Re: Dilemma

Edited

Mike,
Thank you very much for your Post.

Am I modeling I Z Scale without actually knowing it ?
Are my eyes really brown ?

I have had to begin all over again....Several Times.
I'm Shocked !

to find that Gauge is not to Scale.

And at age 68, one might believe I have begun to stop learning....

Code 40 vs Code 55.
What difference does it make to your Layout's Observers?

Last Night ...
Or is it all about the money?
>> I ordered MORE TRAIN STUFF !
Yes, the Code LASTCHANCE played with my mind and a shot at 10% less or near free shipping did me in.
I tend to spend to the point of shipping cost is offset by a 10% overall discount, and then begin to spend a bit more; just cause I am cheap.
Or Stupid?
Too stupid, not to pass up a deal.?
Even to the point of being further dumb in order to make my own deals?

Is 8 inches enough?
I have a 8 inch tall Coolant Tower next to me, which is part of a larger Power Plant Scenario, dating back in separated/interchangeable modules to the 19th Century.
So back to the Twin Cooling Towers circa 1978 and again in 2021, as Nuclear Power is set for a Comeback; with additional safety protocols.

To What Scale are they ?
Shall they be lighted?
Why does the steam have a Orange/Yellow Glow?
> Should I add twin Just Plug lights to the interior of each tower in Yellow and Orange ?
Do they need brass detailing such as Brass Walks and Brass Caged Ladders ?
How to modify their plastic to sustain the actual use of Steam Rising from Twin Tea Kettles below.
Ah?
When should I begin to stop spending money on these damn things?

How to model at a Distance of say 45 feet diagonally, as a First Observer's Sight is to be drawn across the expanse of the layout.
Or should I be using the term ...
MY LAYOUT ?!
Cause no Club would have me as a Member - Groucho Marx.

They need to stand next to each other....along with Shrubbery and Tall Electrical Towers.
To Scale ?
Good Luck with that !

To the Knights who Formerly said N¨¦e...

Thank You for Your Service!

I am no longer an N Scaler...I am a N¨¦e Gauger from Code 40 Rail on up.

This in itself is a Dilemma, as so much is riding on the use of Code 55, as a base for all model railroading.

Yet?
I want the two level effect, as did the Knights who formerly said N¨¦e.

But does anybody really care?
Does anybody even notice the detail and work one must attribute to the Hobby, when deciding to embrace Code 40?

As a Project Manager....
How does one explain an additional $130 just for the additional lighting for the Twin Towers, to the Head Office?
Just cause there was a Discount Code...and there won't be another till at least January .

Got a Test ?
So here is how I am gonna do it.
Juxtaposition

I am equipping each Coolant Tower with More Money.
They will change heights to each other.

I mean wye should I have all the fun?

By equipping each with an ESU Servo Motor and an ESU Switch Pilot.

I can change their heights by nearly an inch in either direction.

Will anybody notice ?
Does anybody else really care what Code of Rail I use for My Layout?

My Theory is....
Do the same for Sillt City.
(Conglomeration model of the SF Bay based a bit on Quinntopia)
TransAmerica Building versus SalesForce Mega Structure, both constructed on Silt and Landfill.
Which is Taller?
On My Layout, they will change their height levels.....
But it's Trick Question.

They are both sinking.

Gives a different meaning to the words...Stand by Me.

When the night comes and the land is dark....and the moon is the only light we'll see.
(My Grandmother survived the 1906 SF Fire and Earthquake)

Will you notice the detail on my Twin Coolant Towers ? and their many lights.

Down to two figures standing on top, flying a Drone.

Cause Nobody cares.

Well, except one of my Cats; named YoNa (Little Bear in Cherokee)

The cat sniffs and closely examines every bit of progress to my layout.
>> She notices even subtle height differences.

Probably too small for even Z.

Yet the Twin Towers of the Heljan/Con Cor Nuclear Power Plant in HO or N Scale are the same height.
WRONG at 4 inches....
And yet it was all allowed to go further on to market.
I am probably wrong too at 8 inches.
(Prototype Height per Rancho Seco Tower at 420 feet is closer to 31.5 inches,)
====
Wouldn't this be a hoot....
I complete an N Scale Layout with N Scale Kits and such...Only to discover, the entire layout is actually closer to Z Scale.
Should I add a third rail to my hand laid Code 40 and call it Nn3/Dual Gauge or has it been Z Scale all along?

:)) Mark
