US purchase request
开云体育Hello all, ? This might sound a bit cheeky, but is there anyone in the US? who could buy me an English language DVD of “Star Sand” by Roger Pulver, which was released in 2017, and mail it to me? The cheapest quote I can find for the mailing is $35, which seems excessive. Full reimbursement by Paypal! ? We are reading the novella in Book Group (at the end of October, so no rush) and I wanted a copy of the DVD to share around. But not at over $50 for the purchase and mailing….. ? I hope everyone is having a restful summer. Here in the south of England we have been having a pleasantly cool, if wet, “traditional Scottish summer pre 2000”. Only 500 miles south, and many years on, from when this was customary. Personally I love it, and so does the garden. I didn’t even know our tree could produce such huge apples, after drought summers all the eleven years we have now been in Oxfordshire. ? DH’s scheduled treatment of a month of radiotherapy is off, as due to his haemorrhages in June this was no longer considered safe. The surgeons had already rejected the conventional abdominal surgeries as unsafe for several reasons, so we had eight unpleasant weeks while the consultants argued to and fro about which was the “least bad option”. Finally someone thought of a specialist in London who does a rare (experimental) robotic keyhole surgery which seemed as though it might be a good choice. So that is now booked for 29 August, and it is fingers crossed all round that everything will go smoothly. ? I have now been in one place for 5 weeks, which is a rare thing in recent years, and am feeling a little more grounded. Doing more knitting again, and lots of reading and gardening. And dog-walking, of course, courtesy of the adorable Freddie. DH will be home next week for a scan, and then for a month at the end of August for surgery and recovery. After seven months of waiting, you can imagine how much we look forward to getting this done. ? Jenny |
开云体育Amazon has it (at above your price point before shipping), but I found this: . They seem to have a UK-based warehouse. ? Meanwhile, you and DH continue in my thoughts and in my heart. ? Ann McManus in PA ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Jenny Swanson

开云体育Yup. And I don’t speak Japanese. I checked out the dvdplanetstore, but their UK warehouse doesn’t have the film, and their reviews are very poor. I guess Book Group will have to do without the film for comparison with the book. Thank you so much for taking the trouble to look, I’m sorry I wasted your time….. Jenny ? 开云体育Thank you so much Melisandre, and fingers crossed! ? I’m sure Arielle will learn a HUGE amount from the Liverpool programme, and from being over here. ? The NHS should work perfectly in terms of regular meds and minor ailments, it’s only hospital space we are short on. She should be registering with one of the recommended docs for the college (if I remember correctly) and provided the meds she takes are on the NHS approved list, she should be able to get them regularly and smoothly. Otherwise there will be an alternative on offer. You should be able to check now, which ones the NHS can supply. My only advice would be that it takes a few days for a GP practice to fulfil a repeat prescription request, and another few days for the pharmacy to actually dispense it, so don’t leave it to the last minute to put the request in. ? Emergency care should be ok too, things like elderly falls, strokes and heart attacks have been an issue just because the ambulances sometimes take longer than ideal. A young woman should not come into those categories so she should be fine. ? There will be an overseas support team at the college so they will cover everything else. ? Oh, and you can get a private health care plan with a provider like BUPA, which will probably seem quite cheap to you, but it won’t cover standard meds, just any hospital tests or treatments needed. The all singing-all dancing, full cancer care plan which we inherited from DHs workplace, costs us less than ?3000 per year even at our “advanced” age of early 60s. ? My only personal advice would be that the legal age of drinking alcohol here is 18, so most of the students will already be very experienced – and there is quite a hard drinking and clubbing student culture. This is at its worst the first week or two, when some of the young ones are anxious that if they don’t join in with it all, they will be friendless for life…….. ? Enjoy! ? Jenny Who just realised she doesn’t even know whether Arielle is an instrumentalist, singer, actress……..I’m guessing music of some kind from the mention of Boston Conservatoire. ? I can do that – I’ll have Arielle add it to today’s Amazon cart (if that was an Amazon thing) and we can send it (will need your address, but no rush). ? Arielle did get her place at LIPA and she/we decided that it was a better match than the program at Boston Conservatory, so she’ll be UK bound in just over a month.? Very excited for her, lots of trepidation too (many of which, I admit, are associated with dealing with the NHS because shipping meds from the US constantly is not a great plan). ? Melisande ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Jenny Swanson ? Melisande, if you can get the English language version from planetDVDstore at the $15 price and send it regular first class in the UK, that would be great. Not needed until end of October. ? I’ll risk the possible poor quality, and I can use both UK and US dvd types. We have some book group members who are very into analysing adaptations, so I’d like to get it to share with them. ? I gather that? Arielle got her place at Liverpool/ Well, that is very exciting for everyone. ? Jenny ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Melisande R. Wolf via groups.io ? Hi Jenny, ? When do you need it?? I’ll be in Liverpool and then Wales in about a month to drop Arielle off.? I’d be happy to mail from within the UK if that makes sense (something everyone I know does with Israelis/things people in the US want from Israel).? ? I’m sorry to read that things have been so difficult for your DH and am glad that you were able to find another option.? Continuing to send juju from here. ? Let me know if I can help. ? Melisande ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Jenny Swanson ? Thanks Ann, ? The UK Amazon site was not showing this this morning, and it was dvdplanetstore which wanted to charge me $35 for shipping. No sign of the UK based warehouse in my searches. ? I’ll look again, sometimes when someone searches, a firm rationalises their options,,,,, ? Much appreciated Jenny ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Ann McManus ? Amazon has it (at above your price point before shipping), but I found this: . They seem to have a UK-based warehouse. ? Meanwhile, you and DH continue in my thoughts and in my heart. ? Ann McManus in PA ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Jenny Swanson ? Hello all, ? ? Jenny |
开云体育Good morning (in the US), ? Apologies for the group note, but Outlook isn’t throwing up Jenny’s email for me no matter how I look. ? Finally remembered that I needed to order the DVD, and while I can buy it for $15, it’s telling me $40 US to ship it here, so I’m not sure if you still want it or if there’s another option.? Amazon appears to be $62 before shipping, so that’s not useful. ? I hope everyone is well – we’re attempting to get organized for the trip, but so far all I really know is that I must bring rain gear but we can borrow Wellies for our big underground excursion. ? Arielle is doing an Acting course (in the US, this type of program is also called a conservatory program, so while Boston Conservatory started as a dance program, they also have musical theatre and the quite new program that Arielle turned down).? Musical theatre has much more interest and many more programs (which tend to be favored over acting) in the US, while LIPA has had acting longer (after starting as a music school) and is adding musical theatre for the first time this fall. ? Which is more than any of you wanted to know.? On the knitting front, the “school” blanket I knit Arielle is nearly done and it’s enormous.? She wanted a quote related to her craft, rather than the simple name I did for Baird or the physics constant I did for Ezra, but I had to modify because it was so huge already. ? Melisande |
I'll pass on the dvd in that case, thanks so much for trying though Melisande. I think it will be a bit pricey if I either can't play it or it turns out to be in Japanese. I'm very interested to hear about Arielle's course. I'm sure she will get lots out of it.? Seven days to DHs surgery, we are crossing fingers he doesn't pick up some respiratory bug which would hold things up. It's already seven months since he got the suspicious blood result......I have seen nobody for two weeks already, and gone nowhere except dog walks. Shades of lockdown.
