1978 version of newly restored History of Rock and Roll from Corey Harker

??????????????? If you want to talk about a labor of love, this would be it. Here's the 1978 version of 'The History Of Rock & Roll', produced by Drake-Chenault and distributed to radio stations across the country. Fifty-two hours that follows oddly enough 'The History Of Rock & Roll'. Roughly ten years ago, I set out to build the 'perfect' digital copy of this and other versions of this iconic show. This is the first installment and widely considered the best. Fifteen plus years ago, an open reel copy of this mega-special was distributed on Usenet. Fans of HORR were ecstatic! There were some audio problems, most notably crosstalk and a loss of fidelity that was most likely an issue from the duplication center rather than the reels themselves. So, in order to do this right, a total of four LP sets were purchased through the years at values of $750-$1250 a pop, and that was just the 1978 version. Not cheap, right? Transfers were done meticulously with a Nagaoka MP-500 cartridge and stylus to reproduce the audio as intended, and all major clicks were corrected by hand using a spectral editor. So while this took awhile (even longer due to family obligations), I'm sure you can relate.

These files will be huge as they were recorded in 24bit/192k wav format. This is the closest we can get to analog in the digital realm. Raw and restored files will be in the set. It has been a labor of love that I am happy to finally share. There are other versions that will be added in the future, but most fans of this broadcast have called this one the best. I agree (for the most part).
