Add in some VASL play in between and you can keep busy learning how to really play this game in time. Reading rules is OK and necessary but actually playing the game is where it is really at, good luck getting the dice rolling, if you ever want to VASL, just let me know. Roll low, Vic.??

You have a good group of players in your area and should have no problem with a learning game.? Another opportunity is to sign up for one of the area tournaments and lest the host know you are looking for learning games.
Also, talk with your favorite game shops about players or whether it hosts any ASL nights or days.? I know one of the board subscribers does one at a CT shop that has good attendance.
Look to join the Avalon Hill group as you have a lot of ASL players there and many in the mid-Mass area.

Don't know how to describe being a fan. Just one of those things you know? Pretty much thought ASL was the perfect game when I first heard of it. I have most everything official I believe except for DZ: SME and ABTF (though I'm not certain where a couple items are after they got shuffled in a move). I've read thru the rules a decent amount, but I wouldn't stake claim to knowing much beyond the basics.
I'm roughly around Quincy, but don't mind traveling if there's T access.

Vivian, recommend that you join Discord ASL server as well - a wealth and resources and good folks there to provide guidance on getting into the game and rules questions. Excellent “opponents wanted” thread as well where you should be able to find others like you just starting the game. Can’t recommend VASL platform enough - a force multiplier in ease of finding opponents unhindered by geography.?
Welcome.?

If you run into something you don't understand, just send a msg to Carl, me or whomever you might be playing and you will get help, this gaming community has lots of great people in it looking to help new players anyway they can. Enjoy your journey into the ASL universe, I've been in it for 4+ decades and love what I do, Vic at Dispatches.

Agree with Mark, Discord for both the Gardiner Gaming Garage that Chuck Tewksbury runs and also for the general ASL site is well worth your time, you will have a ton of guys willing to help at both. Good luck with Discord and also VASL, you? will be moving counters and throwing dice in no time. Enjoy! Vic.
