The latest project I am getting my teeth into since going back is the 10-year annual overhaul of the Irish Mail steam loco by the time I had come back from my unexpected break the loco had been pretty much stripped down with only a few extra bits awaiting to be removed. Anyway here is the Gallery i have set up latest update was last Sunday the 25th of May regular updates to follow First a bit of history of Irish Mail Irish Mail is an 0-4-0 saddle tank, built by the Hunslet Engine Co. of Leeds in 1903, works no.823. It worked at the Dinorwic slate quarries in North Wales. It was brought down to the quarry workshop in the 1950s, and dismantled down to the frames. It remained in the yard until the quarry closed in 1969. The Railway purchased Irish Mail and restored it over a ten-year period, with the loco entering service in 1981.
