Hello fellow rowers:

Some of us woke up this morning to the beautiful and surprising sight of snow falling, but we're clearly approaching spring since it melted as soon as it fell.

And that means it's time to mark your calendars for the first social event for YRC scullers:

The Annual Boathouse Cleanup!

WHEN AND WHERE AND WHY: Saturday May 3 (rain date Sunday May 4) at our treasured boathouse, from 9am - 11am. Its windows and floors need cleaning, bathrooms need scrubbing, cobwebs need removal, club boats need washing, and everything needs tidying up. But above all, we need to say hi to each other and generally share being giddy with excitement about the start of the rowing season.

FOOD: As is the tradition, coffee and tea will be provided. And you're invited to bring food or drink to share while we work.

PREPARE: Be sure to come dressed to work. I will be bringing a vacuum and window washing pole. Feel free to bring whatever items you need to work comfortably--gloves, bucket, rags, sponge, etc.

If you can't make the date and would like to help out in advance, please just tackle one of the tasks on your own like cleaning one of the bathrooms. Please contact me (contact info below) and let me know your intentions or ask me what you can do if a bathroom cleanup is not appealing to you.

If it's raining or snowing on May 3, we'll adjust the date to the next day, May 4. I'll be in touch if this becomes a threatening reality.

Boathouse Clean Up date is Saturday, May 3rd (not the 4th). More detailed info will be in forthcoming correspondence.

We will keep you posted on the opening of the boathouse, which will be contingent on the river flow and the water temperature.

Hi Everyone!

We are forwarding along the 2025 YRC Application. As you will see, the membership dues and fees have increased slightly - an additional $20 for membership and $20 for rack space. This slight increase is to meet our increased expenses; rent has gone up and membership numbers have changed over the years.

Thank you for sending the application, waiver, and your payment to YRC’s new mailing address, noted on the Application (P.O. Box 1451, Northampton, MA 01061-1451) BEFORE your rowing season begins. Each member is required to complete this process before taking your/a boat out on the river.

We look forward to sending out an email soon regarding the opening of the boathouse and the 2024 season. Until then, the YRC Board looks forward to seeing those who can make it on Saturday, May 4th from 9:00-11:00 for our Annual Boathouse Clean Up.

We also wanted to take this opportunity to remind folks that the Yankee Rowing Club website is a great resource. (https://galleryofreaders.org/yankeerowing/). While we will open the club for boat usage once the flow drops below 20 kcfs, we urge you to regularly check the water flow before rowing, as it can fluctuate throughout the season. Hope to see you soon! May this be a glorious rowing season for all!

Thanks for an informative Board meeting last night. It is always great to see folks and learn what's new for the coming year. Just wanted to send along an invitation to anyone who is itching to get on the water to join Spring Adult Rowing at NCR. The 10 week session runs from March 31 to June 6 for $600. We offer discounts for folks over 70 or under 25 as well. Here is the link to our adult programs.

From time to time I have explored the matter of a more entry-to-mid-level double, for training, recreational rowing and the like. Such a boat would also take the pinch off the racing double we have.

They also provide a rougher water option.

I think Eric has had Explorer boats from Wintech if I recall correctly. I rowed the single years ago in the early am rec-Charles and liked it well.

I think it is worth considering as a next step, as it allows members of varying abilities to row together, support each other and build our community.

I have not seen other of this ilk. Although perhaps

Free virtual yoga class for rowers

Hi Yankee Rowers,

I wanted to share some information about a free virtual yoga class for rowers that I recently discovered. It meets weekly from 6-7 pm and is led by a physical therapist who also rows. She's even started recording the classes so you can participate at your convenience.

All of the participants are masters rowers, creating a very supportive environment for anyone who needs to make modifications or adjustments due to injuries. I've been enjoying it and thought you might too. Info is below!

Yoga for Rowers has been taken over by RowNC (a 501(c)3) with the benefit that it is now COMPLETELY Free for anybody to participate.

The class is taught by Laura Terry. Laura has a BA in Exercise and Sport Science, has been a Physical Therapist since 1998, and a yoga teacher since 2008. She teaches yoga with the biomechanics of rowing in mind and offers adaptations to make the practice accessible. As our PT she treats many rowers and is well aware of our sufferings and designs Yoga for Rowers to prevent them.
