...so sad to hear this news...the physical has ceased to exist in this reality, but oh boy can you feel his spirit in those recordings...I think everyone was amused by Wayne anecdotal way of communicating verbally, yet didn't that make you feel his musical communication feel? more direct...
...its a sad day - rememberring the live shows and listening to my audience recordings today... RIP Wayne Shorter... I will miss you...? |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýAt several occasions, the thought crossed my mind that he wouldn't last long now and I always hurried to wipe the thought out, tried to quickly think of something else. Now it is reality and it hurts! I always felt that - as composer - Wayne was way too much overseen and didn't really get 100% recognition, compared to the size and depth of his work. From the Jazz Messengers to his own quartet with Blade, Patitucci and Perez, what a road, what a life filled with musical treasures! Beautiful, quirky compositions, splendid mind channelled via his haunting playing .... damn, it hurts, RIP Wayne, Joe is already smiling at you and ready for an eternal hug! ...truly an?end of an era Pierre, yes i agree?- a truly great composer, but what about his work as a sideman, I love what he did on Joni Mitchell's songs - not one 'throw-away' note, ever tone exactly right for the song...improvisation at its best,? a total complement to the lead artist...maybe that's?what friends are for?
