Some good news! ?

?My daughter is engaged!

After I don’t know how many failed relationships, she’s finally met a good one.
Funny thing is, they went to high school together and were just friends.
They make each other so happy and he’s very level-headed, hard worker, has common sense, he’s so good with Waylon, and his family loves Katie and Waylon.

Progress......

Good news is always welcome, especially now. You must be so happy. How old is Waylon now?

I hope group members will keep in touch as all this unfolds around us. We're okay here at present, but between us have 4 parents average age 88, none particularly well. Clearly a concern.

Jenny

PS Connie, I bought your husband's book, hoping to read it during some of the quiet home time which is likely to be plentiful over the next few weeks.

That's wonderful news, Connie. I'm so happy for all of you.

We are practicing social distancing here. Saturday is normally our day to eat breakfast out with our younger son. We cancelled that for the time being and will eat at home. I'll miss catching up on his week, but it really is for the best.

We also cancelled a planned trip to DC at the end of this month to see the grands and "babysit" the no-longer babies while their dad has drill weekend. We were planning to take Amtrak for the first time (this route, we've taken the train other places just not to DC). Seemed like less than optimal.I

Our exercise classes (the over 55 bunch) are suspended through the end of March. Again a good idea, but it makes me sad.

Congratulations! That is wonderful,

Jenny, yes, your parents and my father are especially vulnerable. Please be careful

Around here, everything is cancelled. We are entertaining a couple for dinner tonight and another couple is coming over tomorrow to eat at home. We have decided not to go out to eat and I am canceling a bigger party I was planning for the end of the month. Other than that, I am home and spinning up a storm.

I am very happy that our exercise is done in the basement with our own machines. I don't have to interact with anyone except my husband. We have to go shopping of course and a lot of the stores have empty shelves so we have to make multiple trips to get various items. I am trying to do them early in the am or late at night.

Yes, we are washing hands and I am disinfecting the garage door knob, car handles, the kitchen sink faucet, etc. regularly because these are things we touch when we come in, I got touchless soap dispensers to avoid contaminating them.

We got a steam mop and are mopping more often also.?

Phones, etc. also need to be disinfected with alcohol wipes or a UV sanitizer.

Congratulations! I first met my DH in college when we were 19. I’m sure it wouldn’t have worked out back then, but when we reconnected in our mid 20’s it was just the right time.

Connie, from one mother-of-a-single-mother to another, that's wonderful news, congratulations! I wish her and Waylon all the best.

I and my family are being very, very cautious as virus concerns explode around us. My parents, who live right here and whom I see most days, are 85; my dad, a cancer patient (in a drug trial right now) and Eric are both immune-compromised. I'm doing everything possible to try not to risk their health. We are not going out anywhere - no more gym, restaurants, social engagements, movie theaters - even my local knitting group is not meeting anymore, unfortunately. I'm doing all the in-person shopping for all of us. Eric and I take care of grandson Hank every day, but as of today (thankfully) he is out of school, and he's well-trained in handwashing already. His mother is the weak link so far - not that Emma herself is unserious/unprepared, but her small-business employer is not taking things seriously enough yet. I hope to convince Emma to convince the boss to shut down for a week, at least, so everyone can stay home. I had a trip planned next week to visit my elderly exchange parents in the Netherlands - needless to say, cancelled that earlier this week.

Beyond that, I'm doing my best to find and share reliable, helpful information on Facebook. It still shocks me to talk with people who seem totally unconcerned and uninformed. I'm so glad most of you are there on FB, it is good to be hearing from you. Laura, stay healthy and stay sane, I can't imagine what you and your colleagues are going to be put through.

Thank heavens for knitting and spinning! Finishing Hank's Killeany today, and a Kate Davies cardigan for me just needs buttonbands.? Spinning yarn for a sweater on my Nano.?

May all of you, and your families, be well.?

Best of luck with all your precautions, Therese. I have seen your good information efforts on Facebook.

?

May I ask which Kate Davies cardigan you are finishing? I really like her work and have a long list including a Wee Bluebell cardi for my new great-niece Ottilie.

?

Our younger daughter C. is currently working in Glasgow and often takes a weekend drive up? Loch Lomond to Balmaha and other locations which can be seen on Kate Davies’ blogs. It’s a wonderful opportunity for her.

Love to everyone

Just like the old days - getting half the messages!

I started working from home Monday - 4 days before the memo went our telling everyone to do so. Our big fundraising dinner - which was honoring Eric Holder this year - is cancelled. Miriam is on a plane home as we write - school’s done for the year. My elderly parents took until midweek this week to be convinced to not come to California. DH has been out shopping but I’m sticking close to home. I guess these are the times we were building our stashes for? Stay safe everyone.?

That's a lovely green shade, Therese- I'd rather like to do it in that myself some time this year.

Amy, I'm sure you will enjoy a little extra time with Miriam although I suppose they will have online classes and some work to do?

Glad to hear that everyone seems to be doing well!

?

I’ve been out and about doing some necessary shopping and am really shaking my head at some of what’s not on store shelves – flour and sugar are nearly gone, even though I suspect most people don’t really bake much, and it took me two stores to find yeast.? Dog and cat foods are stockpiled for a while so it’s one less thing to worry about.

?

Arielle is home from school for the next two weeks, though that seemed to shift hour by hour on Thursday and Friday – her high school’s musical was to have its second weekend this weekend and at Thursday’s brush-up rehearsal, they told the kids that they were closing Friday night’s show to only close friends and family on a list to comply with the state regulations on the size of gatherings and canceling Saturday, but by the time they sent the kids home after a somewhat hastily planned half day on Friday, that performance had been canceled too.? All kids grades 6-12 have school-issued chromebooks, so the primary concern with the older kids in my district is figuring out how to do remote classes effectively.

?

Ezra is still at school.? He was supposed to come home for spring break this morning (so he could see Arielle’s show) but he and I have been talking extensively and I’ve had a couple of conversations with the school, which has communicated with parents really well, and he’s staying put.? They’re extending spring break by a week but campus will have the normal services (like dining hall hours) then and while they’re encouraging any student in a higher risk group to finish the semester remotely and welcome any others to do so too, they’ve decided to continue the semester on campus.? Ezra has two labs classes this semester, so we decided he was better off staying put.? I have local adults for him if he needs something, and if the school decides to close, I’ll deal with it then.

?

Baird is finishing up his finals and they are shutting down campus for the first half of the spring quarter and doing it remotely, so he’s flying home on Tuesday.? Carleton has done a terrible job of communicating and changing stories and all kinds of craziness and rather than making a decision on the earlier side, they waited until the kids were immersed in preparing for finals to make a series of what seem to be kneejerk reactions.? Among other things, they’ve told the kids to take everything home with them if they can even though they’re currently planning to re-open campus for the second part of the quarter.? It also sounds like they’re potentially planning not to offer some classes in spring term, which could have implications for getting requirements for majors or minors completed since many courses are offered only one quarter a year and there are a lot of pre-reqs that many students need.? It’s a bit of a nightmare and Baird is really stressed out about whether he’ll be able to learn effectively with remote classes.

?

My Dad was supposed to drive up to celebrate Arielle’s (belated) birthday tomorrow, but we decided that he and his wife should stay home.? He told me yesterday that his synagogue had sent an email yesterday afternoon telling everyone over 65 to stay home from services this week and that they’re closing down entirely on Sunday.? This is a big deal in his particular community.

?

Of course, my work isn’t significantly impacted by the need to hunker down, other than some scrambling to turn live workshops for our clients into something that could be delivered virtually, so I’m going to be working most of the weekend to catch up from all the time devoted to the crazy that needed to be dealt with the end of last week.

?

Needless to say, I am not going to Spain on Thursday.? I’ve known for a while that it wasn’t going to be possible even though it took the people I was going with a lot longer to come to that conclusion.? We’d been planning this for a year, so I’m pretty bummed, but even without the developments of the last few days, I knew I couldn’t risk going and being quarantined when I got back because there’s really no one to take care of Arielle since her father is being useless.? At least the hysteria about the boys is being confined to texts to me rather than bothering them directly.?

Our synagogue is entirely cancelled. First they were doing to have a small gathering for people saying Kaddish but then they cancelled that too. We watched the Megillah via livestream - seemed like only parents with young kids were there. DH said Kaddish for his mother’s yahrtzeit with our rabbi who broadcast a short drash (sermon) over a Facebook livestream last night.?

I started working from home Monday - 4 days before the memo went our telling everyone to do so. Our big fundraising dinner - which was honoring Eric Holder this year - is cancelled. Miriam is on a plane home as we write - school’s done for the year. My elderly parents took until midweek this week to be convinced to not come to California. DH has been out shopping but I’m sticking close to home. I guess these are the times we were building our stashes for? Stay safe everyone.?

Connie, from one mother-of-a-single-mother to another, that's wonderful news, congratulations! I wish her and Waylon all the best.

?

?

Beyond that, I'm doing my best to find and share reliable, helpful information on Facebook. It still shocks me to talk with people who seem totally unconcerned and uninformed. I'm so glad most of you are there on FB, it is good to be hearing from you. Laura, stay healthy and stay sane, I can't imagine what you and your colleagues are going to be put through.

?

Thank heavens for knitting and spinning! Finishing Hank's Killeany today, and a Kate Davies cardigan for me just needs buttonbands.? Spinning yarn for a sweater on my Nano.?

?

May all of you, and your families, be well.?

Around here, everything is cancelled. We are entertaining a couple for dinner tonight and another couple is coming over tomorrow to eat at home. We have decided not to go out to eat and I am canceling a bigger party I was planning for the end of the month. Other than that, I am home and spinning up a storm.

I am very happy that our exercise is done in the basement with our own machines. I don't have to interact with anyone except my husband. We have to go shopping of course and a lot of the stores have empty shelves so we have to make multiple trips to get various items. I am trying to do them early in the am or late at night.

My synagogue is down to services only with stated requirements for social distancing, and Friday night and Saturday livestreamed.? I expect that to change to entirely closed, probably tomorrow.

?

We actually had a decent turnout for the Megillah reading and the dinner beforehand.? Arielle and I went but only made it through the first 5 chapters before the noise got to be too much for her migraine.

Glad to hear we all seem to be faring as well as can be expected.? I'm cancelling my planned trip east to visit my 91 yo Mom.? Luckily, she rarely goes anywhere, so it's life as usual for her.? I worry about her visitors, not so much her caregiver who comes 2x a week.??

?

We are hunkering down here, which is pretty easy - we only go out a couple of times a week, anyway.? My knitting group is cancelled, as are weaving guild meetings.? We have a couple of medical appts coming up - DH had a very very mild stroke about a month ago, and we're still following up from that.? There was minimal damage/effects, and it scared him enough to quit smoking - Monday will be six weeks - so really a good thing, though a bit scary at the time!? We are just hoping to stay out of the way and minimize transmission in any way we can.

?

Congratulations, Connie, for your daughter's engagement!? It's nice to have a little ray of sunshine!

?

?And yes, I have enough yarn/thread/books/etc for the foreseeable future!? More time to weave, and I'll be able to start my indigo crop a little sooner.

Jenny!

I could have sent you a copy (the kindle version) for free.
Thank you so much for buying it, though! I hope you enjoy it. Please, if you have time, leave an honest review. Even if you don’t like it, and you say why, it helps for people to see that his reviews are real and not just fake.
So far, the response has been really good!

I hope group members will keep in touch as all this unfolds around us. We're okay here at present, but between us have 4 parents average age 88, none particularly well. Clearly a concern.

PS Connie, I bought your husband's book, hoping to read it during some of the quiet home time which is likely to be plentiful over the next few weeks.
