I know Ann is the expert and the person who routinely enters lots of items in the fair. I decided to enter my first 100% handspun sweater in the fair this year and it won the grand prize for the wool-blend category
I am pretty chuffed! Maybe I'll enter more stuff next year. I also realized that a lot of the handspun yarn is fairly small skeins. I don't know why that didn't occur to me!

Well deserved!?
I usually enter weaving in the county fair, though I missed this year (confused the entry deadline).? It's a great way to expose the general public to our craft(s).? I also enter the state fair - you don't have to win at the county level to enter.
Beautiful sweater!

I don't know that I am an expert, just have several years experience in a very narrow venue. Tbh, I haven't even explored other nearby fairs as places to enter my projects. This spring for the first time, I entered a small weave in the local women's club art event. (All fiber art was judged as a class) and came in for second to an intricate counted cross stitch. Third was a pair of sewn shorts.
Like Diane, I enter to keep the craft alive. When I started, several years ago, we were allowed ten entries. Now it's open and I have 30+ to drop off today. Prizes have gotten better, as well, from depression era ($3 for first place for an adult sweater) to about 3 times that amount. It supports my hobby.

Thank you all! I'm pretty pleased with it because while I've put handspun into a sweater, I've never actually planned and spun the yarn for an entire sweater. I was a little concerned that it might be too gaudy but once I started knitting, I knew it was going to be all right.? Knitting with handspun is just fabulous. So much better than knitting with commercially spun yarn. On Thu, Aug 24, 2023 at 10:37?AM Melisande R. Wolf via <melisanderwolf= [email protected]> wrote:
