Stuart Canin to Join Walden And Patricia and maybe more
Stuart Canin is a world-class violinist who started the Jack Benny and Fred Allen feud on December 30, 1936 when he was playing on The Fred Allen Show. After hearing Stuart play, Allen remarked that a ten year old Stuart Canin played better than Jack Benny! Enjoy this unique opportunity to hear Stuart Canin in discussion with your hosts Walden Hughes, and Patricia plus John And Larry Gassman. After the interview we will play the original December 30, 1936 Town Hall Tonight program which featured Stuart Canin’s performance. Larry Gassman

John Rayburn on Yesterday USA
Hi all, On Friday December 31 at 6 Eastern, 3 Pacific, join us on Yesterday USA as we catch up with long-time friend John Rayburn. www.yesterdayusa.net John as attended most if not all of the major Old Time Radio conventions over the years and has done lots of radio and Television regarding Nostalgia of all types. John writes: Fresh out of the Navy, I got my first job in radio at age 19, two years before the first officially licensed TV stations; moved into TV in 1950s as my career continued that lasted 62 years. I worked as a sports and news anchor, talk show host, and whatever came along. My TV newscast attained the highest Share of Audience rating of any major market TV newscast in the nation. I had reports/appearances on the Today Show, Huntley Brinkley news, Walter Cronkite News, NBC Monitor, NBC News on the Hour, and other specials. I also did play-by-play coverage of baseball, football, basketball, hockey, so I was at least versatile. I met and interviewed many national personalities in business, politics, entertainment. These included such as Ronald Reagan when he was still just president of The Screen Actors Guild, John F. Kennedy when he was still just a Senator, Senator Everett Dirksen, Jimmy Carter on the campaign trail, a special CBS coverage of Richard Nixon and Harry Truman. More in line with the Friday show, I met and had conversation interviews with Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Stan Kenton, Charlie Barnet, Woody Herman, Nat King Cole, Jo Stafford, June Christy, Mel Tormé, Buddy Rich, Frankie Carle, and countless others. I have written seventeen books (4 fiction; one western and three mystery/adventure), travel, and more. I have recorded about five dozen audiobooks, many available on Audible/Amazon and Blackstone Publishing. I guess I must have gotten callouses on my vocal cords because my voice still functions. Heck, I'll be 95 in July so I'm pretty lucky. Jim Taylor has died!
For those who did not see this announcement earlier, our friend and faithful listener, Jim Taylor has died. The news of his death came on New Year’s Day via Rick Lewis, Rick announced that Jim Taylor had died. Apparently, he went to the hospital on Wednesday and died Saturday. He was requesting music from Rick's show last week. From what Rick learned Jim had sepsis. He will certainly be missed by all of us. We thank Virginia for the e-mail about Jim. Jim called me at least twice a week for computer problems and in many cases to add suggestions for shows that we might play that were theme related. This hits many of us hard. Jim as many may know was involved in a terrible fire in about 2016 which caused him constant coughing and breathing issues from that point on. He almost died because of the fire which began in his home. Jim Taylor will be very much missed by so many of us in the old Time Radio community. Radio was a passion with him and it never left him. From Big John Matthews
Hello folks, sorry about missing my show yesterday but my health issues keep affecting me very negatively and do not allow for my usually calm demeanor on the air. I want to make sure you all know about The Glowing Dial Live Fundraising Marathon which is happening March 17 to 20, 2022. I have lined up several neato live guests and am trying for a few more! I'll be doing my usual Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday Live shows "as part of" the Marathon! Also there will be a few Walden Hughes Live shows, all a part of the Marathon. Some with the Wonderful Patricia, some with John and Larry Gassman. I will be the special guest on all of then as they will be a part of the Marathon proper as mentioned. I have been very fortunate to have had some great folks donate items to entice you all to donate generously to our effort. We have quite a few autographed books, some autographed Lum 'n' Abner Comics artwork, some great and rare downloaded program material as well as chances for "you" to become a radio star on my shows or even one of your own! All the information on premium items on offer and guest info are on our webpage at http://www.glowingdial.com/marathon. Very important, we were going to do a Kickstarter, and we still might depending on how all this comes out for us, we'll see. What is running NOW is a PayPal Fundraiser. When you go to the Marathon website, pay attention to the "Beat The Marathon Rush" section as that is where the link is for our current PayPal Fundraiser. There is a countdown right there on the page too so you'll see that we don't have much time left for this one Please donate what you can so that we here at The Glowing Dial Live can make the much needed improvements to equipment for the studio as well as ongoing monthly bills to keep the internet on, keep our increasing number of radio stations on and more. Thanks for reading this long diatribe! And please donate to our PayPal Fundraiser as well as the Marathon in March. Do as much as you can and we thank you in advance! John W.
