Do we have a list off all the errors in the calibration manual? 5
I'm asking this question basically to see how people have approached the filter and VCA tuning discrepancies in the service manual. I've read several different opinions on them, but have yet to find a consensus or a correct answer. I've got two CS-80s here right now to experiment on. One of them I probably calibrated somewhat wrong over a decade ago and could probably use a new calibration. Here's the latest take: https://mfoxhd.blogspot.com/2016/01/calibration-3-m-boards.html Thoughts? -Mike Borish borishelectronics.com

How long can your CS80 go until the need of recalibrating the oscillators? 9
Hi All, since there seems to come back some life into the group, I was always wondering about one thing: Before I had a CS80 I was always reading about what a headache the machine is regarding staying in tune over time. Some technician even told me once that just by moving it around in the room detuned some oscillators. I haven't made that experience. Actually I calibrated mine from ground up, which was quite a ride that will cost me a few years of my lifespan, but I learned a lot. I documented it, mainly for myself if I have to ever do it again :) , in case of interest : https://mfoxhd.blogspot.com/ Anyway, I calibrated mine in 2016, meanwhile I also moved to another apartment. I recently checked how good it is in tune and it is slightly detuned here and there, but it is not bad and I cannot really hear it when playing. I wonder about my fellow CS80 owners what experience they make or made regarding this. Michael

GX80 virtual synth! 3
Hi all! It's been quite a while but this is some big and great news. Cherry Audio just released the GX80 soft synth for Windows and Mac (stand-alone and plug-in). It models the CS80 and also adds a bunch of features from the GX1! I've only been using it a short time and don't currently have a poly-aftertouch keyboard (thinking of a Hydrasynth) but it looks and sounds amazing. I've found a bug in their Sustain-II implementation and reported it on their user forum and almost immediately got a reply that the issue was sent to their tech folks. But they did do the ribbon correctly with the usual pitch bend and the special CS80 response. I only wish they had added a solo manual channel that could either emulate the GX1's solo or an SY2. Please check it out and let us all know what you think of it. David https://cherryaudio.com/products/gx-80

CS-80: an "almost" unwanted portamento 12
Hi everyone, I hope you are all well. I have strange behavior on my CS-80. On the fourth voice (therefore cascading on both M14 and M24 cards) there is a portamento that occurs as soon as I press the key .. if I stay on that key and continue to play (therefore switching on the other voices) when I pass through the fourth voice nothing happens and the behavior is normal .. if instead I change the note as soon as I return to the fourth voice (so on M14-M24) here is the portamento! I state that the portamento is disabled, on the CS-80 all the old CMOS, OP-AMPs, ELECTROLYTIC CAPACITORS and TANTALUM have been changed. The problem, given the behavior, I would say that it is before of the two M cards. I checked the values on the KAS, on the S / H and in doubt also on TRG4 boards (I wanted to remove the doubt that it wasn't an initial-pitchbend problem, but in this case it should have always been portamento on the fourth voice, right?). The values on these boards are the reference values for the calibration .. Where could I inquire? Could it be a problem with some RC network? Thanks anyway for your time!

Replacing bulb on Yamaha CS-80 expression pedal? 15
Greetings fellow synth travelers, So, I finally found an original expression pedal for my CS-80 after many years of searching...and it doesn't work. I understand there's a 24v5w bulb in there and thought perhaps it has burned out, anyone here have any experience opening these pedals up and replacing the bulb? Any hints and help greatly appreciated! Mathias

GX1 / CS80 video 2
Hi all! I ran across this Led Zeppelin video last night about In Through The Out Door. It has a surprising amount about the wonderful Dream Machine including the ELP and Abba connections. This link should jump right to where they start talking about it. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/-g8Dq45nZOI?t=779 David

M Board problem - heat related. 6
Hi guys, So one of my M Boards (°4 on CH I) goes silent after a warm up. I have established that the tuning goes down to the point that it's not auditable. The problems that it is almost Impossible to trace because when I take it out for inspection it cools down and sounds ok again (in tune! ). Here is what I did so far: 1. Cleaned VCO's legs and applied fresh heat conducting agent between the IC and the diode. 2. I have bought that I have the same issue as MFox (described here https://mfoxhd.blogspot.com/2016/01/ta7504m-replacement-ua741.html) so I have changed the IC3. Did not work... As I sad the problem is diagnostics. Did anyone have a similar problem?

Cs80 parts 2
Hey guys, Just wondering if anyone has a husked cs80. I’m looking for two parts. Specifically the glove box door that covers the “memories” faderbank, and one leaf key contact. Both are pictures below. Thanks in advance! Michael

Tech recommendations in or around Los Angeles 2
Hi folks, I’ll finally be moving my CS80 down the coast to my new home in LA in a couple of months, and I’ve been thinking of giving it a long overdue ‘spa treatment’—replacing decaying caps/CMOS chips and hopefully eliminating a few minor aftertouch gremlins in the process. Does anyone know who the trustworthy/non-CS80phobic technicians are in this part of the world? Thanks in advance. ?

CS80 Tuning Problems 6
Hello everyone, I have a CS80 that recently developed a tuning problem with one voice. The repair shop that worked on it a few years ago thought it might be a calibration issue. I just got it back from the shop and the one voice is still not in tune when I first power up, but about 15 or 20 after the CS has warmed up, it stabilizes and is in tune. Since I never had this problem before I am thinking there is still something that needs to be fixed or replaced. Just wondering what insights any of you might have regarding this problem? Thanks in advance for your help! Best regards, Alex

ISO: CS-80 For Sale
I have a serious buyer looking for a CS-80, preferably in the USA if anybody's aware of one for sale. Please contact me at synthRodriguez@... if you know of anything available. And as usual I'm personally always on the prowl for CS-50, 60, 80 spare parts or carcasses, regardless of condition. Thanks! Scott

Power switch styles 5
Does anybody know the history of the CS-80 power switch? Mine has a narrow black rocker switch with an integrated light. However, I've seen many pictures of other CS-80's (and 60's and 50's) with a square-ish white rocker switch and separate light. I'm wondering if the style changed sometime during production, or if these were different for 110/220 units. Just curious. Richard

SynthOffenders - Tim Coniff - BUYER BEWARE 4
Unfortunate to do this here but I feel the need to put out a public warning against this guy. He charged me around $300 for one of his unison boards and has come up with nothing but a bunch of excuses. Synthoffenders is the name he's now operating under and thumbing his nose and the trail of honest buyers that have fallen for his scams. Understand that his is not some seller whom forgot to send an item but a guy whom shared a load of BS about hard times, proceeded to send me a pic of a shipping box with my details on it, and then not send the package!
