Re: End of an era for me

When I got my current loom, which required more space in the one room I have for crafts, I gave the local weaving guild four boxes of knitting books. I used to buy all the “hot” books but realized I would never knit anything from them. I kept the Starmores, the Rowans and Kaffe, the lace books, the Japanese books and the stitch dictionaries and gave the rest away. I do however still have VKs going back to 1981 (including the first one when they started publishing) and an awful lot of classic IKs. And now I have weaving books taking up space on the shelves. The Guild, I hope, made some money on that donation.?

We had planned to eat there, but the smells were overwhelming (and not in a good way). No one was eating. . . 2 bottles of water. $6. But the weather was beautiful. There were a couple of vendors at the far edges that were selling Confederate flags and such, and one that offered photos by what supposedly was the sign from a former Atlantic City casino and a cardboard cut-out of the former owner of said casino. We declined.

We went to t he fair on Thursday to check out how well (or not) I did. Very pleased to report that every single entry placed!

?

I got 22 first place, 12 second place, and 5 third place ribbons. Quite the haul.

?

As always, I was surprised by some of the places, like my felted purse. (It is a “dumpling”—a square with straps that through clever folding and strappage, becomes a small handbag. It was all opened up and displayed flat<?>. Placed 3rd). My infant blanket (Old Shale white baby shawl) was displayed wrong-side out. Whatever.

?

Anyway, that’s the story on the competition.

?

We had planned to eat there, but the smells were overwhelming (and not in a good way). No one was eating. . . 2 bottles of water. $6. But the weather was beautiful. There were a couple of vendors at the far edges that were selling Confederate flags and such, and one that offered photos by what supposedly was the sign from a former Atlantic City casino and a cardboard cut-out of the former owner of said casino. We declined.

Thanks, Mary. As I finish ‘em, I toss into a tote.? I also keep a check list. The one entry I made was in danger of being outgrown before the judging, so it was already given away (at Christmas).

Great to have received so many excellent recognitions.? We all know how fickle that can be.? It's always confounding and amusing to see how strangely the items are displayed.? That is a focus of fascination to me b/c most real knitters will spot the errors right away.

Other than the craft exhibits - no way I'm going to hang out at a fair.? Too many people aimlessly drifting around and weird odors from the cooking stations.? I've always been that way.

Congratulations - I am in awe b/c you are so productive.

Mary.
