I am helping an older friend who has had FT-920 transmitter distortion, and so we're looking for initial troubleshooting ideas from those who have experienced this trait in the past.? All suggestions will be welcome.? ?My friend, Kerry, is not on the www and not computer savvy, and so I'm the intermediary for the time being. We have no real test equipment.? My guess is, we'll end up sending the rig to someone, wherever, who can do a complete checkup, cleaning and repair.? But first, we'll see what we can come up with on our own.? Please see below.??
The owner is the original owner of the 920 in question.? His shack, unfortunately, is located in a humid and somewhat distasteful garage environment here in Florida.? Not a good place for anything electronic.? My concern is that, like some other brands of amateur equipment, the 920 has finally fallen victim to the initial stages of corrosion of the contacts, etc. Perhaps someone here has had experience in this regard.
Distortion is present in the audio during voice peaks, running barefoot.? Yes, we've examined closely the operating instructions regarding settings, et al.??
