Kent, I will take that statement out of the e-bay listing. I don't want to mislead anyone. Thanks for calling my attention to this. ?Tim? On Tuesday, September 15, 2015 3:52 PM, "Kent spong kent_spong@... [yamahacs80]" wrote:

Hello I got hold of an CS-50 in a quite "uncared" state. As first thing, I am searching for the two pairs of long screws, which hold the panel and the keyboard. Assumingly I will have to help myself with a threaded rod, but first I want to try to them here. Thanks! Florian |

True but won't ever happen @ a sane price point like $199.? Kent charges well over $1200 USD for the same functionality I offer. ?To accomplish what you're saying requires separate mods from the points? used.... or, approach from a different perspective. Is the mod always in the dynamic voice allocation mode? I used to have a CS60 with a mod with switches to select normal, 2-voices per key, 4-voices per key, and full unison modes. I think it would be more useful to have a way to select how many voices are stacked. Dpig? synthparts.com

Re: BY now many of you have probably seen....
... the description addendum says it is a diy modification, I provide the finished product, you install it, with or without soldering, ....it is available either way.The mod itself... It is pictured in the video. ?The CS series keyboards are not easily moddable.... that is to say they don't provide jumpers, posts, extra connectors, or any real expansion minded spots on their designs. So it's not ever going to be an easy plug and play.... no matter what you do with the cs's, you have to make connections in some way, not just slap in a connector where there's a spot waiting for it. That being said, I have made as easy as possible for those who don't solder to still do their own install. For the truly unconfident they would hire a tech to install it, but it really isn't necessary On Sunday, September 13, 2015 2:03 PM, "tconno@... [yamahacs80]" wrote:

I have formed a CAD designed board to accomplish offering a sync mod for the CS's... yes, all 3 of the 50,60 &80. It's listed on e-bay, but thanks to millions in recent medical bills and more surgeries for my wife, I can't pop the dough for the qty needed. ?I am able to provide working protos, but that's not logical as it takes hrs to hard wire it all up. If any of you haven't seen this, here's the e-bay link:
Hopefully, there's enough of you who appreciate the accessibility of this mod, cause until now, they cost a ton from Kent, plus you have to send your baby off to get it done. Hope you folks want some of these, I wiull only need about 10 days to stuff and ship the finished boards !

? I did a big overhaul of a CS-50 including:
?
Change of all CMOS.
Recap of all Caps (ceramics, mylars, Polystyrene, tantalum and aluminium electrolytics changed to Panasonic FC series)
Changed all open type trimers for closed multi turn one?s.
Total recalibration
installed Kenton MIDI kit.
?
Now it stays rock solid in tune.
?
Have a CS-60 and a 50 at home for the same work.
Noticed CS-60 has all IG chips in low cost sockets (They will be desoldered and replaced by
high quality gold plated one?s)
?
Also have done a complete socket change on a memorymoog with one voice
dropping out of the autotune routine, with new sockets for all the CMOS and Analog IC?s
the voice will not be dropped but still is quite out of tune. It did have a few other issues which
are now gone with the socket upgrade.
?
Just some ideas for your CS-50.

Re: CS 50 due for overhaul: Any pointers?
hi, maybe this page is of interest, some good hints for repair there.
my cs60 is still working perfect, but i?m also thinking about changing some parts. especially the (standard) ic?s on the KAS and old capacitor (on the PSU) should be changed, this also should solve your problems. michael |

Two things...
Hi folks, Long time no posting on here... but I thought I'd return to ask a question and also share an idea.... I have recently revisited a duff voice card in one of my CS80's... it was low in pitch and wouldn't pull in via the tuning calibration procedure. After fault finding around the transposition gate area and finding nothing, I bit the bullet and replaced the Osc chip. That cured it... i was really hoping it wasn't that, I even lifted the Osc chip out and was still getting the same fault condition voltages on CP6 as with it in. But go figure eh...? So, on this particular CS80 this is my 4th Osc chip that has needed replacing...! My other CS80 has never had an Osc chip go... so my question is, are they any others out there who need to - quite regularly - replace a faulty Osc chip...? Or am I just really, really, unlucky...?!? I am going to attempt a full calibration on this machine sometime soon... which leads me to the old problem of sliding the cards in and out..! Catching those thin wires on the back of the print on the card to it's left... or pulling on the thin wires on the card to it's right with it's own soldered side...! So I came up with a solution which I'd like to share. It really aids in removing and also replacing the cards without any "catching" whatsoever. I had an old plastic water container lying around and I looked at it and it suddenly struck me... so I cut out the sides. It was one like this... you end up with a smooth, thin, tough plastic sheet. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/21AYN0znB9L.jpg Cut them, height wise, to just fit between the "rails" and make them deep enough so that they reach right to the back but also protrude a little past the front of the boards. After loosening the two card screws you can easily slide them in either side of the card you want to remove... and the card will just slide out in between them - with no 'catching'...! Replacing the card is just as easy - make sure both sheets are up against the cards on either side and then just part them and slide your card back in. Pull out the sheets and you're done...! Hope this makes life a little more easy for you when you're servicing. Cheers, Tom |

CS 50 due for overhaul: Any pointers?
Hi all,
?
I have finally managed to talk my tech into having a go at my CS 50 -- any things that require particular attention or that should be looked at? My 50 has the habit of occasionally producing portamento on some notes even though no portamento has been dialled in. Sometimes (very rarely) notes with a long release have a tendency to drift upwards in pitch -- I seem to remember that this is due to some caps gone bad on the KAS board, is that true? What CMOS components should be replaced as well?
?
Any inspiration is welcome. Thanks,
?

Hey Michael. Congrats on getting the CS60! ?The sub-osc problem should be pretty easy to trace if you are comfortable opening it up and can read a schematic. ?I have the service manual on my website here:? If you look at the bottom left of the giant schematic, you’ll see the sub-osc goes to the front panel controls and then to the R6 board. ?The R6 is just a bunch of resistors that mix the mod voltages and sends them to the voice cards. ?Sounds like the problem is there - probably just a broken wire. ?If it’s just voice 7 for VCO mod, then it would be the VB7 output. ?If you look at the R6 board page, you’ll see that VB7 is pad 10 on the right and has a grey wire that goes to pad 36 on the 7th voice card. ?Check that this wire is solid on both ends. ?You can check it easily with an oscilloscope or even just an amplifier if you set the sub-osc to its fastest rate. ?
