New member, new cs50 owner
Geetings from Canada. I've just purchased a cs50 with some "touch control" mechanical problems. I'm wondering if anyone can snap a pic to help me re-build mine. The part I need to see is the metal bracket that functions as the "shutter" between the photosensor and the bulb. Hope that makes sense. Best, |
Re: OT: Supplemental Booklets etc.
Daniel Forró
Some time ago I have scanned DX7 II Supplemental booklets contributed by some members of YamahaDX yahoo group, our college Rawl Gelinas processed scans and now all of them are for public use officially (together with AfterTouch magazine we two have scanned). Still some booklets are missing: Quick Reference Guide Modifying Preset Voices Understanding Fractional Scalings Programming Fractional Scalings Memory Management Advanced Midi Applications Yamaha published in the end of 80ies also "QX3 Operations & Applications Supplemental Booklet", and some guidebooks for V50 synthesizer: Performance Voicing Guidebook Rhythm Programming Guidebook Sequencer Guidebook (+ Demo Data Disk) If by chance somebody here has anything from these, and is willing to sell, contribute or just lend for scanning (I will pay for shipment in all cases), everybody can later get it as PDF - same case as the previous material we have scanned and published. Thanks for any info or contribution. Daniel Forro |
Re: Complete VCF Alignment
I wonder about this too. I have been in touch with JM while calibrating my CS-80 and after a few days of experimentation and discussion we have different findings.?
I had trouble on two voice boards to go up to 8.4Vpp for HPF resonance, so I decided to take the value from the CS-60 manual and go for the 7.6Vpp as instructed there. Not sure what the right value for a CS-80 is or where it starts to sound wrong. Also instruction for the 2.2Vpp for LPF cutoff does not seem right. If I want to go for 2.2Vpp I have to dial the trimpot almost full to the end. The original value gave me a reading of 1.4-1.6Vpp, so I did the same as JM and used 1.6Vpp. I wonder about the other guys who work on CS-80s how you handle this part or what your findings are? |
Re: CS80 tuning VCO
Hi Doug,
Hope you are well.
Do you currently have any IG00153 VCOs for sale? I need one.

So the problem is with the IG00153 VCO chips you think? I still have a few in stock if you want any...?
---In yamahacs80@..., <yamahacs80@...> wrote: Hi. Thanks for your reply. On your advice I did replace the caps on the S/H board which got rid of some unwanted crackling. Then ?went back and re-calibrated the power supply, S/H and KAS boards. Which I had already done, but the tolerances are small and some were out. Also the transposition gate zeroing on each voice shifted a bit (0mv between cp6 and EK). The tuning was then better, but still three or four voices were 20 or 30 cents flat on the lower octaves on the 8 and 16 feet ranges. Eventually I tried swapping the VCO chips around and found the fault moved with the VCOs. So I think I cannot improve it any more.

I have that very?problem with my CS80, and the interview I was referring to dealt with a CS80, hence my remark.

Decoupling caps are never a bad place to start looking though. They must be 40 years old. ?
Illuminated push buttons? There aren't any illuminated push buttons on a CS50?

Re: HIgh Pitched Whine
Don't take my word for it, I can only vaguely remember what was written in the interview. I seem to remember that it had something to do with the illuminated push buttons as well.

Maybe some other German-speaking member of this group has the issue at hand?

Not had the time to investigatefor a while, but am aiming to get stuck in again next month. Reckon the fitst thing to do is look at decoupling caps.
Bane of my life this CS ;-)

Re: HIgh Pitched Whine
A while ago there was a report on a German synth collector/musician in KEYBOARDS magazine in which he described this problem. He had some decoupling capacitors replaced which fixed the problem -- maybe someone could look up more accurate details?

Re: OT Xmas music
开云体育Just wanted to say that I too browsed your channel last week and the Pastorale was a highlight for me as well. Nicely played, and some nice tones to go with it from your (is that a) Yamaha (?). Cheers. On Dec 27, 2015, at 5:42 PM, David Rogoff david@... [yamahacs80] <yamahacs80@...> wrote:

Re: Complete VCF Alignment
Hello,
I recently decided to calibrate the filters of the master boards. Since the values on page 11 of the service manual are wrong, I made a few trials and finally chose the settings visible .? What values are you using when you do a complete VCF alignment? Perhaps one of you owns a copy of the service manual where the right values were added by a technician in the past? Thanks for your answers and merry Christmas to all! |
