Xpander won't receive patches/banks by SysEx

Hi folks,

When my Xpander receives a patch by SysEx, the sub-page Midi Enb flicks to the main Midi screen, indicating something must have happened, yet the patch is unsent. This goes for patches sent to position 99, and banks.

Memory Protect is set to Off.

I'm concerned the ROM has somehow been damaged.

Does anyone know which Midi Enb switches need to be on to send patches?

Also, I can send banks to the PC from the patch send page (Midi Snd - All) with no problems.

Thanks,

Jeremy

I dont think you need to enable sysex to send, but top receive.
I may be wrong.
Either way, enable the Sysex function on the Midi page, for the
Xpander to receive patches.

Hi Jeremy,
?
This may be a dumb question, but did you type "99" on your xpander to recall patch 99 after you received it into your xpander?? I think you have to do that to hear a newly uploaded patch via sysex, otherwise you'll just hear the original patch 99 not the new one.
?

The sysex header for sending a patch to the xpander contains one byte
which indicates the patch number.

However, There is an independant edit buffer which allows you to edit
a patch remotely (and locally to, I think) without affecting any of
the patches
already stored in locations 1-100

This edit buffer allows you to tweak patches, and compare the edit to
the original, when you are inMulti Mode
Oberheim thought of everything and they sure had some great software
engineers who could squeeze out ever bit of capability out of a
1.89Mhz 6809!
(although, I do wish the envelopes were generated in hardware instead
of software)

Well, I figured it out.

MidiOx doesn't work.

SyxLibEd is a bit complex, but worked!

For anyone wishing to transfer banks to the Xpander and back, SyxLibEd works well on Windows.

It's split into 2 areas, above and below. Click on Tools (below) and you get 'Open From File'. Click that and select a .SYX bank or patch file from disk.

Select the MIDI device that is connected to the Xpander's Midi Out, then click the button with '|' on it. It goes to '->' as it transfers the bank.

When finished, it should flip back to '|'.

Now on the Xpander, change patch down and up 1 to get the new named patches.

Jeremy.

Sorry, that's Tools (above)

MidiOx doesn't work.
I use Midiox to send/receive patches to/from my Xpander & OB8 quite
often. It works just fine.
You need to Enable Receive Midi and ENable Sysex independantly.
These can be done from the menu, or form the lower right corner of the
the status bar (at the bottom of the screen)

Hi,

Thanks for the info, I'll have to try harder with Midiox.

Also, now I've got these patch banks installed, I finally hear what this synth is capable of! Also dispelling any worries that it's not in good condition.

All the best,

Jeremy.

Yep !
Most of the factory programs have to be edited to your taste and to be reprogrammed for usage w/ midi-controllers.
This is a machine for sound designers,- program it yourself and you?ll hear how it can sound.
I?ve seen pro-musicians, selling their Xpander after 2 or 3 years because they never learned to program this machine, just used the presets, did minor tweaks and were tired w/ the sounds that way.

Self programming is the secret w/ the Xpander.

OT:

Is there some progress w/ the display-thread ?

Phil: You fixed your encoders w/ a Servisol Super10 Switch Claening Lubricant. Does it work anymore after some weeks now?
