Re: loading patches via sysex - Heeellllppppp!

I did, of course ;-)
But wanted to hear how the default patches sound. I will certainly also try patches here, and am happy to share my stored patches - as an audio file...

I have the manual and think I followed the instructions, but Sysex Librarian on the latest OS X did something, but my Matrix 12 could not receive it somehow.

Re: loading patches via sysex - Heeellllppppp!

It's a shame you didn't save the patches before overwriting them. It would be nice t hear something new and refreshing.

Bought a great Matrix12. Couldn't be happier. However: previous owner messed up patches - so I want to reload original factory patches (single.multi). Have read everything about this...but simply can't get it done. I am using sysex libririan and a ESI M4U midi interface. Would be really greatful for you help! Txxx Jose

Do you have a manual ?

At least you have to enable MIDI sysex in the MIDI page ...

MASTER > MIDI > Enables > SYSTEMX

Manual page 49/50

receiving and transmitting device should be set to the same MIDI channel !

If it's of any help, I just recently restored the factory patches:

I also couldn't get it to work using MIDI, luckily it worked without any problem using the "audio interface": use some player on your computer to play the audio-file containing the whole patch-information, tell your Matrix 12 to import from audio, and then press play in your player.

Re: Getting random patches in Xplorer keyboard tracked

Hi,

I'm the author of Xplorer. It's being a while I was'nt there. You should have a look at the default patch (File/New or Ctrl-N), which gives you the very basics of controlling the sound with the keyboard (BTW, this is the default "Oberheim" single patch of the Xpander Manual - no rocket science here).

It can even be simplified at the bare minimum:
- set VCO2 volume to 0 (so it is not used).
- remove LEV1 and VIB from VCO1 and VCF.
- remove ENV1 modulation in the modulation matrix (set it to none).

this gives you the minimal setting needed:
-? ENV2 has only the SUSTAIN and VCA to full value, this means it acts more or less as a "gate" if it is used as a modulation source. Setting ENV2 to modulation VCA2, it will open/close the sound out of the VCF.
- The "Keyb" modulation of the VCO1 is keeped checked to have a VCO frequency following the keyboard. If you uncheck it you will have the same frequency whatever the key pressed (put VCO1 default freq to max to ear something.

No more no less.

Cheers,

Hi Jeremy,

Long time:-). I don't have Xplorer, the link seems dead. I was wondering does it randomize the matrix mods also? If so, you may need to
go through the matrix mods, and clear any modulations to the VCOs.
Yup, that's what I'd have to do, and it's kind of beyond me. :-(

At the moment without any documentation for Xplorer that's all I can think of.
Well thanks for helping.

and What PeWe posted, check that out also.
I tried PeWe's suggestion (see other post).

The only way to get this to work, was if the author of Xplorer could make it so it tracked random patches.

Never mind though.

Cheers,

Jeremy.

But Page 2 of OSC1 and OSC2 offer controll sources for precise pitch control:

a) MOD = KEYBD
b) MOD = LAG

press the related switches,- p.ex.:

the switch below [KEYBD] will "underline" (activate) KEYBD as the control source,- or ...
the switch below [LAG] will "underline" (activate) LAG as the control source which is usefull when PORTAMENTO (Glide) is desired.
I tried adjusting the keyboard sources. Although they weren't set on the 'normal' patches, setting them on a random patch had no effect. It wouldn't track pitch to the keyboard.

Thanks for the help though!

Jeremy.

Hi folks,

I bought Xplorer a while back. It has the ability to make a random patch.

The problem is, the patch can't be played on the keyboard because that
aspect is randomised too.

What patch settings do I need on the Xpander to make a random patch
keyboard tracked? So that it plays the notes you play, but the rest of
the random patch.

The guy said read the manual, but I still can't figure it out!

All the best,

Jeremy.

Re: Getting random patches in Xplorer keyboard tracked

On the second page of each VCO menu, in the top row, you can select which inputs control VCO pitch. Push the buttons so that only 'keyboard' is underlined.

Re: Faster envelopes on Matrix 12/Xpander - Conversation with one of the designers

I sent Aake a message on Facebook. We'll see if he ended up doing the mod.

Re: Faster envelopes on Matrix 12/Xpander - Conversation with one of the designers

This was discussed on the forum some time ago. If I remember right, it was a hardware mod to the sample and hold circuits of the multiplexer. And was completely
in theory. I do not know of anyone who?tried this mod. A search through the archives may yield the original thread.

Best

The Matrix-12 owned by the Swedish band named Ace of Base in the past was brought by me to Finland in Oct 6, 2007 from G?teborg, where it had been used and serviced in a music studio called Ljudlabbet, the owner of which was Daniel Saxlid. He was selling the M12 because of moving to Los Angeles. He also told me that it should be possible to speed up the envelopes, as described above.

You may find Daniel at?https://www.linkedin.com/in/daniel-saxlid-746a93a/.

The same M12 was later (i.e., in 11.5.2015) acquired by Aake Otsala at .

I think that Aake might have been in contact with e.g. Daniel regarding to the modifications etc.

Re: Xpander/M12 autotuning/tuning table query

This isn't really a general case of vintage analog "stability". Hoping someone with knowledge of the autotune process might be able to chime in.

Re: Xpander/M12 autotuning/tuning table query

The reason is different heat coefficients for different calibre of 10 % accurate parts from 40 years ago.
It's awesome. ?I will hit the tune button on my MKS80 all day. ?i never turn off my Arp 2600 ITS IN TUNE!

hi all,

wondering if anyone can explain the autoning process and the storage of tuning tables to me (the service manual is pretty helpful, but this pertains to the issue below).

Basically, after having not had to tune my M12 for months, I suddenly found a few voices slightly out of tune yesterday. I attributed this to recent weather and autotuning cured it. But then I hit "untune" (just to see how "out" everything really was) and had to go through the whole tuning process again. (the only recent "change" was that I rotated out some 3372s under the hood, but the 3374s were untouched.)

Jump forward to today, turning on this morning, I found a couple of voices were beating more than the others. After it had warmed up for a while, I began hitting autotune until all voices were yielding pretty much no significant beating. That tuning has now been fine for the rest of the day.

So getting back to my initial question: does it make sense for the autotune tuning tables to improve their accuracy with increased time (and also after full warmup)? Obviously there's no "background" tuning, but the voices seem to have improved stability overall through the day. Given that my need to tune yesterday was a bit of a surprise, I'm just wondering if there's some creeping issue I should be aware of, or if this sounds normal.

I should add that this was recapped fairly recently, so I don't suspect anything there.

FS: CEM 3372 (x 7)

Hi all,

I'm selling 7 x 3372s. These are all rev. Bs with the same date code. All are tested and I'm almost certain they are NOS (I had been holding onto these as backups). Asking $210 shipped ConUS. Please reply here with your email or send me an email at mv_list AT hotmail dot com if interested.

thanks!
