Re: DATA-USB transmit

Gene,
Thank you four the suggestion, I have not given any attention to the tuner...this is the first suggestion thus far that included the tuner. I will be giving it a try, and will get back to you.
Kind regards,
Christopher

Re: DATA-USB transmit

Gene,
I gave the tuner in/out a try and no change. Funny thing, in the CW mode I can operate the strait-key and get the side tone, but no transmit. Nothing changes, it acts like a code practice oscillator. When I press the MOX button the ERROR message comes-up. I unkey the MOX and the message goes away. In SSB I key the mic and the ERROR? message shows up. It does not lock-up in the ERROR mode, it appears only when the mic or MOX is activated. The receiver functions perfectly, it is a hot receiver with lots of wonderful features, very frustrating. Any other suggestions? I would be shame to relegate the radio to a parts unit?
Kind regards,
Christopher

Re: DATA-USB transmit

I sure do appreciate you guys hijacking a thread I started and going back and forth.? A real stand-up move.

Re: DATA-USB transmit

Gene,
The microphone was disconnected, and nothing changed when the MOX was activated, the ERROR came on. So I guess we are out of options? The radio is extremely clean, and looks almost like a new radio. I have been informed by a number of tech's, that work on this particular radio,? the processor is the problem. I understand from YAESU, that this part is not available!? As is. the radio should be worth $300?
Kind regards,
Christopher

Filter Combination

Hello group

I am new here so please bear with me ?

I have a FT-920 from a silent key who was actually a friend of mine (KV4DP) I took the rig to? sell for his wife (also a friend), but I ended up just giving her the money and keeping the rig for myself. It has been sitting around for a couple of years, and like me, desiring to get back on the air ? I have looked into a few upgrades to do to it. Namely the Inrad roofing filter and some of the cascading SSB and CW filters with the filter boards. Here is my question.....

What would be the best combination of filters to get or put in the FT-920????? Both CW and SSB ?

Thanks in advance ?

Steve/KC8LQV

FT-920 Production Years

Morning
Question may have been asked in the past but nothing came up with a search.? What were the production years of the FT-920?? My serial number is 9Fxx.? So I believe that to be April 1999.? I say that because I don't believe the 920 was in production in 2019 and it was a later radio than those of 1989.? Am I correct?
Thank you.? Stay safe and healthy.? 73 Harrison N1FAM

Re: Filter Combination

Steve
While I do not have the answer to your question, I would like to take it farther.? If I understand the 920 manual, the YF-116A/INRAD #710 filter is required for AM transmission.? So if you put a SSB filter in the second filter position do you sacrifice the ability to transmit on AM?? Will a SSB filter work in the second position?? If you look at Menu number U-69 (CW) and U-70 (AM) they seem pretty specific.? I.E. CW and AM.? Is this indicating that there is no additional post manufacturing SSB filtering available?? Looking at the circuit diagram it lists the CW and AM filter slots.? I am far from knowledgeable on the Yaesu filter schemes.? I know my FT-1000 Mk V has five filter slots.? I believe the FTdx-3000 only has one slot for a CW filter.? I only say this, because I've always been a bit confused on Yaesu's filter options.? I'd love to hear from anyone on the subject.
Take care.? 73 Harrison N1FAM

WSJT-X with the Yaesu 920

Basic Issue; I am using the Yaesu FT-920 with a 9DB to USB cable to control my rig via Ham Radio Deluxe software.? All is well.? The various elements work well so I am comfortable that the cable I am using between the radio and the computer works.? My problem is setting up the 920 with the WSJT-X program.? I believe I have the radio set up correctly, the WSJT-X program correct.? But when I key the transceiver for FT-4 or 8 through WSJT-X I have the transmit lite on the radio but no indication of power out.? The steady tone that sounds during transmission is emanating from my laptop speaker.? I am at a loss regarding what I don't have set correctly.? Can anyone put me back on track.? I would really appreciate it.
Thanks 73 Harrison

Signalink mating with the FT-920

I want to use the Signalink external sound card unit with my 920 for digital work.? I want to interface through the 5 pin din connector on the back of the radio.? The Signalink cable to pair the unit with the FT-920 data port is the SLCAB5PD.? I have all the necessary parts to make a cable if I can get a good pin out,? Does anyone have a pin out for this cable or the cable that they can read out for me.? Finally if anyone has the cable and is ready to part with it I am interested.
Thank you.? 73 Harrison N1FAM

Re: Signalink mating with the FT-920

Thank you everyone for all the dialog and support to my queries and posts.? The Signalink is in hand and I clearly over thought this project.? The pin out of the signalink RJ-45 connector s obvious with the circuit board in front of you.? While I haven't put the unit to use yet I have fabricated a cable and see no reason why it won't work.? Thanks again, Take care.

Yaesu Radio Needs Repair

My FTdx-3000 has the blinking transmit light issue.? I have factory reset the radio several times, left it unplugged for days, disconnected everything to insure some external source was not keying the radio, etc .? Nothing seemed to restore it and clear the blinking transmit light.? I am ready to throw in the towel and send it off to repair.? I am located in New England (Connecticut).? Are my only options Spring Hill, FL or Cypress, CA?? Shipping is a bear.? I would really like to find a location closer to me and better yet one I could drive to and drop the unit off for repair.? Any suggestions?

13,5 V RCA rear connection fuse

I was going to use the 13.5V output (J2001) from the back of the 920 to power an Ameritron ARB-704 amplifier/radio interface.? I have no power at jack J2001.? The Op manual says the connection is fused.? Looking at the schamatic the fuse is identified more like a switch symbol than a fuse symbol as Q2037 ICP-F10.
With the bottom cover off I see no obvious fuse.? Where is the fuse for the J2001 13.5V jack?? I hope and figure Yaesu was smart enough not to bury the fuse deep in the build.
Can anyone point me to the fuse?? Thank you
73 Harrison N1FAM

Re: 13,5 V RCA rear connection fuse

Well the hunt is over.? After numerous returns to scour the board for Q2037 I found it.? It is located right in front of the rear key jack and the Pdl-Key switch.? Looks like it is a through board item but the Main board would have to be removed to replace it.? Might be a good time, for now, to use a wall wart to power the ARB-704 and save replacement of Q2037 to a time when and if the main board needs to come out.
Has anyone ever replaced Q2037 and am I correct that it is a through board soldered item and that the main board has to come out.? I did try to gently pull on it with tweezers but it was obvious that it was not some simple push in item. .

Splitting Ext output Speaker btw Speaker and Headphones

Hi

I am trying to use the external output for speaker (rear) to pass the output signal through an AUTEK QF-1 Audio Filter and then split the output signal either to an external speaker or a headphones.

The signal is fine for external speaker but not the headphones, reading over there I found that I should use like an attenuator for the headphones (my HS-5 Kenwood 8 ohms), a voltage divider, is that correct? but if both have the same impedance how to keep both and reduce the voltage for headphones? a bit confused, sorry

Thanks

SDR panadpter and receive antenna

Robbie Megaw

Hi all, im wanting to know if it's possible to use my ham antenna as a sdr receive antenna and also if i can connect the same antenna to my yaesu frg7

Am i right in thinking that there is no antenna output on the back of the FT920 only receive in?

I know that i can get a addon board the iface2 that taps the if output from the 920 to feed a sdr which is fine, but is there a way to feed the frg7 safely without damaging it while transmitting?

Thanks
Robbie

Issue with Shuttle Jog

Hello to All,

HNY to everyone.

Please I have an issues with my Yaesu FT-920.

If I try to decrease the VFO using the Shuttle Jog ( I mean the inner VFO knob ), the frequency instead to

Decrease it increase. I notice if I push the JOG to the left quickly to the end so the issue appears,

Viceversa if I just push just a little to the left it decrease correctly and then I can continue to push the

JOG till the end it will still work correctly.

Honestly I do not know if it is a correct behaviour or it is an issue.

Please if it is an issue how to solve it?

Thanks for any help that will be really appreciated.

If you turn it all the way either way it will tune rapidly if you turn it slightly it will tune slower hope this helps this is what mine does anyway?
