Beginner needs guidance
I'm really enjoying YAAC, I'm running an SDRPlayDx with SRDUno to Direwolf to YAAC on a Windows10 system.? I've read through the instructions but I'm missing something in understanding how to run plugins.? I've downloaded the demo and in the configuration listed what directory it is in but when I click on the plugin demo.jar nothing happens.? I do have the latest version of both YAAC and Java.? What am I missing?
Also, since I don't travel much and am using a laptop, would there be any advantage or extra features connecting the laptop to a GPS? I'm sure I'll have more questions but so far over all using YAAC has gone very smoothly. Regards, Steve |
You don't run YAAC plugins as separate programs. They are extensions to YAAC itself, basically additional libraries that are runtime-linked into YAAC to add extra functionality to the core distribution of YAAC. As some of these extra functionalities add more computer overhead to YAAC, the intent was that you would only add to your YAAC installation the plugins you actually need, rather than jamming them all into the core distribution and creating bloatware.
The Help menu's Install Plugins choice allows you to see what plugins are available, and properly install them into YAAC. Basically, the plugins are Java JAR files that are placed into the plugins subdirectory of your YAAC installation, and are linked in when YAAC starts up. However, some plugins require additional 3rd party libraries which also need to be installed correctly, and the Install Plugins menu choice handles those operations on a per-plugin basis. Plugins that are distributed as .zip files instead of .jar files are those more complex plugins, where the .zip file contains the .jar file of the plugin plus whatever extras that plugin .jar file needs. YAAC can take advantage of a connected GPS to update your beacon position dynamically (useful for a mobile station). It also makes the repeaterfinder plugin's functionality more powerful by preferring repeaters that are ahead of you on your current course of travel versus repeaters you have already passed by.
