Whilst I normally avoid posting rumours it seems to be an open secret that Hulleys aren't long for this world, with several reports suggesting tomorrow may be their last day of operation. I'll avoid repeating the speculation, there's plenty of it on some Internet chat forums, but it's well known they are currently undergoing a Public Inquiry process which found numerous areas of concern and adjourned for 3 months to see if things could be improved. Seemingly they couldn't, as Derbyshire County Council gave notice on 13th March they were terminating all the contracts they had with Hulleys (the 63, 110/111, 172 and 173 - a PVR of 6) effective of 7th April and were seeking new providers. That re-tendering process has seemingly sped up with relevant operators preparing to step in now as early as Tuesday as the writing seems to be very much on the wall. If this is the end of this long established and largely well respected operator. One hopes the staff are able to quickly find alternative employment and the rural communities Hulleys serve are not too disadvantaged as a result. Ian

Holbrook's E400MMCs 11626/47/48/714 have gone on loan to Stagecoach West as part of the large contingent of vehicles from across the Stagecoach Empire for use on services connected with the Cheltenham Races meeting this week. It appears some money has been found down the back of the sofa at Arriva Yorkshire! Currently in the process of joining the fleet are 6x E400MMCs from Arriva Midlands, these being YX72 OET/U/V/W/Y/Z (Midlands fleet nos 4574-9, presumably to become 1985-90 but that requires confirmation). In exchange, 6 of the oldest E400s from the 1900-12 batch are due to go to Leicester initially, to be replaced there shortly by new EVs. Also in the process of being prepared for service with AY are 3x E200s - YY15 NHU new to Stephensons of Easingwold and SN16 OSA/OSB new to JMB in Lanark where all 3 were last operated, and 12x E200MMCs ex Warrington fleet nos 201-5/713. 201-5/7/8 had "CAT" private plates when new, however current registrations for the batch are MX18 XLA/B/C/D/E/G/J, YX18 KTP/T/V/UA/UB. They are currently at the Arriva North West facility in Runcorn being prepared for service, which includes the replacement of the 'social' seating at the back of the vehicles being replaced with standard seating. Gather the above are to replace the remaining B7RLEs, the sole remaining DAF/Commander (2578) and a few other 'well worn' motors. All the remaining Tempos have been withdrawn now. Ian

Another "new" operator on the scene in West Yorkshire shortly will be "Go Ahead West Yorkshire" - part of the Go Ahead group - who from February will be operating the WYMCA tendered service 571 (Halifax - Brighouse - Shelf), one of a number of routes being given up by Arriva. I say "new" operator, as the operator will be the long-established Fourway Coaches, who were purchased by the Go Ahead group back in May, and who now operate out of the former Hughes DAF/Arriva Bus & Coach dealership site near Cleckheaton. The 571 contract requires 2 vehicles, which I gather will be a pair of Volvo/MCVs from the East Yorkshire fleet. With franchising seemingly on the way in West Yorkshire it's perhaps unsurprising that one of the big groups is dipping their toe in to the market. Ian

There's a fair deal of speculation and rumours on various internet forums at present regarding the future of Hulleys. I'll try avoiding speculation and just report the facts as I understand them... In December 2023 the owner of Hulleys purchased the Go-Coach business from it's former owner, Austin Blackburn. In December 2024, Mr Blackburn issued a notice to Go-Coach staff stating he had re-purchased the business, expressing concerns that the Go-Coach business was being used to "prop-up" Hulleys and whist it would be "business as usual" for Go-Coach he felt the same may not be tru for Hulleys. Hulleys have returned 2 of their E200MMCs to the rental company - these are YX23 OTB and almost new YX74 ODY. Coming in to the fleet is ex Stagecoach London Optare Solo YJ60 PFN via Ripleys and Harrogate Coach Travel, It is still in "London" condition. Short notice service changes come in at the end of next week which by my calculations reduce the PVR by 2. These, I gather, will allow the remaining 3 leased E200MMCs - YX74 ODM/N/P to be returned. Hi all Happy New Year! A bit of a long-overdue update... The swap of 36x E400 Hybrids to Manchester in return for 36x standard E400s was completed over the weekend. The 36 E400s now part of the Yorkshire fleet are: At Chesterfield - 19400/19/23/47/54/56/64/73 At Holbrook - 19420/26/48/49/50/51/52/53/57/58/59/61/62/63/65/66/67/68/69/71/72/74/75/76/77/78/79/514 The new Yutongs for Chesterfield depot are all now in the UK and in storage at the Yutong facility in Castleford. Likewise, I gather the E400EVs are built and in storage at the Alexander Dennis facilities in Scotland, both pending electrification works at Chesterfield depot to be completed before they are delivered. The movement of Hybrids to Manchester (for ultimate use by Metroline Manchester from early January as part of the latest round of franchising in Manchester) is now well underway, with Enviro 400s coming to Yorkshire in return. Transferred over to the wrong side of the Pennines thus far are 12092/4/5/6/8/9/100/1/2/5 and 12162/3/4/6/9/70/1/3/4/5/6. E400s known to have moved over to Holbrook thus far are 19426/48/9/50/1/2/3/8/62/3/7/8/9/71/2/5/8. The remaining Hybrids at Holbrook and Chesterfield are due to be exchanged for further E400s within the next week. Ian

Hi all 5x Volvo B11RT/Plaxton Elites are in the process of joining the Yorkshire fleet from Stagecoach South West. These are 54305/06/07/08/19 (YX64 WCJ/K/L/M/YY65 VXU). Latterly used on the "Falcon" service these are joining the Coaching Unit at Chesterfield for Rail Replacement work, replacing the ex-Megabus Interdecks which have latterly been used on Rail Replacement (54289/90/92/93) which I gather are going for use on the Falcon service due to their higher capacity. TM Travel have acquired a number of ex Stagecoach London (new to CT Plus) Optare Solos from Ripley, Carlton (dealer). First to enter service - still in 'London red' with TM fleet names added is YJ60 PFK (was Stagecoach 47988/CT Plus OS14 later 1752) and now TM fleet number 1156. These Solos are Euro 6, and along with some Euro 6 deckers also due (and also ex-London) will help finally make the TM fleet compliant with the Sheffield Clean Air Zone (which came in to effect in February 2023...) Holbrook's E400MMC 11716 (YX73 PFJ), recently repainted in to the trial 'midnight blue' Stagecoach livery has been back through the paintshop and received a fresh coat of paint - still overall blue, but a bit lighter than the previous version. This. presumably, is another trial livery. Delivery is due to commence shortly of the first batches of electric vehicles for Chesterfield depot funded through the government ZEBRA funding. Expected to be delivered first are the two batches of Yutong single decks - 6 E10 models and 12 longer E12 models, to be followed later by 39 Alexander Dennis E400EV deckers. Ian
