to getting a group together for our next volunteer date in November. Gassho, David

Volunteer Opportunity at Metro Caring - September 12 12
Hello Sangha, As part of our Zen Peacemaker Affiliate social activism, we are scheduled to serve at the Metro Caring Food Bank Denver warehouse on September 12 from 12:00 PM to 3:30 PM as a group of 4-6 people. Metro Caring is an anti-hunger organization that serves on many fronts. No prior training is required. Our ZCD team typically assists in the storeroom by unpacking boxes and stocking shelves for clients. If you haven't attended before, please sign the volunteer waiver using this link; it will be sent directly to Metro Caring, so there's no need to download or print anything. If you have already signed the waiver, there is no need to sign it again. Please remember that all volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes, as we will be working in an active warehouse. Wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting a little dirty. Additionally, Metro Caring asks that volunteers refrain from parking in the Metro Caring lot to keep it available for community members. Parking instructions are attached to this email. If possible, please allow time for parking and walking to arrive by 11:40 a.m. at the gray volunteer doors located on the southeast corner of the building adjacent to the parking lot. We will have a short council circle prior to going in to get instructions from the staff. Let me know if you plan to volunteer on that day and feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Yours in the dharma, Bill Hamaker (he/him)

Bearing Witness - Our tendency in life is to avoid things that frighten us (Alumni)
Dear Sangha Siblings and fellow ZCD ZPI Affiliate members, The Auschwitz Bearing Witness Retreat is the core event among all the social justice practices and activities developed by Bernie Glassman and the Zen Peacemakers International. Karin Roshi has done this retreat in the past, sangha member Greg Clark intends to go this year and some of the members (from Germany and Poland) in my Cohort 3 in the Zen Peacemaker Order have expressed their intention to go this year. There is more info on the ZPI website or you can contact me with questions about anything concerning ZPI. Our tendency in life is to avoid things that frighten us. But in order to become whole, we need to go deeper and deeper into ourselves by reaching further into the things we fear. The Holocaust was the state-sponsored persecution and mass murder of millions of European Jews, Romani people, the intellectually disabled, political dissidents and homosexuals by the German Nazi regime between 1933 and 1945. Adolf Hitler¡¯s ¡°Final Solution¡± came to fruition during World War II, with mass killing centers in concentration camps. About six million Jews and some five million others, targeted for racial, political, ideological, and behavioral reasons, died in the Holocaust¡ªmore than one million of those who perished were children. Join us in Poland to bear witness to this horror. November 17 - 23, 2024 CLICK HERE TO REGISTER CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO
