Displaying NWS messages and lightning strikes
These types of messages only come from the APRS-IS backbone, and are not sent normally but only when explicitly added by filtering the APRS-IS data stream.
You can obtain them by either: 1. identifying the US NWS field office covering your area and using a buddy filter for their office prefix. For example, my area is covered by the Mount Holly, New Jersey, office (also called PHL for Philadelphia), so I would specify b/PHL* 2. using a geographical range filter ( r/ or m/ ) or area filter ( a/ ) around your location, which would cause _all_ traffic in the specified region to to be forwarded to your station, including NWS weather events inside that region. Note that if you want to see the NWS multiline outlines of storm areas, you will need to enable showing multilines on the map with the View->Layers->Show NWS Multilines choice. If you wish to see NWS severe weather zones, you will need to download the weather zone boundary files from the NWS website and put them in your configured map tile directory. This is documented in YAAC's built-in help. Hope this helps. I was able to do it in APRSIS but I can't figure it out with YAAC. |
