on a Rustenburg physiotherapist's betalingsadvies I see the following:
25% PAYE afgetrek op versoek.
Geen UIF afgetrek nie - onafhanklike praktisyn.
The only thing I need to know is what UIF stands for.

It is the Unemployment Insurance Fund.

David, just as a matter of interest:

It’s becoming increasingly common to find English acronyms and abbreviations such as UIF and PAYE in Afrikaans texts.

So if you run into the POPI Act (Protection of personal information) or CCMA (Commission for Reconciliation, Mediation and Arbitration) in Afrikaans texts, it’s either because the writer couldn’t be bothered to look up the Afrikaans terms, thought that they were Afrikaans already, believed abbreviations shouldn’t be translated at all or that readers would not recognise the Afrikaans names and/or abbreviations (Wet op die Beskerming van Persoonlike Inligting, WBPI; Kommissie vir Versoening, Bemiddeling en Arbitrasie, KBVA).

Acts such as POPI and other names and titles that form easily pronounced acronyms in English tend to remain untranslated in spoken language and consequently in writing as well.

?

So sometimes googling will deliver a hit.
