I have just found this on iTunes - it is an air shot of the? Zawinul Syndicate at the Town & Country Club in Kentish Town North London UK, from around 1990, I still have a cassette recording of the original FM broadcast.? The gig happened in the summer, but wasn't broadcast until either xmas eve or new years eve...i just checked the cassette and unusual for me, I didn't write the date on it...I haven't listened to the whole iTunes download recording yet, I will get back to you on that. I?traded many copies of my cassettes in the 80's and 90's and a few of them turned up on sugar-megs...which disappointed me as I traded in good faith and didn't expect people to print CD's from them and sell them...more fool me...
...anyway, I am wondering?if this is a remastered copy of my cassette...I wont?know until i listen and see if the tape break is on it match my recording -tape breaks because I had to flip the cassette...from memory the show was 60 mins...?

On the plus side - it was a good gig, worth the ?6 download...and there were a couple of guest players if i remember rightly...Hossam Ramzy on Dumbeck, a very well regarded percussionist in the UK...

Henderson, Gerald Veasley, Bobby Thomas ...? I tried to spot
the names on the video at around 1:06:15 but couldn't get them
all right, especially the last one before "my name is Joe
Zawinul" ... and was Randy Bernsen named? Two guitarists? I'm
missing the drummer and if he was the last one named, I don't
hear either Cornell Rochester or Bill Summers but another name
sounding kind of Arabic!

Hi Steve,
I got a copy of the Camden show in 2015 from the Dime-a-dozen bit-torrent website. Another trader ( Goody) then did some remastering of the recording and gave a more accurate tracking including accurate track titles and reposted the recording on the Dime site. These track titles and timings appear to be the same as the One People recording, so I would suspect the origin of the recording is trader Barkndog remastered by Goody.?

...the late "Hossam Ramzy from Cairo" playing Darabukah an arabic drum -the drum that usually accompanies Belly Dancers, he was based in the UK but sadly died a few years ago now...he was a guest?for this gig...and yes Scott Henderson, Mike Baker (Drums), Gerald Veasy, Bobby Thomas Jnr...and Joe, I don't think Randy B was a guest at this gig...I will have another listen to my cassette...If it is getting this easy to put these things out and it is the only new stuff we are going to hear then I think I might start putting mine out there...the track listed on this as 'One Eye One Mind One People' is this the only 'official release of 'Special Love' ? I contacted Bobby Thomas many?years?ago now, through his website, as he?sang it?more?than anyone else, to ask if it had ever been recorded in a studio, he said he 'had a whie label somewhere' and complimented me?on remembering the song, but that was all he said -does anyone else remember 'white?label vinyl test pressings' that was what we had before digital demos - shows you how long ago that was!!! feels like yesterday when i hear this music...think i'm getting old LOL

Syndicate at the Town & Country Club in Kentish Town
North London UK, from around 1990, I still have a
cassette recording of the original FM broadcast.? The
gig happened in the summer, but wasn't broadcast until
either xmas eve or new years eve...i just checked the
cassette and unusual for me, I didn't write the date on
it...I haven't listened to the whole iTunes download
recording yet, I will get back to you on that. I?traded
many copies of my cassettes in the 80's and 90's and a
few of them turned up on sugar-megs...which disappointed
me as I traded in good faith and didn't expect people to
print CD's from them and sell them...more fool me...
...anyway, I am wondering?if this is a remastered copy
of my cassette...I wont?know until i listen and see if
the tape break is on it match my recording -tape breaks
because I had to flip the cassette...from memory the
show was 60 mins...?

On the plus side -
it was a good gig, worth the ?6 download...and there
were a couple of guest players if i remember
rightly...Hossam Ramzy on Dumbeck, a very well regarded
percussionist in the UK...

...noooo i'm not Barkndog - but i traded with more than few people back in the 80's & 90's and I traded quite a few of this gig with people?in the USA, as I said most of my London shows are on Sugar-megs which was quite a shock - all the Hammersmith Odeon?1980's shows are originally from me, as i said traded in good faith, when I found that they were being turned into cd's and sold I stopped trading with anyone...all my originals are locked away safe...
I have found it?very very interesting over the years that all of the 'official live releases' have been 'mixing desk' versions of some of the better gigs that have been available as audience recordings. Even back to the November 1975 London Astoria gig, the first one I recorded, the only version of Shorters Cigano,? suddenly appeared on 'Live & Unreleased' . Now there were reasons why I was surprised to see that. Alphonso Johnson was the bass player, but there was a problem with his bass at the start?of the song, so you hear Joe Zawinul playing a synth bass-line, then halfway through the song the bass changes to Alphonso...in an interview Alphonso said that, he'd bought a custom bass but not tried it out before the gig, he wanted to give the bass on Cigano a particular feel and so he plugged in his new bass but as soon as he tried to play it he found the 'white dot pitch guides' that he'd asked to be put on the top of the neck rather than the fretboard, had been put in the wrong place -not specifically where he wanted them, and that threw his pitching out, the band had already started playing the song but Alphonso had to switch basses, so that is why he's not on the very beginning?of the track...there was a studio recording of the song at the time that Tale Spinning was released but Cigasno has been left in the vault...how many more like this are there? Similarly, the version of Elegant People recorded at Hammersmith Odeon - the summer of 1976, when WR, Shakti and the Cobham Duke band played 3 nights in a row...I was at all three nights but I only recorded WR the 2nd & 3rd night...when I say this everyone says why didn't you record everything...I was able to sneak in a small mono cassette and batteries but can you imagine how my pockets?would have been bulging with tapes LOL - simply couldn't be done...I didn't record the first night, but I found a trader who did so I have all three gigs...the long intro version of Elegant People I almost wore the tape out -it was so cool to hear that from the mixing desk...too many great memories
It was the anniversary?of Joe's funeral a couple of days ago RIP JZ...the music lives on...

all right, especially the last one before "my name is Joe
Zawinul" ... and was Randy Bernsen named? Two guitarists? I'm
missing the drummer and if he was the last one named, I don't
hear either Cornell Rochester or Bill Summers but another name

ask if it had ever been recorded in a studio, he said he 'had
a whie label somewhere' and complimented me?on remembering the
song, but that was all he said -does anyone else remember
'white?label vinyl test pressings' that was what we had before
digital demos - shows you how long ago that was!!! feels like
yesterday when i hear this music...think i'm getting old LOL

Only UK gig I missed in years of him coming here. Was gutted but really pleased to get it on Jazz FM. I too have it on tape but there seems to be a track missing from the iTunes recordings. I've got Shadows & Light from The Immigrants album between Madagascar & Carnavalito? Anybody else aware of that?

- yes you are spot?on, just checked my tape and 'Shaddows?& Light' is there as you said, did you write the?broadcast date on your tape -I know the gig was in the summer, i missed it too, pretty sure I had a gig myself that night...it was broadcast by Jazz Fm either on xmass eve or New Years Eve...I didn't write it down though??

Hi Andy,
Buried somewhere in
my maps, I found out today while searching that I in fact
already owned a copy of this show but had forgotten about it.
I'm not sure if the present system allows to upload files but
I try to put it on with the message. It is the back cover
goin' along with the music. Of course, it may be photoshopped
but in any case, it displays a date of July 29th (not 20th),
the print of "Tickets ?10 advance Doors: 7.30 pm". The most
interesting is the print of an additional act to the concert:
Microgroove. If anyone should wish to have this file sent or

Hi Steve,
I got a copy of the Camden show in 2015 from the
Dime-a-dozen bit-torrent website. Another trader ( Goody) then
did some remastering of the recording and gave a more accurate
tracking including accurate track titles and reposted the
recording on the Dime site. These track titles and timings
appear to be the same as the One People recording, so I would
suspect the origin of the recording is trader Barkndog
remastered by Goody.?

have just found this on iTunes -
it is an air shot of the? Zawinul
Syndicate at the Town &
Country Club in Kentish Town North
London UK, from around 1990, I
still have a cassette recording of
the original FM broadcast.? The
gig happened in the summer, but
wasn't broadcast until either xmas
eve or new years eve...i just
checked the cassette and unusual
for me, I didn't write the date on
it...I haven't listened to the
whole iTunes download recording
yet, I will get back to you on
that. I?traded many copies of my
cassettes in the 80's and 90's and
a few of them turned up on
sugar-megs...which disappointed me
as I traded in good faith and
didn't expect people to print CD's
from them and sell them...more
fool me...
...anyway, I am wondering?if this
is a remastered copy of my
cassette...I wont?know until i
listen and see if the tape break
is on it match my recording -tape
breaks because I had to flip the
cassette...from memory the show
