Howdy y'all:

My name is Vivian. I've been a fan of ASL for over sixteen years without ever playing it, but our time here is too short not to properly indulge our hobbies.

Are there any face-to-face groups (or individuals) that play regularly in the South Shore/Greater Boston area and wouldn't mind teaching a new player?

Hello,
? ? ? ? ?There are definitely some people who can help you out. Chuck T? Where about in the South Shore greater area are you??
Thanks,
Carl

Well I am in Gardner MA.? There are a host of players in Easton and other towns down toward the Cape. ? I’ll let them chime in. ?

Welcome,

Ok, I gotta ask . . . how can you be a fan of a game that you never played?? What is it that brings your interest to ASL?? What boardgames?do you enjoy and why?? What is your playing style?? Is heads down, move and roll or do you see gaming as more of social engagement??

Do you own any ASL modules or are you getting your toes wet with the starter kits that are available?

More information about yourself would allow you to connect with ASL players who are compatible with your playing style.

Best,

Cole

Welcome aboard, there are plenty of ASL players in the eastern part of the state who can help but you can also play online via VASL, it allows you to play against opponents any where in the world and there are many ASL veterans out there that can help you learn how to play properly.?

I am Vic from Dispatches from the Bunker, the southern New England ASL newsletter. Reply to my aslbunker@... e-mail for complete details or if you want to try VASL sometime. I am out in the western part of the state in Pittsfield and wish you well in learning and playing this great game system.

Good luck, be well and roll low!?EmojiEmoji

Happy Holidays, your ASL Comrade, Vic.

You're right, Vic - we should be welcoming.

There's been a lot of chatter recently on the interwebs and social media as of late with some accusing wargamers collectively of being GATEKEEPERS. As much of that p.c. discussion simply nauseates me and I won't take up bandwith here about it, I would hate to see anything resembling those accusations here with this YASL group, which has a long history of welcoming and bringing new players into ASL.

Best,

I couldn't?agree more!! HOOYAHH!!

I agree as well.

If gatekeeping is being pointed at my "job interview" questions, that was not my intention.? I would hope all would be welcoming to a new player and help bring the person into the fold.

A little information about interest, playstyle and location is helpful.? Tiffany has some relatable stories about bad play experiences.

Best,

Cole

So Vivian,
? ? ? ? ? ?all that said and done. Where are you located??This will assist in figuring out which players are closest to you geographically. Also, do you play VASL at all? This is a great tool as it allows you to learn at a quicker pace and expands the number of players who have access to you.

Hi Vivian, Vic from Dispatches here and I know Carl is one of the best at answering rules questions in region, he does my Tactical Tips articles in Dispatches from the Bunker and does a great job. If you run into something you don't understand, just send a msg to Carl, me or whomever you might be playing and you will get help, this gaming community has lots of great people in it looking to help new players anyway they can. Enjoy your journey into the ASL universe, I've been in it for 4+ decades and love what I do, Vic at Dispatches.

Vivian, recommend that you join Discord ASL server as well - a wealth and resources and good folks there to provide guidance on getting into the game and rules questions. Excellent “opponents wanted” thread as well where you should be able to find others like you just starting the game. Can’t recommend VASL platform enough - a force multiplier in ease of finding opponents unhindered by geography.?

Welcome.?
