So I have to ask… what do you think about the new look for Ravelry? ? I have to say that I’m really surprised by the choice to completely rebrand away from colors and logo, but more than that, I’m shocked by how clunky the interface now looks.? It might function better, I’m not sure, but it’s causing me so much trouble with my eyes and headache that I’m not entirely certain I’ll ever find out. ? I did post in the feedback thread, but at the moment I’m not sure how well I’ll be able to keep up in the groups I moderate in, much less with other groups that I was active in or things I was following or doing on Ravelry. ? Pretty sad about this today. ? Melisande

Wow. It seems pretty unfortunate and decidedly dated in appearance compared to the original. ?It also has a ‘grasping for syndication’/failed Craftsy feel that worries me wrt Ravelry overall health.?

I don't really like it - it's just too white, and I don't think I'll like reading it on my tablet when I watch tv, either.? Most folks who have responded in places I read (not the main FTLoR board) don't seem too keen.

I clomped around a bit after the owner of one of my Facebook groups pointed it out (reaction was mixed and about 50/50). I glanced at the forums I follow, posted a photo in my projects. Other than that. . . Truthfully, it’s as much Rav action as I have had in months. ? ?

Here's a suggestion to make it look similar to the old site - but not exactly. I found it made it better, but only on a desktop. Can't do it on a mobile device, I think

I am annoyed by the cutesiness of the hot air balloons and sailing clouds (and moving stuff? yuck). Didn't spend enough time there today to have much of an opinion yet about usability. Gut feeling is why mess with what worked fine? But I know people get tired of things and want change. And I'm sure I'll get used to this too. I don't mind the clean white page backgrounds and new drop-down menus.

I’ve had to do a lot of work recently on UI/UX, and we now have a huge team at work called “the Creative Lab” staffed mostly by 20-somethings. I missed that yesterday. Really dislike it and it’s not because it’s new, it’s because it looks like an early reader for very little kids. I’m not a fan of cute icons etc either. Perhaps they want to attract Very Young Knitters or those who like the very candy-pop styles? ? The bright white everywhere is unusable to me. No doubt a fix will come along. I’m sorry for them that everyone doesn’t love it (but they did ask people to tell them and they would listen). ? I once met someone? at a dinner who worked in the flavouring industry, who said her biggest challenge was that the marketing people always wanted to make something “new and improved” while the core customers liked it exactly as it was……..made sense. ? Under the community tab. Why did they move it? Oh well, I’ll get used to that, and I installed the emulator to make it look like the old site a bit, but the white is still too white and that’s what gets to me most I think.

Thanks, Jaya! It’s installed and I’ll play with it. Took me a bit to find where my friend activity had gone. That’s my major interface with Ravelry these days — scrolling to look for eye candy. But at least now I can see the menu.?

Thanks for sharing Jaya – I’d seen that but haven’t explored it yet.? I mostly use Ravelry on my desktop and try to avoid using it on my phone anyway, so this would be a big help for me.
My phone still has one “old version” tab open (I did say “try”) and the differences in how things are delineated (what some people have called the grid lines) and the color choices and arrangement of the interface elements makes an amazing amount of difference
for me.??
Here's a suggestion to make it look similar to the old site - but not exactly. I found it made it better, but only on a desktop. Can't do it on a mobile device, I think

I wondered that too, Melisande - I thought maybe it was me being a fogey (ok, boomer).? Great - one more thing to figure out how to modify to recapture it's former functionality!

He expands that it looks like dated, poor forum design and that he has never seen anything (in a forum design) that hurts your eyes that much.

Some folks have posted information about plug-ins that can modify the appearance so I’m going to have to figure that out for myself.

So I have to ask… what do you think about the new look for Ravelry?
I have to say that I’m really surprised by the choice to completely rebrand away from colors and logo, but more than that, I’m shocked by how clunky the interface
now looks.? It might function better, I’m not sure, but it’s causing me so much trouble with my eyes and headache that I’m not entirely certain I’ll ever find out.
I did post in the feedback thread, but at the moment I’m not sure how well I’ll be able to keep up in the groups I moderate in, much less with other groups that
I was active in or things I was following or doing on Ravelry.

Ah. Thanks. I agree, too much bright white, and I find the dark shadow under various boxes very distracting ?

I actually don't mind the font and other changes. It is the expanse of white that was annoying. I kind of liked how the green set off certain things. With the Stylish extension installed, I'm good.?
I think the white is what gives?it that early 90s/00s website look. It reminds me of boards I was on back then with little gifs everywhere. The rest of it is just something that takes getting used to.
i too prefer the desktop view and have that on my phone and tablet. I really don't like the mobile views of most sites.

The Stylish style reduces the brightness of the white which makes it easier?on the eyes as well as adding the green to set off headers and such. I find the lower contrast white much easier to look at.
I may reduce the brightness on my phone and ipad which are already set to to pretty low brightness.
