p.s. I also bought some as DVDs when they were selling off their DVDs prior to going all subscription. Those were $10 a piece. So I have those forever. And when they moved to not being able to download, they let those of us who had classes at the time, download them for about?a week. I have some classes downloaded that way. But there are a few on dyeing I haven't watched and I'm going to download those.

You can download to an IOS device but only watch it in the Craftsy app. So don't update your Craftsy app or the IOS device till you have watched the classes.

Sad that it's going away, there is a lot of really great material there. And it seems strange if they can't find a business model worth continuing. I own around two dozen classes and I certainly hope they will make it possible to download them to a hard drive (preferably) or SD card - seems the least they could do.

Jaya,? I think I'm correct when I write that you can download them to watch later, but that will only work while the site is still "alive".? It's not a long term solution.? Is my thinking right on that?

But knowing that you are very computer savvy,? if you know how these classes can be downloaded so that we can have access even after the site is not longer functional,? share it.

Any tech help we can get with this, is welcome.? I'll try anything to capture my content.

Mary.

For those on Facebook, there’s a new group on there called Hold Bluprint Accountable. Some information on there and someone is looking into software to download.?

Nilda,

If you happen to see anything about software to download, please post it here.

I'm not on Facebook.

Mary,?
You can download lessons to watch offline but only via their app. So it is not a long term solution because once they stop supporting their apps and the OS changes, the apps may not work. There are two apps: Craftsy which only apparently?allows downloading to IOS and Bluprint which allows downloading to Android and IOS. I have the Craftsy app.

Now, some Android users on Ravelry have reported that they can download and then connect the device to their computer and then can see the files and are able to move them to the computer. The files have names with numbers, but are .mp4 files.?

I only have IOS devices here so I can't tell you if that works. It is not possible on an IOS device. I tried various software programs yesterday and none worked.?

However, on my Mac, I am able to record the video as it is playing using the new screenshot manager in Mojave. I have not upgraded to Catalina yet. But it only supports the microphone, not internal audio. I found a plug-in that will record the internal audio but I haven't tried it yet. Possibly today. There is apparently something similar for Windows?
There is also this?
"I am currently trying out OBS studio on my HP laptop, windows 10. It is free.
Edit: link here:?
says it has versions for Windows, Mac and Linux"
and she reports that it worked.

AND, the CEO of Bluprint?has posted on Twitter and apparently on their website that they are looking into solutions for those who purchased what they called 'forever' classes.?

Right now I have downloaded the classes that I want to keep onto my iPad and will investigate the options for recording. This will only give you the resolution that your computer display is capable of so you may not then be able to watch it on a larger TV/display without pixelation. So if they provide a download option,. that will be better as that is HD.?

There are multiple threads on Ravelry but the one on Demon Trolls (which is a pretty tech savvy and is focused on unearthing things regarding fiber businesses that take advantage of people or provide poor service.??is particularly helpful.?

Yes, my only Facebook activity these days is to admin a page I manage.?

I am finding Ravelry extremely helpful with people posting links to interesting information in other groups. I discovered the Demon Trolls thread via a thread in Warped Weavers linking to a thread in UK Knitters which linked to the Demon Trolls thread. I also am keeping an eye on the one in Needlework News and Events.

For Mac devices, you also can do a screen recording using QuickTime. You do need to down load the free sound flower driver. Then you set your output as soundflower 64 instead of the computer. You won’t be able to hear the audio while the movie is running, but it will be captured in the screen recording.

The last super easy, platform non-specific option would be to start a zoom meeting, turn off your video, hit record, share screen and select the crafty movie as the share, then start it playing. One nice thing about this is it will generate an integrated MP4 movie, and also an audio only track, for things that you are just as happy to listen to only.

So one thing I discovered is that OBS Studio will record at a higher resolution than your computer display. So if you want to save it that way, it works.?

The sound flower plugin was the other one I mentioned, jacqui. I didn't actually say sound flower.?

The Zoom meeting idea is excellent for those who don't want to play with other stuff.

btw, I am planning on recording the classes I don't want to lose. I'll wait for whatever Bluprint?comes up with for the others but I don't trust them to come up with something. Recording them takes time as all these are real-time recordings. A 30 min class will take 30 mins unlike a download.?

Thanks for posting the link to that exchange, Mary. It's sad that so many people immediately assumed Bluprint would have to be "held to account" instead of waiting to see what they said about an option to download. Glad to hear that's not the case, as seemed likely to me in the first place.

Therese,
There are reasons why people are suspicious. There was a press release and teachers were notified after the press release. They are still selling subscriptions on their website. The letter from the CEO on the website came a day after the press release.

imho, the press release and an email to all subscribers and purchasers should have been done concurrently and the website should have had a notice on the website at the same time. People can still buy a sub for a month to learn something - there is nothing wrong with selling them. But people have bought an annual subscription?recently and are concerned that they are out of luck.?

p.s. I should add that their track record isn't all that great. When they first started, you could download classes. They took that away with no notice to anyone. A lot of yelling and screaming on Ravelry finally got them to provide a link and 2 weeks to download classes for those who had bought them prior to that announcement. If you weren't in the loop, you missed out on downloading those classes. People who had slower speed connections wanted more time but it wasn't given.

People have long memories.

There is plenty of time to see what they do.? It may not matter what their terms of service are, actually.? It may not matter that they require mandatory arbitration if there's a dispute either.

Their guarantee of owning the classes forever was a big part of their marketing. In fact it was mentioned in each ad that I ever saw. I think the Consumer Affairs of our Attorney General's Office might be interested in exploring this if the company fails to allow purchasers to content that they reasonably believed they had purchased forever.?

If content is not available to those who believed they purchased it, that's, arguably, an unfair and deceptive trade practice triggering treble damages plus costs and attorneys fees under our state law.? This is a powerful tool to obtain fair treatment when the consumer is being unjustly steamrolled by a big company.

I agree. there is plenty of time. However, don't be surprised if they are unable to do it. I don't know what their contracts with their instructors are but if rights revert back to the instructors then they have to get agreement from them to allow downloads and some instructors might want to retain the content and not make if available.?

I am an optimist but I am also a belt-and-suspenders type person so I am planning to download the really important classes while waiting for them. Others that I can do without, I will wait to see what they come up with.
