Hello Murilo,

It is cruel to say, but I think owning a CS80 without having a competent tech within reach does not make real sense. When you say, that you had it repaired already, while you owned it, then it sounds like a CS80-technician is availble basically at least. So the question is: Is there no CS80-technician in Brazil at all, or is it "only" difficult to get a repair session at him? Whether a Arp2600 is a suitable exchange for a broken CS80 is questionable. The ARP would have to be in absolute perfect shape optically and technically. And still then it will be a loss. A perfect ARP2600 is maybe worth $5000, the repair of the CS80 in the UK or the US might cost $3000 or $4000 including shipping. And $8000-$9000 for a restored CS80 is a very low price. Re: Yamaha CS-60 issues: sub osc LFO > VCO not working + random bad notes
Thank you so much!! I found the toggle switch and flipped it other direction, and sure enough the LFO > VCO slider now affects the sound! :)? Thankfully no fix is required... now to keep my eyes on the "bad note" problem and see if I can narrow it down... Cheers

Re: Yamaha CS-60 issues: sub osc LFO > VCO not working + random bad notes
Thanks for the reply... do you mean the MIDI kit adds a toggle switch for LFO > VCO modulation? If so, where would I find that switch to change it back? The seller showed me an emergency switch for MIDI off/reset in case of stuck notes, but never a toggle switch to control LFO > VCO modulation from sub oscillator.

Yamaha CS-60 issues: sub osc LFO > VCO not working + random bad notes
Hi all, I have a Yamaha CS-60 I recently acquired from a local seller that has MIDI kit installed.? 1. Upon testing I noticed the sub oscillator LFO > VCO slider does not work/effect the sound (however, LFO > VCF and LFO > VCA do work fine).? What is the likely culprit for this and how easy is it to fix? 2. I notice after getting the synth home and playing it for awhile, that intermittent random bad notes would happen when playing the keys. It doesn't seem to matter what keys and it seems to happen randomly... ie after a few minutes or after 20 minutes.? As an example, if I'm playing a scale and I hit one of the keys (ie a middle C), that will give a severely out of tune note. Coming back to the key immediately after and its in tune again.? Any ideas what could cause random bad note behaviour across the keyboard? It doesn't seem to be a specific voice, but I have no idea what is triggering a bad note to occur randomly. Perhaps the MIDI retrofit messed something up, or when the synth was transported to my place the voice cards got jiggled around from bumpy driving? Any suggestions on where to look for fixing this/effort required would be most welcome. I'd need to take it to a tech and hoping it won't be an expensive fix.? Thanks. |
WTB - Yamaha CS-70M
Hello all,? I'm a longtime lurker but wanted to say thanks for this group -- its a treasure trove of information and resources.?I love vintage Yamaha synths and have a few myself -- CS-30, CS-50/60, CS-40M, SK-30.? I've been looking to acquire a Yamaha CS-70M and was wondering if anyone might have one for sale. If so, please drop me a line to discuss. I also have a fair number of other synths I may be willing to part with if there's interest in a trade + cash deal.? I'm based in western Canada (BC) if shipping is required. If you happen to be in BC, Alberta, or Washington state/Oregon I'm also willing to drive a fair distance to acquire one.? Thanks so much... hope to hear from you.? |

Re: CS50 Calibration
Tom S. from this list originally ran me through this process. This is my version of his notes (thanks Tom!)
You can probably skip sections 1 and 2: the 4volts on the KAS board and the '0'volts on each individual 'M' board. Try first to go straight for the tuning procedure. The 'M' board tuning is mainly done with the VR3 and VR2 - this is a VERY important part. This is the SCALE or SPREAD of the keyboard from one end to the other. You MUST understand this. It is very similar to setting the bridge on a guitar where the distance from either end where the strings are need to be exactly the same distance from the 12th fret. Instructions (The following is done FOR EACH VOICE CARD - separately): Plug your output into a tuner Turn on the synth and let it warm up - at least 20 -30 minutes before starting. Use the FLUTE patch or the panel. If the panel, turn everything off and just use sine wave with an envelope set to sustain it as long as I have a key pressed. Set to Oct Up position Center the tuning knob Play a high note - the Yamaha service notes say a high C, but you could use the highest A for example. Use a plastic/ceramic trimmer - not a metal screwdriver - as it will affect the pitch. You can get plastic trimmers from electronic wholesalers etc. You can also make one by cutting an old credit card etc. As long as in the highest transposition you adjust VR3 (little blue multi-turn preset) on a note at the HIGH end of the keyboard Then adjust VR2 while playing a note on the LOWER end of the keyboard, again, 'C' or 'A'. Remember - it is the SCALE or SPREAD you are adjusting here. Every adjustment will affect the other one, and you will need to go back and forth between high note (VR3) and low note (VR2) until no more adjusting seems necessary. Then move on and do the same for the other transpositions. I am assuming here that you know and understand how to establish which voice card is playing. I usually switch the synth off and on again. My CS makes a little beep sound when it is ready to go. The first key hit will be voice card 1. If you get lost, switch off and on again, just to make sure. To get voice 4 (for example) hit one key 3 times, then hold the third hit down while simultaneously adding the next note for voice 4. Release key for voice 3. Continue holding voice 4 and tune your trimmer while doing so One point - the Yamaha manual says you can TOUCH the track to hear the distortion, so you know which voice card you are on.... DO NOT DO THIS .... you could blow the VCO chip!!!!! Turn off/on... voice 1 is the first note pressed. Sometimes you will hear a slight distortion as you put your hand - or screwdriver - near the presets - but DO NOT try to touch and tracks on purpose...! Static can kill chips. best - DT |

开云体育Hello Roby, get the service manual for the CS-50: it contains a complete adjustment procedure. or (don't get worried about the cs80 naming of the sub folder) Florian On 20.10.17 22:01 , roby.mx@... [yamahacs80] wrote: ? |
CS50 Calibration
Hello,
first all, thank you for approval of my membership in the group. I'm a owner of a CS50, that I purchased recently. The synth need a complete calibration, and I want to ask you what is the best documentation to do this. I've seen that there is an adjustment procedure document for the CS80, but I haven't found a similar document for CS50. For what I've understand some parts are common in the two synths (e.g. the Voice cards), but I'm not sure if it is correct to follow the adjustment procedure described in the CS80 doc. Thank you very much for your help! Roby (Italy) |
Re: IG00150, ribbon controller and levers
开云体育Thank you so much for the instructions. What I am worried is damaging the felt covering. How or what did you use to pull it up? It seems very well glued in there.Regards John

Re: IG00150, ribbon controller and levers
开云体育Here’s the instructions I used when I replaced one several years ago. Worked great.?There is nothing very special you?need to do the ribbon spring.? First remove the Flock or felt covering. Remove the end tags from each end from the old spring to leave the hole exsposed in the tag for the new spring. Bend the each end of the spring?(use the old?as a template)?was and insert the old tags and solder into place. Place in the ribbon caseing and rescrew the two halves back together starting one end and working your way across to the other end. Do not screw tight untill all the screws are back in and you are happy with the position of the spring. Put a curcuit tester on each end and test the action of the spring by pressing here and there along it's length (do not slide you finger along it). Once happy with that, replace the Flock covering and glue in place useing a contact adhesive. On Sep 21, 2017, at 9:21 PM, joaopaulosilva12@... [yamahacs80] <yamahacs80@...> wrote:
