Book Review: From British Rail to Freightliner; A Train Driver's story and other anecdotes 1984 - 2022
Ok before I start this is just my opinion ok: Link below ? on how to order direct from the Author don't blame me if it out of print ok disclaimer over:? about the book:? There are railwaymen... and there are those that work on the railway! Drawn from a collection of diaries and memories, this is the story of a schoolboy who turned his deep fascination with the railway, into more than 34 years of train driving. Both witty and self-deprecating, the author takes us on journeys around East Anglia from his British Rail depot in Ipswich, where both Intercity and freight work are recalled. He then tells of the enormous changes privatisation brought, which saw him regularly working trains to Birmingham, Crewe, Doncaster, Leeds and Teesside. He chases Tornado, suffers locomotive fires and recalls stories of runaway trains and rhubarb! Book Review:? The start is ok with the first two chapters covering various / Stories and anecdotes that cover various situations around Ipswich where he was based. His stories about going on his MP12 driver course are interesting with various Stories about reliving engineering trains in the middle of nowhere great read. And learning class 90's etc.? Then he goes on about Privatisation and it's really interesting way he joined Freightliner and his Route knowledge increased by a significant amount from Ipswich to locations such as Birmingham Liner Terminal via Stretford and a mad way round Brum Via Aston / Soho Jcts were if you of a certain age the Holyhead to Birmingham loco hauled used to go in early 2000's to turn the loco and stock happy days anyway also going to Teesside (Middlesbrough) Thornaby Yard. Leeds liner Terminal amongst many other places. Also a brilliant few stories about how knackered the class 47's that Freightliner inherited actually were including how at one point they technicians from Brush were riding with them and a great story how one caught fire on him. Great book I highly recommended this to everyone it gives a great overview to the old days under BR then way things changed under secrotorisan pre Privatisation. I'm just up to were he learning the new as was 66's well it an eye opener his opinion compared to class 47's a great book link below you need to email the author for ways to pay? How to order:? From British Rail to Freightliner: Tim Mallion ?(produced by SoftwoodBooks, self published)? 256 pages 17cm x 24.5cm; softback;? 55 photos plus
diagrams.? ?20 including P&P available from the author by emailing

Question
Hi All, Quick question: whenever I post emails to various groups, it shows up in my inbox as a separate message from each group (can be 6 / 7 emails with the same details on), however I notice than when others send messages to various groups, the message only comes through once, which is great. Do you receive multiple messages when I post things, apologies in advance if you do, and is there a way to so that you only get one message (I have even tried BCC but that doesn't work either), as I don't want to clog up inboxes with multiple messages with the same details. Cheers, Rodders |
