CS-50/CS-60 CV mods possible?
pinky
Howdy. This is my first post. I hope someone can help... I did some digging online and it seems like it's possible to add CV inputs to the CS 50 and 60. Sounds like some people have done it and there's a link in the comments on the CS-60 page on VSE to a fleabay auction that had the CV mods. Anyone have any info? Any techs done it? I don't really wanna MIDI my 50 up for a few different reasons but CV/gate would be amazing for getting it talking with my other gear. Cheers, |
开云体育Welcome Karl! What are you trying to do with this? ?The CV path on the CSXX are pretty weird. ?Also, the VCOs are Hz/volt, not volt/oct so they won’t interface/track with most gear. ?This could get really complicated so take some time to figure out what you want to be able to do. ?David On Jun 12, 2014, at 12:55 PM, pinky pinksoir@... Thanks mr. Yeah it's just the pitch CV I'd be looking for. That's a bummer that it's not so easy. I wouldn't be doing it myself, I'd bring it to a tech if that makes any difference. I don't really want to put a MIDI kit into it, for a few reasons, one of which is the cost...

That's aAdding voltage inputs for each voice to a polyphonic CS is not a big technical problem. But the real question is: what will be the source that will control this modified Synth? The CS-Series is V/Hz not V/Oct. So you'd need an external voltage-source, which produces a V/Hz characteristics. Beside Yamahas own monophonic CS-Synths and Korgs MS10, MS20, and SQ10 I wouldn't know any keyboard, that is suitable. Some polyphonic MIDI interfaces like the big Kenton, Doepfer MCV24 or the EES CV7 can produce V/Hz voltages - but in this case you will be in the range of a $500-device (minimum). So: an integrated MIDI-interface makes most sense. Florian |

Hi Florian, Thanks for the reply. I use Expert Sleepers Silent Way to control my Hz/V synths. It is capable of producing up to 6 CVs for polyphony. I currently use it to control my MS20 and CS15. It converts MIDI messages into CV via my DC coupled audio interface (modified Presonus Firepod). There is also a dedicated euro rack module available for it.?

So is it doable? Has anyone done it before? On Jun 13, 2014 12:34 PM, "pinky" <pinksoir@...> wrote:

Hi. So I've contacted my local synth tech and he said he'd look into doing it for me but asked if I had any links for what to do. Does anyone have any links or schematics for adding CV for pitch? Cheers. On Jun 16, 2014 7:07 PM, "pinky" <pinksoir@...> wrote:

In my opinion this is not the best idea. There aren't too many of these machines out there, they are easy to break, and as others have said the voice control system isn't all that straight forward, and linear. In fact there are less CS-50s and CS-60s out there than 80's from what I know. Its kind of one of those 'if you have to ask it isn't a good idea' scenarios. Just my 2c, and not just as a historical purist, they just don't really lend themselves to modification

If a tech isn't able to find the the right place for the mod in service manual, then he is not the right tech. It does not mean, that he is a bad technician, but he is not knowledged in the polyphonic CS-Series. You wouldn't bring a Ferrari to a Toyota Garage for repair... Florian |

Thanks. The tech in question has over 30 years experience and has serviced CS synths before. He has agreed to look at doing the mod, so just wants any information currently available to be provided if possible. Of course if either of us feels uncomfortable going forward with the mods then it won't go ahead.
