I want to buy two M-Card Voices.

Hi all:
I'm looking for two M-Card Voices for CS-50/60/80 for a restauration.
I'm from Argentina (South America) an will pay with Paypal.
I already traded (sell and buy) with other members of the group that will put a good word on me (if you look on old posts they already did it).
Thank you.

Sebastian

Hi!

I've got my CS-50 and a few other items up for sale. For the CS-50 and Rhodes, local pickup in Atlanta, GA or arrange your own crating/shipping.

Thanks!

fun CS-80 repair - noisy voice card

Just got done fixing a CS-80 with a noisy voice card. The owner noticed a lot of hiss on Channel I, even when not playing any notes. Had to disconnect each card's output wire to pin it down to voice 3. Then started tracing and swapping. Turned out to be the generic NPN output transistor on the board. Conveniently, there are 5 other of the same type on the board, including 4 used in the octave switching. Swapped with one of those - where the noise doesn't cause any audible effect and it's all good!

Back to the freeways and another CS-80 (and a billion other projects) waiting at home! Can't complain too much since it's sunny and in the high 70s with a nice breeze :)

Re: Sources of key contacts for Yamaha CS-80

Hi,

Could anyone recommend some Yamaha instruments that are good sources of replacement key contacts for the CS-80? I heard from a tech that a CP-30 was a good source because had identical key contacts, so I bought one and tried to use it for that purpose. However, the tech turned out to be incorrect, as the CS-80 uses a side-by-side pair of contacts per key, while the CP-30 only has one contact per key, and the contacts are immovably fixed in the plastic mold.
Mitchell,

let us know if you find something, but I'd bet that none of the CS-80's keybed parts were used on any other synth :(

Re: Lowest Octave CS80 stopped working again and now it works again - any ideas?

Thank you everybody for your input, especially to Ken who works on so many devices and takes the time to look into this too :)

I have an update on this: quick fix or "lucky" me this time. Basically, I had the same problem a couple of hours ago where the notes of the lower octave did not work. What I did was leave it on for an extra hour and tried again and still nothing worked. I decided, lucky me, to press one/two of keys of lower octave (that did not make any sound) and move the ribbon at the same time and voila I heard a sound. So now everything works again, hopefully this will do next time this happens. Maybe the ribbon was stuck or has a glitch. A mystery!

I will update if this "fix" works next time this issue occurs.

When you say "full re-chip" David are you also including all the custom IG and YM chips?
Nope - just the 4000 CMOS and the op-amps.

Where on earth would you find them all..?
That's my problem: I've been limiting my search to earth :)

Re: Anyone going to NAMM? Things to look for?

Here are some photos from NAMM, including the aforementioned new products
as well as lots of modulars, a peek inside a Mellotron, the new Fairlight
CMI-30A, and the new Elektron Analog Four:

Might be more appropriate to put on some hospital scrubs and wheel it around on a gurney! At the very least, this would stand as a more accurate demonstration of the CS80's main "feature" as a fussy 35-year-old synth. ;)

Thanks for the NAMM updates, David. I gotta say, with its $599 list price, that Mini MS-20 strikes me as a no-brainer, even if it ends up suffering from a VCA section that's a bit too clean for its own good, as modern analogs often do.

It was a joke, although it would be fun to try!

Ha! If you decide to do that David, I'd be there like a shot to help you..! That would be classic...;c)

By the way, what's the name of the new MS20..? I'd like to 'Google' it!

Cheers,

Re: Anyone going to NAMM? Things to look for?

New version of Buchla Music Easel. Should be interesting to say the least -

New Prophet 12 from Dave Smith -

Not sure, but looks like oscillators are VA but filter is real analog.

New Moog I-Can't-Get-Myself-to-type-the-name analog synth -

Can they please put a 3rd VCO and a 4-octave keyboard on this???

The Korg Mini MS-20

Arturia Mini Brute -

I really wish these guys had a bunch more engineers and programmers so they could finish and upgrade all the great ideas they have.

I don't see anything interesting, synth-wise from Yamaha or Roland.

I'm making sure my camera batteries are charged up for tomorrow!

David

Anyone going to NAMM? Things to look for?

Hi all!

I managed to get a NAMM pass!!! I was planning on going Friday afternoon and maybe on the weekend. Anyone else going to be there?

Looks like Korg is coming out with a new version of the MS-20 that is all analog! Plus adds MIDI. Come on Yamaha; where's the new CS-80???

Of course, I'll check out all the "boutique" analog and modular guys and the bigger companies too - although they're just VA now. The Buchla synths are always amazing and I got to talk with Don a bit a couple of years ago.

Anyway, if you're going or know of cool stuff to check out there, let me - and all of us - know!

David
