Duke STAR Program
#chat
A new chat has been created: Please pass this on to anyone that might be interested... Duke’s STAR Program The Summer Training in Academic Research (STAR) Program provides a high-quality research experience for undergraduate students, high school students, and middle and high school teachers during the summer academic break. The eight-week program, held June 22 to August 13, 2020, will give participants who are interested in science and medicine real hands-on experience in research methodology and writing. Participants are placed in teams and matched with Duke faculty mentors to work on an original, hypothesis-driven project, originating as a one-page summary and culminating in a complete research paper. A goal of the program is to have every participant qualify for co-authorship on a peer-reviewed manuscript related to their team’s project. The STAR Program is held at the Duke Clinical Research Institute in Durham, N.C., which has organized educational and support programs for junior faculty, fellows, residents, and medical students as well as high school and college students. Participants receive a stipend to attend, which makes the program an option even for students who planned to work over the summer break. (see below). Download the fact sheets for students and teachers for more information. Application forms for the 2020 STAR Program are now available at the bottom of this page. Forms will be accepted November 18, 2019, until midnight January 10, 2020. https://dcri.org/education/dukes-star-program/ View/Join This Chat

Important Events In Our Community
2
Hi All, First, I would like to thank and welcome everyone that has subscribed to this group. I would like to bring to your attention, some goings-on in our community. First, Baby Annie was buried yesterday, 11/14/19. For those that are unaware, a 22 month old baby, Annie Emmanuel, passed away recently in her sleep. The family needed help in burying her, and a lot of people in our community, rose to the occasion. I am particularly grateful to the RTP Sisters, headed by Ms. Felicia Harrison. They raised $6,310. I am also grateful to Mr. Azuka Jebose, who rallied everyone in the community. A lot go other groups also, in one way or the other also contributed morally and financially to her burial. We pray, we would not bury our children. Second, Mr. Chris Isijola, brought to our notice that, most airlines now require everyone, traveling to Nigeria, to obtain a Yellow Fever vaccine. He advises anyone traveling soon, to get a clarification from their airline. Third, The Triumphant Christian Church, is having a 3 day Divine Impartation service, from December 6th to 8th. All are cordially invited. Fourthly, for the soccer aficionados, the weekly Saturday morning tap taps, holds tomorrow 11/16/19, at Marsh Creek Community Center, off New Hope Road. And lastly, where the party at this weekend? Please post and let us know…? Regards Seyi
