Mono Modification

While restoring this CS50 I thought, that a mono-unisono mode would be very helpful for tuning. So I am looking for a description of that modification (especially for a CS50). I've searched the groups archive for it, but did not find any details about it. I only found it mentioned as taken for known.

Are there any detailed explanations somewhere?

I tried to understand the principle of the KAS board, but I don't find any signal that resets the voice counter. I also don't find any significant difference between the KAS board of a CS50 and a CS60 (at least in this aspect).

Re: CS60 bolts?

Hello Rob

The group settings seem to forbid attachments. You may either upload the picture to the photo section or send it me. I think I can identify them, as I restored two CS60 and a CS80 already.

Re: oops, there's an error in my last message...

Actually, I sent Kent proof of that privately, because I would want to know that if someone had been
getting that much from something I had built. It is in fact, a fact that it goes for 850GBP on that site.
?
But in any event, mine gives the end user the ability to do it himself/herself. My design is slightly different as well , but the functionality is the same.
?Thanks

Hello I got hold of an CS-50 in a quite "uncared" state. As first thing, I am searching for the two pairs of long screws, which hold the panel and the keyboard. Assumingly I will have to help myself with a threaded rod, but first I want to try to them here. Thanks! Florian

oops, there's an error in my last message...

Somehow, my posting ?here calls the mod a sync mod, when in fact it is only a cascading unison mod.

Sorry if that confused anyone.

Re: BY now many of you have probably seen....

... the description addendum says it is a diy modification, I provide the finished product, you install it, with or without soldering, ....it is available either way.The mod itself... It is pictured in the video. ?The CS series keyboards are not easily moddable.... that is to say they don't provide jumpers, posts, extra connectors, or any real expansion minded spots on their designs. So it's not ever going to be an easy plug and play.... no matter what you do with the cs's, you have to make connections in some way, not just slap in a connector where there's a spot waiting for it.

That being said, I have made as easy as possible for those who don't solder to still do their own install. For the truly
unconfident they would hire a tech to install it, but it really isn't necessary

Hi Tim, I don't quite understand what the auction is for. Would I be buying an actual complete, tested board that is essentially plug and play? Sounds more like a kickstarter campaign.

I did a big overhaul of a CS-50 including:
?
Change of all CMOS.
Recap of all Caps (ceramics, mylars, Polystyrene, tantalum and aluminium electrolytics changed to Panasonic FC series)
Changed all open type trimers for closed multi turn one?s.
Total recalibration
installed Kenton MIDI kit.
?
Now it stays rock solid in tune.
?
Have a CS-60 and a 50 at home for the same work.
Noticed CS-60 has all IG chips in low cost sockets (They will be desoldered and replaced by
high quality gold plated one?s)
?
Also have done a complete socket change on a memorymoog with one voice
dropping out of the autotune routine, with new sockets for all the CMOS and Analog IC?s
the voice will not be dropped but still is quite out of tune. It did have a few other issues which
are now gone with the socket upgrade.
?
Just some ideas for your CS-50.

hi, maybe this page is of interest, some good hints for repair there.
my cs60 is still working perfect, but i?m also thinking about changing some parts. especially the (standard) ic?s on the KAS and old capacitor (on the PSU) should be changed, this also should solve your problems.
